So, this tied the closet I ever came to the perfect round. I unfortunately bogeyed the first hole by missing a three footer. However, played the rest of the way three under. No other bogeys! Greens had been punched and missed a lot of putts for birdie or Eagle. Missed a four footer on the last for 69! However, great ball striking day!! My handicap keeps dropping and it’s made it impossible to be competitive in this event!

Played yesterday in a tough somewhat unfamiliar (greens) course, and played well for the front nine but succumbed to the heat (stayed hydrated but fatigued)on the back 9 and just used that for practice. Played today guarding against the same conditions but different course.

So today, shot 79, 10 pars (my theoretical goal), 1 birdie (6 net), 8 1-putts (5 up/downs), but only 7 GIRs (my avg).  29 putts, likely my all time best, and only the 3rd round in my life breaking 80.

Long day off the tee. 47 on the front-nine and 40 on the back-nine. Irons and wedges saved the day. Putter was good but nothing wanted to fall. Satisfied with steadily hitting the cup and settle for a tap-in second putt.

Cobra 50th Anniversary Round - Week 1 (Woods / Wedges)

Overall, great kick-off round for the Cobra challenge - I was a bit worried about sticking to woods / wedges only on an executive course (par 61), but my strategy to lay up on longer par 3s with my 48° worked out pretty well, given the strength of my short game.

Shot of the day was my 3W on the Par 4 2nd Tee - hit a 246 yard bomb to rest right off the green (granted its a slightly downhill shot, but still).

Early (pre-work round).  Started off with a natural birdie on 1 475 uphill par 5, gave it back on 2 with 160 to the pin and flew it 15 yards long with my 8 iron..... 15 putts and 2 more (net birdies) on the front.  Started the back with a great drive that took a bad bounce left under the trees, a great punch out put me in the greenside bunker.  burned the edge of the cup and a bogey....BEST news of the day my nemesis hole 11 180 yd par 3 is almost always playing into a headwind, the par 3 I always bogey (sometimes worse.....) was about a ball width from a hole out today, l was left with about 3 feet for birdie and made it.!!!!! Played the par 3's today at -1 (gross)/(-3 net) which is really great for me.  Normally I am +2 or +3 on the par 3's here.  A bad pull on the 16th, luckily ended up in the rough on 15.  A blind uphill shot from a downhill lie with a decent window in the tree line on 16 got it greenside but lipped out the par putt.....  Ball striking was much better/more consistent today than my last few rounds....Movin on Up (or down as it were on the handicap road)....

Everything was working great, from the driver on down to putter. Even holed out for a birdie from off the green and lipped out on another. Best all-around round I have had in a long time.

It was the first time playing the course on a Canadian wildfire hazy 79° day with minimal winds.  The local news reported local air quality was the worst in the world today.  Not warming up influenced the inconsistency, but I enjoyed playing with a potential referral partner.  3 errant tee shots resulted in penalties that didn't help matters.

There has been a reoccurring theme over the last several months with my posted scores.  Overall, not great!  

I had a very uncharacteristic putting day with 35 putts (including two three-putts) and a less than stellar fairways hit percentage of 64%.  I try to look at things as positive as I can.  I did hit 22% of my greens in regulation (which is double what I'm used to).  

Looking back, I really didn't feel I played that poorly.  Unfortunately the scorecard said something different.   I could list a bunch of excuses (3-4 inches of rain in the last day and a half, cart path only, people showing up late and having to make team adjustments when we should be teeing off, etc.) but they are all just excuses.  As I was leaving, I talked to our assistant pro to set up some lessons.  I need to get out of this funk and I'm hoping having a pair of fresh eyes and some instruction I can return to my Virtual Tour championship form.

Course in decent shape, we need rain... greens though were quick and soft.

Played ok but this course will grab you when you least expect it. It's a good challenge for all levels of golf.

Just pick this up at a golf outing by winning the longest putt.
