How many brands are in your bag?

I was just updating my signature and realize that I'm up to 7 different brands in my bag.

This wasn't intentional and just happened. I don't really have much allegiance and don't fault those of you who do; I *wholeheartedly* believe in the play-your-game-whatever-works-for-you concept.

This is my <current LOL!> breakdown:
TourEdge (driver)
Cobra (3W)
Callaway (SuperHybrid)
Titleist (hybrid)
Srixon (irons)
Cleveland (wedges)
Bettinardi (putter)

There is no right or wrong answer to this question, but out of curiosity, how many brands have you used or are using at one time?

I read, I believe on MGS, a long time ago the philosophy I've always ascribed too when I've played my best.  No one brand has all the right answers for anyones game.  I've currently got 4 brands represented but that can fluctuate in all honesty because I do switch out clubs frequently.  There was a time recently from top to bottom I went with Callaway clubs.  Woods, irons, wedges and odd putter.  That was a forced set make up and honestly it hurt my game overall.  

In the end, clubs are tools.  You gotta have the right tool to be able to score your best.  That's what I've gone back too and my scores are reflective of that now as well.

of course, I didn't bring into play the range finder, bag, umbrella, etc..  That would probably up my number by a few if I do.

I've tried a bunch of different brands over the years, and most likely will try even more in the future - especially with the rise of more DTC names like Sub70.

I’m an unapologetic Titleist ho, but after being fit for a driver and putter, more brands have made their way into my bag. Currently:

Ping(driver)
Taylormade(putter)

My 3 wood(917f2), irons(AP3) and wedges(vokey) are all still Titleist.

My new 3 wood will be a Ping, and I did try some TM and ping wedges at my fitting, but ended up staying with Titleist, in the form of some black SM8.

If I put the "regular" driver back in, then the total goes to 6 since that's a Wilson/Staff D7.

I love titleist and could game a full bag, but at the end of the day I like a hi toe wedge for my lob wedge and really like my 2 hybrid/3iron non titleist combo. I try to play what best suits me. And ball I okay Srixon so I guess one more brand.

When I first started I only played Taylormade bc I just thought it was a top end brand and I need to all the same brand .. My buddy who is a scratch golfer only plays titleist still ... but after actually learning more about golf and the industry with the help of MGS, I made it a focus to try other brands and it worked out .. I love the Ping G400 driver and my cobra 5 wood and when I played one lengths.

getting back on the course this week.  I'm rocking 5 different brands of clubs Ping driver, Callaway and Nike are fighting for the 3 wood slot, Nike hybrid, Wilson irons, Ping wedges, and Evnroll holding down the putter slot.

Pretty much been all PING for the past 35 years but that may very well change after next week.  To be honest, the PE2's were just the hot club at the time and the G410's did yield the best results from my first ever LM fitting. But now, having been on MGS for a couple of years, I am woke to other possibilities - so we shall see .

Assuming we're only talking clubs and not balls, gloves, tees, mini speaker, etc, I'm rockin 6.. but that's including 2 of the same club (in AZ it's a good idea to have a bruiser rescue club for getting out of the desert or just bad lies on hard ground).. and a sub-brand putter so 5 1/2?

My driver is a Ping, my 3 wood is a Cobra. I have a Sub70 2 iron.  My hybrids are Callaway.  I have 2 sets of irons (Sub70 & Callaway Rogues). My wedges are Cleveland RTX-4s.  I have 3 putters.. (Scotty Cameron, Bettinardi, and a Cleveland)

On any given day the make-up of the bag could be different.

Over the last 20 years my bag has evolved, I do tend to buy clubs it groups

1. Woods and Hybrids are usually the same brand and model
   1. Current set are Callaway Epic but moving to Mavrik
2. Irons used to be 3i - PW but now 5i to AW are all the same
   1. Current model is Srixon Z565
3. Wedges usually 3 => 52', 56' and 60' and are all customised to the same length as my PW
   1. Current model are Cleveland RTX 3.0
4. Putter, changes when I lose confidence I currently have 4 (after a clear out)
   1. Current model is Ping Heppler Floki

 

My history is pretty similar

1. 2005 King Cobra Woods and Wedges and Mizuno irons
2. 2010 Taylor Made woods and Irons, Titleist wedges
3. 2015 Titleist everything except putter

Three for me, I’m a traditionalist. One brand of woods, one brand of irons (and hybrid) and one brand of putter. A different brand of wedges (vs 3 thru PW) wouldn’t bother me, which would take me to four brands. Otherwise mixing iron brands or mixing wood brands isn’t something I’d choose, but just my preference. My clubs are better than I am, always have been, more brands won’t help me score better. Even if most are paid to do it, most pros manage to win with just a few brands, and usually even change brands without problems when the endorsement money dictates.

Until something beats it, or breaks it will stay that way. I’m intrigued by the PING g425 woods/hybrids because I’m always intrigued by PING. Otherwise I’ll pay attention to my Arccos stats and see where I’m losing the most strokes and see if it’s something I can address via equipment adjustment or change.

Bonus: I’ve expended a brand Via ball. Previously I always used a Pro V1x. Next season I’ll be using a Bridgestone or Snell. Both perform as good for me, hopefully I’ll get a little more testing in before it becomes time to buy.

In spirit now I’d be a 5. After a few fittings I see no issues with mixing them up purely based on feel and performance. Custom headcovers solve the whole bag matching issue and as long as the lofts are right and gapping is good I don’t care if I end up with a 5-iron and Hybrid that are the same “loft”. I’ve had this before but the yardage gap was right.

I am a loyalist who is lost.  But... it is going to take me a  while to get there for a full one brand bag.  Eventually everything will be Titleist... or maybe by the time I decide that I will move back to Taylormade... or pull a Brooksy.... who knows.  Fairly indecisive I’d say.  Put me in the “who knows” category.
