Need Suggestions for Husbands Present

RachelK

Recommended Posts

My husband plays golf and I want to make a present for him. Can you recommend something like this equipment? I want something new for him. I read a lot of reviews  but I don't understand anything in equipment.

Rachel buying equipment for a golfer is really difficult unless you know exactly what he wants. I recommend you manipulate him into a conversation about golf and golf equipment. Maybe ask him to explain what each of his clubs are used for and during the conversation simply ask him if he has everything he needs or wants. If he says something like, “I really want a new putter?” Then ask he why. He will ultimately tell you the type and model.

FYI- a lessons package is also a good gift

A significant portion of my golf stuff was purchased by the wife as a birthday, anniversary or Christmas present.  My wife loves to purchase my golf stuff because she knows I love golf stuff; it makes things easy for her.  (In my case, its jewelry or some little figures called Hummels.)   Fortunately, there is a locally owned and operated golf shop where I know the owners and staff and they know me, so when the wife goes there, they watch out for me.   Does your husband have a favorite source for equipment where the proprietors maybe able to help you.   If your husband says that he is going to the golf shop, perhaps, just tag along with him.   If all else fails, there is always the golf shop gift certificate.

Where does your husband play golf or would wish to play.   Perhaps, purchase some golf rounds, many courses actually sell "player cards" at discounted fees.

A purchase that my wife made years ago was a "Zero Restriction" rain suit and it has come in handy multiple times.  Does your husband have rain wear?

However, be careful.  Years ago, a friend of mine told his wife he wanted a 3 wood.   His wife goes to the golf shop, asks to purchase a 3 wood and my bud shows up at the course with a "Patty Berg" 3 wood.

Just let me say, that if your husband is a genuine golf addict, what ever you do he will appreciate even if it is not perfect.  He will appreciate your support.

Golf balls are always a good gift.  We do tend to go through them.

Find out what ball he plays and get some custom balls for him.  You can put his initials on the ball, or get special numbers like his age or the year you were married.  He may like a certain ball but not play it because they are too expensive for him to buy on his own.  A little detective work may be needed.

So do millions of guys...

Does your H play weekly? Once week? Twice week? More? Occasionally? A few times a year?  Is he a low or high handicapper?

If you don't know much about his game and abilities I'd get a gift certificate to a golf or Pro shop. And depending on the above; that might determine how much you want to spend. Also, a gift certificate eliminates the possibility of disappointment.

First of well welcome!

What’s your budget would be a good question as well. I think I’d avoid equipment per se but a fitting for a piece of equipment - driver, irons - that would be a nice touch.

Round with his buddies to a nice course. maybe a gift certificate for a club fitting putter driver irons wedges. Or even just a couple lessons. Tickets to a pga event in the future. I would stay clear from something specific. For example don’t just get him a driver or putter

Balls are always a good option.  But make sure you know what brand he plays.  And golf shorts, pants, or shorts are good choices too.  Just no t-shirts.  We can’t play in them because most courses have dress codes.

Listen to me, please: find out WHERE he buys his golf equipment, and get him a gift certificate!!!
You buy him a driver, it’s not the head he wants... You buy him a wedge, not the loft he wants... You buy him a carry bag, he wants a cart bag.
Please, get him a gift certificate!!!!

So true!
Ever since I got into golf my wife has taken advantage of it and has gotten me something golf related for every kind of occasion.
She is pretty aware of what I prefer, what I have been looking at and where to find it. She is aware of how picky (as many of us are) I can be and knows when to get something specific (clubs, balls, equipment) vs stuff like clothing.
However, when it comes to other family members they have learned a gift card is the way to go. They say they would rather get me sometime I can open up and use right away which I understand. Wasn’t an issue this last Christmas since my parents got me a gift card for lessons and my sister got me a gift card to GG which I was very happy with.
