Group went on trip, played here.  Place was excellent, with fairways like a carpet, and the greens were firm and pretty quick.  Highlight of day for me was I stuck a shot on a par 3 at 8 inches.

Rating here is 70.3/121

Nice round!

Play like a champion today!

Played about as well as I have lately. 9 1-putts helped a LOT, all but one of those scrambling for par. My chipping game keeps giving me good looks at par, which is great. Still lots of work to be done, especially off the tee. Hopefully new Otto Phlex and Ai Smoke Max head that arrived today (post-round) will aid in that department.

One birdie, one three-putt, long drive of 285 (gotta love our baked out fairways, lol), and a LOT of battling through the final nine holes fighting dehydration/something - not sure I've ever been that exhausted before, but it helped me focus on hitting one good shot (as I didn't have the energy to hit two bad ones 😉 )

Was a rather blah round... Greens still recovering from aeration and while no major trouble encountered, I was not striking the ball particularly well. Had a tendency to leave everything out to the right, no slice or fade, just right. Next range session will include strong alignment emphasis...

One of these frustrating days, holed some good putts and missed some easy putts. 8 on the 3rd put an end to me being competitive in the medal; lost ball, heavy 4th on for 5 and 3 putt on one of the easiest holes on the course. 17th was a bit of a nightmare as well; hit a great drive about 270 yds but caught the fairway bunker tried to take it clean with 52° and advanced it only 30 yds, pitch shot comes up short, chip comes up short and 2 putts for 6. Grr. Current showing a differential of 7.9 so should be a counter and get me back down to 8.

I seem to be in a groove lately...a positive one!

image.png.f175fb092eb9039bf6740bf1fa8986fe.png

My fairways in regulation was only 50% (significantly lower than normal).  However, I recovered well for the most part.  My greens in regulation was 22%, about double of my normal percentage.  The difference lately has been solid fairway woods to our relatively small greens.  Today, it included a 150 yard seven wood within 3 feet for birdie on a par 4.

My up and downs was only four, slightly lower than average mostly because I missed a couple of relatively short putts.   Still only 26 total putts.  My only double was the 18th.  After finishing 17, we were stuck in a rain storm for about 15 minutes.  I didn't warm up after sitting and paid the price!

Still, very consistent this week:  82, 79, 80.   I don't want to pinch myself just in case I wake up!

I don’t know if anyone noticed, but this season, I have barely participated in this thread. This is my 9 or 10th attempt to post here. I deleted the others because they were depressing, whinny rants, at least to me. Mainly because I have been depressed and whinny since I came to realization that my season was probably over.

12 days ago I had a great round. When I walked (limped? Shuffled? Hobbled?) off the course 11 days ago, I was convinced it would be 8-16 weeks before I could play again at best. I paid my losses and went immediately home. I was certain my only option was two total knee replacements.

It’s been a rough few months leading to this decision, but I decided I was out of options. I’ve lost 70+ yards off the tee in the last 2 years, and this year I struggle past playing 14 holes.

The doctor wanted to try other things first, and I had a couple of much smaller procedures on both knees. It’s been a few days, and today I went in back yard and made some swings. No problem with the mid-irons thru wedges. (About 80% power) The left knee is not ready for the driver or full power just yet. And I maybe able to walk from the cart to the greens in relative comfort.

It is my hope to play a partial round tomorrow. By that I mean dropping 150-100 yards from the green and playing the hole out but only from level lies. And I will not hesitate to call it quits if I need to. Obviously, I won’t be posting a score, but I will be returning to posted rounds much sooner than I expected.

I now expect that middle or end of next week I can play 18 holes. Ultimately, I will likely have to have the replacements, but at least I can schedule so that I’m not missing June-September.

Edit added: I am no longer depressed about it. 🤣

Keep the head up, time is  a great healer, but it is age that gets you.

I'm getting use to my new normal back after some health issues last year, lost yardage and just beginning to accept the fact that I can't reach the long par 4s any longer. Still holding on to my h/c of 8. If I can do it anybody can.

Been playing weekly, most of the time we have a 4th some and play a 2 man scramble! This week get to play  twice, by myself and shot pretty well for me the first go around! 6 GIR and 2 birdies!

