Not posting a score today, because I limped in with 3 bogeys in a row to finish and shot a 78.   Didn't start out this foggy, but got worse as I went along.  Basically just aiming for an area where I knew the green was.  This is on the par 5, 12th hole.

Wind down to 10 - 15 mph and greens soft with the heavy rain recently.  Couple of strokes better than Monday but should have been 3 or 4 strokes better. After 2 or 3 rounds of ~28 putts, today I started hitting greens in regulation and can't hole out from anywhere outside 3' for 33 putts.

Went back to old school wrist pop putting with an old Bulls Eye putter. It really did well. Also went back to my old school style of wrist chipping. Seems to work well on our gnarly greens

Better, actually hit the ball pretty well, even though it feels like it's more arms than lower body at this point.  But, it is holding together for now....

Bit of a tale of two halves on this one - started out the front 9 pretty well, driver performed well but then all fell apart a bit on the back after a bad hole 10 and 11. Greens were very quick compared to my home course and was a good challenge as a result - sunk a couple of mid rangers but lipped out too many times to be happy with leaving me a few 3 putts. I'm definitely trying to take the positives though. Although I scored less points than last week (27 yesterday vs 29 last week), I played some better shots. Hybrid played well and if I can capture more of my driver from the front 9, I'll be happy. Nearly chipped in after putting myself in a greenside bunker (hit the flag), hit a 7 iron approach to about 12 ft (my long approach is usually pretty bad) and it was a good challenge on a much longer course than my usual

Played my first round with my new PXG Gen 7’s and the MMT 105 Stiff shafts. Hurt my back again on the opening drive. Played in pain all day. However, these clubs are awesome. Played the Blue tees rating 68.5 and slope 123. Greens were still healing from being punched. Hit 11 fairways, 13 greens and 29 putts. Had 2 bogeys on the back. Offset with 4 birdies. Nice round, but I am shutting it down till I get back from vacation. Don’t want to keep hurting the back before we leave. Hopefully I won’t be totally out of it for flight I when we get back.

Managed to get out for my only round this week earlier this morning, under cloudy skies, with warm and humid conditions after we had some storms roll through the previous days.

Only hope I had was that there would not be too many soggy spots or tree limbs down to impede playing.

Played very well on the front 9, had a 37, with the only bogey on a hole where I missed the fairway right on a dogleg left hole, hit it too far, and then tried to hit the shot to the green from a wet lie. Came up short, naturally, but at least the results were not terrible.

Back 9 started with a hooked tee shot using my driver on a hole where it may not have been the best play, and the left misses kind of kept it up on the back 9. It was getting warmer and more humid, so maybe it was something with my grip that was the cause? Ended up with a 40 on the back for a 77 total, so my recent scores have been very consistent, so that shows me that my course management when playing this track is pretty good, provided I would hit each and every shot as pictured or planned.

Busy schedule for me through the upcoming holiday weekend means my next round will be early next week at the earliest.

Took on the Red Tee challenge yesterday just to see how it would go. Let me say it is a totally different game. Heat began to get to me on the back 9 but it was fun. Will be trying this again forsure.

I know we've all had one of those days when every facet of your game goes South all at once.  Well, that was me today!

image.png.a9c09128d4cfb728e82ed317811b31e6.png

For the first 13 holes, I had six doubles, including four in a row.  My playing partner rightfully said "I haven't seen you get four doubles in a week of golf!"  He was right!   For those holes, nothing went right.  I didn't drive the ball very far today.  It was a combination of poor swings (but I did hit 79% of my fairways and misses were within feet of being in the fairway), wind and six or seven straight days of rain (cart path only and no roll to speak of).

I had only 6% greens in regulation, poor even for me!  The 29 putts should have been worse if I didn't use five total putts on the last five holes.  When I had a chance to get up and down, I hit a poor chip, a poor putt or both.

Then the 14th hole.  I hit the fairway, but was short, hit a five wood into a decent wind to about 28 yards off the green.  Then I proceeded to chip in for birdie.  The 15th, a longish par 4, I hit a decent drive, decent five wood and was 98 yards out with a back left pin placement.  I hit my approach wedge to just off the green, 20 feet or so from the pin and sunk it for par.  Two holes=no putts.  I pared two of the last three holes.

After being 19 over on the first 13 holes, I finished even par on the last five.  That give me hope and a reason to be optimistic on Saturday's round!

Great playing Javs.  Delighted to hear about your new PXG irons.  I'm hoping your back responds to rest and your treatment plan.  And don't worry, we still have to catch you.

Thank you very much. I am hoping my back responds to the time off. I also want to give the new irons and shafts a good shake down once I’m better. I really want to see how they perform when I can go after it. I think you and many others in flight I are going to run right over me like road kill in the coming weeks. Ha ha

The PXG irons are working hard to stay in the bag. Front 9 I made a couple mistakes that cost me 2 strokes.

Back 9, the first 3 holes are the toughest and shot par (missed easy birdie), bogey, bogey. Got par on the next and then made birdie on the easy par 4, 14th.  Tough 15th par 5 and smoked a drive and left second shot 70yds out. Hit to here and missed.

Par 4 17th, I duffed my drive bad and had 205 left. Hit right of green pin high and then made a 12ft par putt.

18th par 3, hit to 6ft pin high and missed that birdie putt.

Could have been one heck of a round!

Thanks. It could have been a great one. The 2 bogies on the front are holes I hardly ever mess up.

Played like an aggressive lunatic today  and I can definitively point to 4 strokes I know that were lost because of it.  I had a great time doing it though.

The score numbers do not reflect my day. The event coordinator had everyone off the wrong tees. For me the course was playing 700 yards longer than our usual course. I had not been there since my accident and reduced distance. The Ranger/Starter has been there forever and he told me the course plays an additional 250 yards longer than the card says. The course is in pristine conditions and long at sea level. It is lush in the fairways and they water it good so no roll. Hit the driver great all day but with that a lot of the par4s I had like 165 to 175 in. Had one Par 3 I had to do a run up 7 wood on because at 185 yards I can not carry it. I did manage to get it on the front of the green with about a 50 foot putt which I did manage to 2 putt. Had a stellar day putting with those greens rolling like a pool table. Like I said I was not too embarrassed on the score. There were some higher numbers shot because of the wrong tees. One of the top players in my league shot like 85. He was hitting his driver good and had about the same yardage in as I had from one set of tees back. But our team did win on net score. No one of our 16 players had a birdie which was saying how difficult it played. All in all though a good ball striking day for me personally and I did prove to myself again I can putt on good greens
