Some reference photos on the TE V4 and the PTM Blacks.
It will be a while before I can test them, but good God are they gorgeous in their simplicity.
A very sexy topline that is truly minimal. It's compact compared to the PTM. It should be a bit more demanding.
The DBM finsh will make it play firmer in feel vs the pearl chrome.
I'll probably use the GW and PW as PTM replacements. As both the PTM GW and PW look huge to the eye.
I wish more of the Maltby line had a DBM finish option. Because once you bag them, you get hooked. The way they hold up and grooves stay sharp is hard to overlook. Never mind how amazing they look even a few seasons in. 8bb4ba4cbd61ca57f7c82bc053b1f864.jpg1bf4c9c51d5555cac9267e3ed4ce51ef.jpg0b51e98c7c999f13c97292b0737d768c.jpg4ef480b6ecd1d865115ab6f6f00822b7.jpg9141710f3e617d33f2f2516894382217.jpg50acc343e28d40686c5770fb088f855f.jpg47082eda02d13ef89560d1ef402bf02b.jpgcba218b8044684f86c8ef3bfc4992f5d.jpg76c9d2d1ea7c6f18e0abc96c2dcee176.jpg1d71126cfd30df6fcf5925315bdda9ac.jpg

The TE+ is definitely a great looking club! Thanks to @vandyland for taking the time to gather and publish his data on these clubs.

I have a set of PTMs shafted with KBS steel shafts which are pretty much unused and which I was considering having re-shafted in graphite (all I have played for the past few years) but put those plans on hold when I saw that the TE+ was coming out. For me, as a high capper, the fact that the MPF for the TE+ is 838, versus 799 for the PTM, is also a great selling point.

  • 2 weeks later...

The testing and trying out rolls on. I swapped my TE+ V4 DBM head with a golfwrx'er for a TS3 head that I just got in last night. Hopefully will get it shafted this week and see how it goes. It has a little more thickness to it which I like (confidence inspiring and closer to my current setup). Looks really nice in person.

Yeah, I still have my 6/9 iron builds in the garage and take them out to the range every so often - they're just AWESOME clubs.  I'll eventually put them into the right shaft for me, since that's my only real issue with them right now.  But man they're a great club.  Cool to see the comparison to the PTX Pro, which I would have thought would be considerably smaller all around, but it really isn't.  Thanks for the pics!

@BobBC78 I got it shafted up but have only hit it off a mat into a net. I must say that I think I prefer this type of feel to the single forged cavity of the TE+. Anything that is not dead center feels better with a little help. Hopefully will get it on a launch monitor in the next week.

@vandyland the club looks really nice...I have to say, it looks better in your pictures than on the website.

I'm a 67-year-old 20 capper with a slow swing, currently playing Ping G710s which I was fitted for in 2020. While I have liked these irons, two issues are (i) the face is hot which I feel adds to my problems with consistency on short game shots and (ii) I frequently get fliers (sometimes even off the fairway) as an example hitting a 140-yard 8i out of light rough when my normal is about 110.  The TS3s have a MPF of 849 which is 100 points higher than the Pings, so I feel that they might be something suitable for my game.  Although our games are clearly really different, I'm looking forward to seeing how the TS3s compare to your Hogans as a data point towards ultimately ordering a 7i to my specs to test.

The Hogans, to me, aren't middle of the road and probably in the player's distance category. They have a hollow head with tungsten in the 5-7 irons. Unfortunately there is not MPF data on them so I don't know where the VCOG is but I would suspect it is fairly low (though the PTxPros supposedly have a "progressive VCOG" that gets higher as the irons get shorter). Technically speaking so do the TS3s but I don't know where the PTxPros "started" on the VCOG. Whatever, I digress. Essentially I think the PTxPros are fairly easy to hit, they are slightly smaller but still have offset...etc. The feel between the TS3s and the PTxPros, so far, is similar. The TE+ V4 felt closer to a blade which I would assume is a combination of the single forging, no tungsten and overall thinner/less mass. Will be curious what the ball flight looks like but also my swing is a mess so who knows. Just have to hit both irons on the same day so at least it is an apples to apples comparison.

