Today was absolutely incredible. Had some really incredible holes that I played today and parts of my game that are finally getting ironed out. Notable mentions first and foremost:

  1. Swing adjustment from hitting too much off the toe.
  2. TSR 3 driver is an absolute rocket for me. BY FAR THE BEST DRIVER I HAVE EVER PLAYED (See my longest drive as an example ;)).
  3. Played with the Srixon Z (Zed) Star Diamond golf ball as I am currently testing it. Pulled out my inner Brooks for sure.
  4. Putter did fantastic.

I really noticed some wonderful changes thanks to the swing, but one thing that is universal that I can give as advice to everyone who reads this is to make sure you talk through your shots. I tried to do that as much as possible and on the shots I did, I had wonderful shots into the green or putts that I made.

The biggest notable thing was my eagle on hole 6 on the "Back Nine." I hit a fantastic drive 330 yards, 170 yards into the green, I pulled 9 iron and stuffed it to 10 feet pin high. Made the putt and got me the big bird. However, two holes later I triple bogey thanks to an OB and some horrible short game.

I could keep going but suffice it to say today was one of the best rounds I have played in a long time!! 😃

*P.S. - If anyone is wondering why I played the same 9 twice. We had a lot of rain over the past two days and the super said we could not play the traditional 18 so I played the 9-hole side of Snowflake Municipal.

Amazing round! Congrats on the big bird!!!

Just a heads up that you entered in your score as a 72 with a course handicap of 34 😉 I think that might not be totally correct, lol.  I mean...right? That would be crazy!

Undone by unforced errors on 8, 16, 17.  Weird kind of day.  Holed some great puts, 3 putted some easy ones, hit some great recovery shots, completely blew others.  Golf... 🤦‍♂️

The back 9 of this course has been treating me really well.

There are a few important notes for this round. One is that the course is starting its major construction for the 2024. All new bunkers, new back tee boxes and much much more. This meant that I had to play Yellow because the white tee boxes are closed off.

The other thing is that the greens were punched on Tuesday and the ball was bouncing! It made line very unpredictable and it was all about speed. I was fortunate to have some great chips and only made a couple putts outside 6 feet.

This was also my first full round with the new Titleist irons (played a quick 9 yesterday and shot 42 on the front) and I am truly blown away. I still suck on par 3s, but between the irons doing well and getting a great consistency in the front to back dispersion. I also found a great combo with driver and had one bad tee shot.

With the previous few solid rounds it has meant that my handicap did drop and where I had been getting 11 strokes previous I only get 9 now. However it still should make for a very interesting round for our Matchplay!

Thought I'd swim around the kiddie pool at this nicely kept executive course. Turned into a rough day at the office. The kiddie course kicked my butt.

Couldn't hit my driver to save my life. "Long drive" was a 2i from the tee on a hole with a creek protecting the green and the end of the fairway about 210y. That was the only fairway I hit. I'm glad I wasn't at a course that required 13 or 14 swings with the driver 😅

Today was by far my best round of the season. My knowledge of the greens and overall course layout led to many scoring chances and a day of putting I haven’t had in quite some time. Made so many par saves from 5-10 feet and threw a few darts I was able to convert into birdies.

Clearly 18 birdies hasn’t had a chance to update the topography since the course began construction. This drive was on a 490 yard par 5. Took advantage of the sloping fairway and caught the perfect angle to get an extra 50 yards of roll.

Thanks. Was -1 going into 17 but it’s a beast of a par 4. No room for error and I mangled it.

It was a surprising start to round to say the least.

I was playing with some ex-colleagues who are good friends. We hadn't played together in almost 6 months. I only had one swing thought for the day - easy swings, no need to kill it.

We teed off at 2pm - still hot, but the intensity of the sun was starting to wane. It's Formula One weekend here in Singapore, so we could hear the race cars doing their practice runs in our downtown circuit. It's a high-pitched whine that carries for miles. Choppers from media were flying overhead, using the course as a convenient way to swing around and do another fly-by on the circuit. There was a lot going on above and around us.