I don’t know if anyone noticed, but this season, I have barely participated in this thread. This is my 9 or 10th attempt to post here. I deleted the others because they were depressing, whinny rants, at least to me. Mainly because I have been depressed and whinny since I came to realization that my season was probably over.

Hang in there @RoverRick

Physical issues will pop up, especially as we all age.  It's how we respond and alter our game that makes the difference.  In the last fifteen years I've had a broken neck, two shoulder operations and a new left knee.  What I was physically capable of doing changed and so did my game.   Prior to my issues, driver was in my bag just to hold my towel and I putted side saddle.  My long irons were my strength.   Now, my driver and putter are my trusted friends and the longest iron I play is my 7!  Taking all that into play, my average score over the last 20 plus years is only changed +/- 0.75 strokes per year.   Your body will compensate, and your game may likely change, but it doesn't necessarily mean it will get worse.

My left knee was so bad, the surgeon's PAs were taking bets if I could really walk or not!  Having it replaced was the second-best decision I've ever made!  Getting married to my wife of 42 years now is the best.   Being dedicated to physical therapy and pushing myself, I was able to play golf again after six weeks.   It was amazing playing pain free!

Do what the doctor say, do what you can with PT and other exercises to get better and work your way back to greatness!

After my practice session this morning, ended up playing my normal afternoon round and wow!

Front 9 I shot a 2 under 34 and left 3 birdie putts on the edge. Back 9 I bogied the first 2 with silly mistakes.

10, 135 out on my 3rd and pulled into greenside bunker and lipped out for par. 11, hit decent drive but caught the top of a tree that threw it down.  Had to punch out and then hit a great putt for bogey.  Missed a few easy birdies on the back as well.

FW- 10/14

GIR- 10/18 ---- hit 8/9 on the front.

Thanks!  After the front 9, I was thinking it could be the day. My playing partners were struggling and kept saying, dang, tempo and everything was on fire.

Tale of two rounds. I played well 48 hours ago and shot 74 and then today and can't string two shots together and struggle to shoot an 81. Oh well, tomorrow is another day.

My partner and I didn't have a proper warm-up as a sixsome was getting ready to tee off in front of us. Not in the mood for a 5 hour round, we ventured on.

Hole 1- Double bogey, not the way to start but hey, no warm-up, I'll take it.                Hole 2- Par, OK, let's go!   Hole 3- Triple bogey, who put that stupid tree there in the first place? Stupid hole!   Hole 4- Bogey    Hole 5- Double bogey, I'm not liking the game of golf right now.    Hole 6- Par, Whoo Hoo! I righted the ship.   Hole 7- Triple bogey, Hardest hole btw, Great tee shot, dunked my approach, my 4th went over the green, fifth on and a two-putt from long range. Stupid effin' hole!!   Hole 8- Double bogey, The breeze was "freshening" now and it ate up my tee shot.  Hole 9- Bogey, just average run-of-the-mill. I hate this game!!

The back nine was much better. There were 5 pars with the last one coming on 18. My partner and I were tied. I had a 35 footer for par. I made the putt!! He had about an 8 footer to tie for the round, but he pulled it and it rolled by the cup. He made the bogey putt giving me the win. I love this game!

The flower photo is that of a type of cactus that only has blooms for a couple of days a year. I noticed the flower and snapped a picture. Enjoy.

Wow! Wow! Wow! I was happy just to be able to hit short irons and wedges today. I had planned to try it on the range, but didn’t expect to be able to hit driver today. I didn’t get there in time to even warm up. I told everyone I was only in the deuce bet, not the others because I didn’t think I could hit driver all 18 holes if at all.

First hole, perhaps the best drive of the day. Perhaps 190 center of the fairway. I doubt I hit anything over 190, but I wasn’t swinging full speed. Overall,I played better than expected, my knees not only held up, but the thing that has me most excited is after an hour in the bar after the round, I was able to stand up.

Not my best iron/wedge day. Pretty good off the tee though. Only 1 lost ball and my longest drive was 273 yds, a bit downhill though. But I'll still take it. Lots of work to do.