The advantage with swinging poorly is I can gauge "forgiveness" haha.

Hit the TS3s and the Hogans side by side today off grass on the range.

Right away these are better (for me) than the TE+ V4. I am currently messing with my swing so I had a lot of “forgiveness” testing and these felt better on toe and thin strikes. Also, and I want to be sane here, the TS3s felt better on center strikes as well. I found I just was looking forward to hitting it, in a way I wasn’t with the TE+. Haven’t gotten real numbers on them but I am going to put this in my bag and take it on the course next round I play. It feels that good. I never got comfortable enough with the TE+ to put them in the bag but this club. I could game this now.

Again, I should temper myself a little but I was switching every 3 shots and these felt better and seemingly were coming out of the same window. Very pleased.

I switched out my Miura CB-57s 5-8 today for my TS3s, paired with my TS4s and TS1.   All I can say is I shot my PB and the TS3 felt so soft and pure when hit solid.  Simply amazing.  I love these clubs and they are not coming out of my bag unless I pick some vintage blades just for fun.

Simply fantastic clubs.

Working at getting better ... and very slowly getting there.

Seeing this thread, I'm curious if anyone has played the STf2 OR KE4 Fairway woods? I'm trying to get a fairway back into my rotation and I can't play my Srixon Z F85. Strangely enough, as a 6'3" guy, I play shorter clubs quite a bit better and this doesn't fit my swing anymore. Any advice or reviews of the fairways from Maltby would be greatly appreciated!

I have now had several range sessions and one round with the TS3 (7 iron) and in each one of them I have been swinging poorly but I favor the feel and results of the TS3 over my Hogans. Still no launch monitor data but they pass the eye test and I prefer them to the TE+ V4. Now, does this mean I need to go build a set....well....Christmas is around the corner....

I think I could do the standard pak with either score LTs or FST 125s (very close in cut weight since the score raw length is 2 inches shorter) and add some BB&F ferrules to spice it up. With S&T the 5-GW would right at $500 and with the ferrules added it would be about $540.

I've been playing a KE4 Tour TC 4w since last season and I love it.  I had a Callaway XR16 fairway I loved, but the face flattened and there was a crack and I couldn't find anything that worked as well until the KE4....it doesn't have the mojo of the XR16, but it works much better than anything else I tried.  It looks and feels good, I can hit it off the deck or tee, forgiving, long and you can easily adjust the weight.  I did briefly try and STf2 5w, but thought it was just ok.

I have the KE4 4wood as well. Has matches the distance of previous 3wood and has been a solid addition to the bag. Played  around with the weights a little and found 2 extra grams help get me the best feel.

New member here......This is one of the first threads I've gravitated to, and I've read the whole thing over the last few days.....a fascinating read!    I've been a Maltby guy over many years, and living in Ohio, I've been lucky enough to take his basic fitting and assembly class and visited the outlet store MANY times (my daughter lives only 30 minutes from Newark!).

I fell into a set of PTM irons in pearl chrome this summer, and they are SO good that I sold the Ping G425's I had been playing and have decided that I'm a Maltby guy for life now (relax.....I'm 78 now).   As I've said, I've been really interested in this thread, and have decided that my next set will be either the TE+ or the TS3's.    As many posters have said, these two clubs look MUCH better in actual photographs than in the catalog!  I'll just have to get to Newark asap to see which one looks and performs better in person and go from there.....

Hey @Fatshot! I too am in Ohio - about 40 minutes from Maltby (Sunbury area). I had played Maltby for years (Ben Hogan prior) and recently trying the new-ish Takomo 101Ts (really liking them so far). I still have a set of TS1s that I played until a month ago when I got the Takomo irons. Glad you are here! Let me know your thoughts on the TE+ irons and TS3s. I was looking pretty hard at the TE+ prior to the Takomo order. The TE+s  were considerably more expensive however.