By the time I stepped off the 7th green, I realised I was even on the day. I haven't had such a low score in a LOOOOOOOONGGGG time. The nerves started to creep in. My buddies didn't help by reminding me every shot what I could round the turn at. 🙉

On 8, I had a nasty 19-footer downhill that broke 3-ft right-to-left. I lipped out that putt, but it ended up slingshotting 7-ft away. I left the comeback half a rotation short and went from par to double.

I then proceeded to chunk my tee shot on 9 into a greenside pot bunker and I was really getting agitated that I would miss rounding the turn in the 30s. Gathered myself enough to get out of the bunker, but a long ways to go to the pin. 2-putted for bogey and finished the front at 39.

Unfortunately, the back 9 was more typical of me and I had too many doubles to recover from. But it was a good ball striking round, so ultimately I'm happy. It also helps bring my hdcp down to a 15.8. Now I need to make sure to lower expectations for the game next week! 🫣

🚨🚨PERSONAL BEST ALERT 🚨 🚨

Today was a day I won’t soon forget. First I need to give a HUGE shoutout to @Hobert  Although he didn’t realize it, in the mist of a stretch that was taking this round the wrong way, our discussion via sleeper about fantasy player values totally took my mind off the previous bad swings. Many thanks sir!

Now for the round. It was a chilly dewey morning but wanted to play anyways. I opened up hitting the first fairway and green to card a birdie on the 1st. This is huge for me as the course has no range for warmup. Followed that birdie with 2 pars.
Then the fireworks happened. I smashed driver over the trees of the dogleg right par 5 and found fairway about 210 out.  Grab the trusty Ping Rapture 2-iron(flex) and just missed the green to the right by 5’. A little bump and run and found the bottom of the cup for eagle.
Managed to birdie the 5th after a good drive and wedge to 7’.
Then comes the short par 4. Snuck a drive over the edge of the trees and ended with less than 3 foot for eagle.
For those keeping track yes that is -6 though 6!

Then the wheels began to fall off.  Par, Bogey, Double to end the fromt 9 at 33.

Started the back with another double. Then the discussion with Hobert started and I quit thinking about golf and just swung. Snagged 3 birdies in a round middle round and finished with 3 pars to come in at 35.

All in all that’s a 33/35 -4 68. Great score only hitting 10GIR(11 if ya count the chip in) and 7 FIR. The big savior was the chip in and only 26 putts.  5 birdies and 2 eagles.

This just feels like a wasted opportunity. Could not make a putt today to save my life (or help out my match-play partner - sorry, buddy). Missed every putt low - speed was pretty good, just couldn't trust that it would break that much and then, it broke that much. Sigh. Oh, I also jammed in a 3-ft putt for par that hit the back of the cup and bounced out for bogey. That felt great.

One of these days, I'm going to figure it all out and then...look out. Lol.

On the plus side, the Caley's are absolute money on the course, and the Indi wedges have presented me with the problem of spinning TOO much around the green - I got so used to the ball releasing quite a bit with my older wedges, that when these things check up immediately I'm leaving myself 12 feet for par - not ideal.

It’s funny you say that Jamie as today could very well have been the typical round for me lately. Play so well but have a bad hole that blows up into 3-5 bad holes.

Aerated greens in the previous 24 hours so... Starting to think the focus I have for every shot in this Match Play tournament is probably the kind of focus most golfers have as they pursue their idea of what should be on their scorecard 🤔 honestly, each hole I record my score and think oh boy this is going to be a lower round, and then Team Captain Matt says, "actually..." and my dense as concrete brain for golf scoring is again perplexed by the magic of it all - Go Team L.A.B. Unfortunately, it's the same stroke I was using previously that was working quite well - the only thing that's changed is the sheer amount of spin. I'm not mad at it, I just have to get out and got those shots before the round to get a sense of what the greens are doing. Unfortunately, the practice greens were JUST punched and sanded and weren't available pre-round. Oh well. 😜
