IMHO the handicap system is ok IF it is used properly with some honesty and ethics involved. But then again I am a rookie on the handicap system.

We do have some "rules Nazis" in our league. One said something to me because he saw me playing one day and I did not post a score. The reason being I was playing a persimmon round which can be 5 to 7 shots more depending on where I play from. Sometimes I play our Par3s from the tips and make them Par 4s. Well I went to the league Pres., VP and handicap chairman and explained. Playing the vintage stuff I could post and run my HC up a lot then play the modern stuff in tournaments. That would be sandbagging and dishonest and they agreed. They told the old busybody to MHOB and leave it up to the members to police themselves. I think as a whole our league is ran fairly.

@BIG STU you sound like a very honest person to me. I also find it cool you still play some rounds with the old sticks. I wouldn’t post those rounds either. I feel the same when guys are giving 3 foot putts. Those rounds become newspaper scores not a reflection of the handicap. 
    Sorry to hear you lost your friend. Seems like he was a great guy that made the most out of his situation. Lucky he had friends like you!

Good morning MGSpies from a slightly wet with light showers with the moon shining through not thick clouds early on this community call Thursday in WNY with a no-commute workday from the EP command post slightly below ground - hot coffee smells great and the house is in order.  Wife's procedure was "routine" as in nothing unexpected and she is recovering well, thank you for everyone's well wishes yesterday.  Also yesterday was the amazing first MeetUp for a few of us WNY Spies at Ravenwood GC inVictor NY and weather was most favorable, Steve did honors of first ball in play with Matt and Ryan keeping an eye on the ball while I was looking at the commemorative photo being taken.

And now you guys know what I could not tell you yesterday now the test has been announced.  It was great spending the day together and next time can not come soon enough, and we all agreed it will be better as a larger group with as many who can join in as we can get!

HOPE graduation session 6 of 6 at Niagara Frontier CC this evening will be the last weekday adventure for HOPE in 2024 and for the driving views on the Community Call  today.  Hope golf is a part of your day too!

Jim, you are far too modest.  It’s definitely an A+. Competitive golf is a whole different beast and to win is not easy. It requires a great deal of skill and mental fortitude, especially when battling through adversity.  To win twice is quite the accomplishment.  So take a bow, you’ve earned it and very well done.

Good Thursday morning Spies!

Having another cup of coffee and enjoying a couple of sausage biscuits before getting ready for the regular league round this morning. Have been struggling with game the past few weeks and hoping I can finally right the ship today.

Looking forward to the community call later today. Hope to see many of you there.

Good morning Spies! Another great MGS test opportunity pops up! I have been considering reshafting my driver with Newton anyway; this might be my chance.

One last day on the NC road trip, heading home from Raleigh this afternoon. Weather does not look promising for an afternoon round, but that's an option, as is meeting a friend I haven't seen in a while. Or might just head straight for the Casa.

Looks like @Javs and @Northern Monkey are having quite the week!

Good morning Guys!

I played 27 holes last night. Driver was crap but it comes and goes. I ended up shooting a 91 for the 1st 18 and then played the front 9 again and shot a 5 over 41 and I'm happy with that. Darkness crept in so I had to pack it in for the evening.

Good morning Spies!

Back in the office today, with a work happy hour to follow. Hopefully that means a shorter workday, but we shall see. My dad is scheduled to have hip replacement surgery this morning, so please send good vibes for that to go smoothly. He's an avid golfer and is not happy to have surgery mid-season, but it was necessary with the pain he was dealing with. 

I heard I may not have to go into the office tomorrow anymore, which would be great for me. Office on a Friday is just not something I can get on board with this day in age. At least either way we're quickly approaching the weekend. Unfortunately I won't make the Community Call today, but hope that everyone in attendance enjoys.