Cheers ⛳

As I've said, I've been really interested in this thread, and have decided that my next set will be either the TE+ or the TS3's.    As many posters have said, these two clubs look MUCH better in actual photographs than in the catalog!  I'll just have to get to Newark asap to see which one looks and performs better in person and go from there.....

I did this comparison and found them both good but the TS-3s for me were better. In fact, I think they are better than my current irons as well so I am trying to set a somewhat arbitrary golf goal to "earn" the TS-3s rather than just impulse buy them. Something like "a round with no 3 putts" (without missing greens on purpose) or going 100% on sand saves in a round (minimum sand shots = 2). Something that has nothing to do with iron play.

But yes, I already have them spec'd out in my head as 5-GW with FST 125 shafts (hoping I can get the pak price on those since they are the same price as Score LT shafts) trimmed to stiff with some BB&F shorties. NOT THAT I AM THINKING ABOUT IT EVERYDAY OR ANYTHING.

I did something similar a few years back to “earn” the TS1s I’m playing.  My target was to shoot 36 on 9 holes.  It took a while for the stars to align.  I shot 36-48 one Saturday and the very next Saturday shot 45-36 on the same course.  I went from Ping Gmax irons to the TS1s and I think the smaller head helped me believe it or not.

TSi2 Driver, Titleist TSi2 4 Wood, Ping G410 3 Hybrid, Ping G400 4 Hybrid, Maltby TS1 5-GW, Maltby Max Milled 54, Maltby Max Milled 58, Piretti Forza.

Some folks say golf messes up a nice walk.  That’s not true, golf makes a nice walk bearable.

I believe it! In the depths of a golf slump I bought some very large game improvement irons. They did not help me at all same misses and ball flight. Once I finally straightened myself out my gamers were doing more of what I wanted than the game improvement irons. I would play all hybrids if it helped my game but I finally learned that clubs have to "fit your eye" as well as turf interaction and ball flight and all that.

Hey all. So I been tinkering again... I have been playing a set of the TS1s w KBS tour 90s s, the Ke4 Max w Nippon 840 s, and the TS3 9 & PW. Ive been doing mixed sets and Ive decided that my favorite are the TS3 for their amazing feel and soft metal.

Id like to get the 5,6,7,8 of the TS3 and maybe trade or sell outright my TS1s

These are my TS-1s. 6-gw with emblem paint removed. KBS Tour 90s in stiff flex. Currently Iomic grips installed (can give other grip options). Theyre great irons as you all know here. All clubs show light use as are less than 3 months old.

I figured ID come here before ebay to see if theres anyone who has some TS3s and would like to trade, or purchase them on a discount for enough to fund the rest of my TS3 set. If interested, let me know or if want more pics of whatever, message me.. If interested I can also add Maltby Max 52/58 wedges into the whole set. Light use, DG wedge shafts. BBF ferrules

Hey y'all!

I have some exciting news. Hopefully I'm not letting the cat out of the bag too prematurely.. but here goes.

I've recently been communicating with a YouTube golf personality. As we all know, Maltby does not participate in any YouTube send-outs for review. It's just not something they're interested in. As far as the DTC surface world is concerned, there are 5 or so brands that remain in circulation and are unfortunately more recognized than the godfather of DTC which really is Maltby.

I've offered to send him a set of KE4 MAX irons to showcase on his channel and he's accepted and is very excited to get his hands on some Maltby gear. He'll be reviewing and sending them back once finished. I'm hoping that he'll be impressed enough, and that the reactions are positive and plentiful enough to then purchase a full set and continue the series with one of the forged offerings.

I'm sending out the set tomorrow. It'll take a few days to get to FL where he lives and then hopefully in the next few weeks, we'll finally be seeing a full review of the clubs.

As I receive more info I'll be sure to share what I can.

Stay tuned!

I'll say this.. if you follow most of the bigger names in reviews, you won't have a problem finding it when it comes out😁. I'll definitely post it in here though when it's available
