How to deal with sprinkler heads in your line of olay

Golf ball is on fringe.  There is a sprinkler head directly in front of the ball (within 2 club lengths) which doesn’t allow a putt

the sprinkler head is within 2 club lengths of the green

Sprinkler head does not affect stance or swing but it doesn’t allow a putt since the ball would roll over the sprinkler head

the sprinkler head is below the grass and not protruding abound ground

does player get relief

Yes, if the committee/course has adopted the model local rule that provides relief in this situation. Otherwise, no.

In case anyone wants to read this for themself, its Model Local Rule F-5

For this reason exactly, I always practice chipping from the fringe as well as from the rough.  I never feel uncomfortable chipping from tight lies.

I never give it a thought. I'm a good chipper and just chip over it and go for a one putt. But since you bring it up, I do have this happen several times a year. If I had to ask for a local ruling I'd still be waiting for an answer at my club.