Goodmorning everybody! Been a busy week so haven’t been on the forum too much but end of the week means hopefully things slow down a little. Got out for 18 on Sunday morning before football. Round started off pretty well as far as the scorecard was looking par holes 1-4 with a couple just outside bird chances and then well you’d think I had never golfed before in my life. That scorecard got ripped up so fast I don’t even think we finished the front 9 before I was ready to chuck the clubs in the water and never touch a course again. I don’t think I hit more than 3 acceptable shots after the first 5-6 holes. Either thinned it or chunked and not a single shot off the center off the face. Yes I know my getting more and more frustrated was a major contributor. I was so pissed off after the round I just chucked all my stuff in the bed of the truck and went home. The day didn’t start off great either so I think I was just in a bad headspace from the go. Oh well. Hitting the ran*e tomorrow night since I’m working a 16 hr shift today and going to just take my time and take a breath. We all have blow up rounds and I guess that was just my due for this season.

Happy Community Call Thursday!! Looking forward to the call with Titleist. The OEM calls are always interesting and informative.

Bit of a humid morning, as my windows are covered in condensation. It's 60* at the moment, but 100% humidity with a bit of clouds and sun mixed. I really dislike humidity. Like, really dislike. Even with the cooler temps it's just sticky. Yuck.

Well, today is an interesting day for me. I'll finally be signing my very first will. Not sure why it's taken so long for me to do this, but I finally got off my a$$ and went to a lawyer to get it done. If you don't have one yourself, don't wait till your older or think it's just for old people. It's important and will save your family a lot of headaches should something happen to you, especially if it's unexpected. We're never guaranteed tomorrow, which has become very clear to me now.

Anyway, everyone have a fantastic Community Call Thursday!!

Good morning everyone! Sunshine is on the horizon finally! Hope it can get everything dried up by the weekend. My wife has a hair appointment tonight so hoping I can hit some balls after the little one goes down. Hoping to hop on the CC this afternoon before work ends to listen in since I wasn't able to last week!

My dad has always had the craziest luck with buying items--whether it be guitars, golf clubs, landscaping equipment etc. He sent me a link last night of a club that he just purchased on FB Marketplace from a driver won in a tournament that didn't need and should receive it tomorrow. Brand new PXG Black Ops Driver with a GD Tour AD-VF 5 S shaft for $400. I haven't been a fan of PXG woods in years, but that is a DEAL. I've seen just the VF shaft selling preowned for $250-285. Looking forward to giving it a whirl. He is 63 and has a pretty slow backswing and smooth transition so I'm curious if the VF profile will fit his swing, so if he ends up putting his Diamana back into this one, I am gonna see what he wants for it to put a Callaway tip on it and try a lighter non-tipped version compared to my VF-6 S.

Interesting. In recounting my July trip to Scotland here, I mentioned the 7-club tournament at Royal Dornoch where we were limited to only 7 clubs in the bag. I stunk. As I recall, the only reason I didn't finish DFL is that one guy didn't finish the round, and even then he had more Stableford points than I did when he quit. I dutifully posted the round with GHIN, but it just occurred to me this week that the 7-club thing might not be postable under WHS rules. So I contacted the regional golf association yesterday and he confirmed that limited-club rounds are not postable, so he's removing that from my list. To be determined if that affects my 'cap. EDIT: Nope. That disaster is not one of the rounds that currently counts toward my cap, on either side of the Atlantic. I logged into my Scottish Golf account and it doesn't count for them either.

So I wasn't gonna sign up for any testing .. but the Newton shaft definitely intrigues me after reading about it here .. then had a chance to swing a 4 Dot over the Summer (thx @Erin B!) and while I'd prob need a 3 or even maybe a 2 I could def feel the potential in it!

No golf today; gonna (try to) let the ole bod rest a bit and try to hit it tomorrow. 

Cannot catch the Community Call today, either, busy with my honey during that time...

GM all. Just tried the TRUEGOLFFIT app for fun to see what it might suggest, and lo and behold, it suggested the Ping G430 Max, and a few weeks ago I bought the G430 LST. Pretty close match, eh? I might have to try it for my next set of irons.

On another note, I clicked on the links in what may have been the original community map and those links didn't work. I'm guessing there must be new links. Anyone care to save this lazy ole dude some work and post a new link? I'm ashamed of my laziness, but what the heck. I feel like I've earned it (not here, just in general).
