Being a Grateful Golfer

Recommended Posts

Golf is an amazing sport. It affords us the opportunity to challenge ourselves, enjoy the company of others, and experience new things on the links. For me golf is about being grateful for the wonderful things it provides.

Are you grateful for golf? Are you a grateful golfer?

Welcome from the Pacific Northwest!  Glad you joined us.

Yes, I'm grateful.  I met my wife on the golf course, got married on the golf course, play golf as much as we can, and we travel specifically to play golf.  Best buds!!

We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

I am for both, I have met some really great friends thanks to golf and golf gives me an avenue to let out some steam from the work week.

Without a doubt. I have never come across something so challenging, yet also so rewarding. I'm grateful for the times I get to go out with friends and family and enjoy a round or two. I've met many new people because of the game, and I plan to meet many more. It's a great sport.

I am definitely grateful for being able to play this game, escape from the world for a few hours, make and sustain new friendships, and just enjoy nature.

My belief is that we are all responsible for that sacred ground where we play golf. We should be mindful of our own trash as well as our divots, pitch marks, etc. and be sure to pick up litter that we find along the way, repair a couple extra divots, rake the sand, you name it.

Honestly... I take it for granted. I've been playing so long that I just can't imagine not playing. I am grateful that my health and body are good allowing me to play as much as I want when I want. I'm grateful to live where I can play year round. I'm grateful to have a decent course to play at a reasonable rate.

so...I'm confused... why would any invest the time and money to play golf if they weren't grateful for it?

This is the definition of "grateful" from dictionary.com:

adjective
1.
warmly or deeply appreciative of kindness or benefits received;thankful:
I am grateful to you for your help.
2.
expressing or actuated by gratitude:
a grateful letter.
3.
pleasing to the mind or senses; agreeable or welcome; refreshing:
a grateful breeze.

Obviously the 2nd meaning has no relevance but I think the first and third are very relevant here.  If you're not getting pleasure or thankful for something then why would you do it (or continue to do it) in the first place?

I'm not trying to be rude or obnoxious, just want to understand what is being asked...

stokerAce,

That is a valid question. I actually think all three definitions apply depending on the circumstance. Being 'grateful' for the many things in our lives is a way of life and golf is just one. It means something different to everyone and there is no right answer to your question. If we polled 100 people, I bet we would get 100 different answers.

Cheers

JIm
