no, though i’m sure it’s playing a pretty big part.  i’ve pretty much eliminated my bad heel side miss, but i don’t know specifically where i’m making contact

i’ve got a lesson with my coach on monday, so i’ll ask to slap the face dots on and see what’s happening with strike location.

Just a bout to mention AOA and strike location. Love to hear more about those since those will really affect the distance. Looking forward to hearing more after the lesson. Keep up the hard work.

Better range session today than the last. Among many things wrong with my swing, I tend to get the right arm pulled away from my body a bit on the backswing, so today I really focused on keeping the arms and upper body "together" going back and I striped a ton of balls. Unreal how well I was hitting for a bit, even with my old Cobra AMP driver I use for winter work.

I struggled a bit toward the end of the buckets as I got tired. Looking through video, I started to overcook staying more "outside" with the takeaway and really began pushing the club out away from me on the backswing. Next time out I'll add that to the list of things to pay attention to... and that list is getting pretty long again 🤣.

This is what I would call one of the better swings of the day - 16 degree Callaway Super Hybrid, 146 MPH ball speed from tee. I didn't get too outside on the takeaway on this one. FlightScope Mevo misread some ridiculous amount of spin (almost 5k), so the carry was only estimated to be 225, but with a real ball this thing would have been crushed. (Unfortunately, with all of the snow on the ground I really couldn't even guess where it landed.)

Another net session today to work on improving my hip and shoulder sequencing on the downswing.  About 30 minutes worth about evenly split between swings without a ball there and actually hitting a ball.  I've still got a lot of swings to go to make it second nature.

Thank you! Making good progress this winter after spinning my wheels some this past summer. Would love to be a comfortable single digit handicap next year, but it's all going to hinge on how well I translate practice to actual play...

Incredible how many swings it takes to change a motion - and then I end up going too far the other way. Oops.

I got a grey PuttOut mat for Christmas, which for us was yesterday. I brought it out today and spent some time trying to get a 3 foot putt to stick in the perfect putt hole. It took about 25 tries before finally got one to stick. One of the first things I noticed was I start putts off to the right just a bit. I will say, it's a pretty addictive training aid.20210103_153337-01.jpeg.267137d7b4cead502f1b7a847736f24b.jpeg

Too cold to play outside, so I played on a sim today. Chose TPC Scottsdale. Irons and wedges were shaky so I didn’t hit but 1/2 of the greens, but I did putt well, especially for being on a sim!

Weird range session this morning (last of the holiday break for me). It was fully overcast and with all of the snow on the ground I couldn't see the balls in flight at all, which was a bummer. I hit two buckets without really knowing more than strike location and ball speed, and personally felt like it was a pretty crummy session until I got home and looked through my Mevo clips.

I did a great job cleaning up my takeaway and much to my surprise the start line of the majority of my shots was perfect! Such a relief as I feared I was just spraying the ball all over the place.

Back to once-a-week sessions starting next weekend unless the weather doesn't cooperate to travel to the range, which is OK as the mats do beat up my wrists and elbows a bit.

Very pleased with how the swing is shaping up with three months to go before we hit reasonable golfing weather:

Today was a range day, as I've been hitting into a net the past few days and wanted to get out and check ball flight. Not a bad session, I'm really getting good at 25-30 yard shots and was getting close to the marker. Anything over that was a disaster. I would try to hit between 50/70 yards and was shanking the daylights out of the ball. The shorter shots were looking good, though.

Moved on to 8 iron.20210105_151607-01.jpeg.2b9d620a6af0faf0fc6df7e105264140.jpeg

One off the toe, but other than that not too shabby.

Moved on to the 6 iron, strike was fairly consistent toward the middle but still ruining high to low. Except the guy that wandered near Shanksville.

20210105_152339-01.jpeg.9e6ffc6912df9a2c950969931b0cf0fc.jpeg

5 wood still needs work, the surprising thing is the center shot was a little duck hooky. 20210105_152819-01.jpeg.bbd3cffa7857f4407cba10a8f9d0271d.jpeg

My driver looked good, I was hitting a pretty consistent fade and a high number of the shots would have found the fairway.

Went to the range yesterday and hit a bunch of balls. 90% of the balls hit were done via a drill I got in my first lesson with Tyler McGhie. Then moved to driver, 5 iron, 58*, to PW, to 8 iron, to driver, etc, rotating clubs as though I was on-course.

Its amazing how much further the absolutely flushed shots go! Ones that were still hit well were right on target, but those perfect strikes were 10 yards longer! I thought to myself, “So, this is what it’s like for a pro!” Crazy how consistent they are, and how inconsistent I am! Man, they’re good.

My swing transition is a struggle and is so hard to change. Got to the range today for the first time in a while.

small progress I am “humping” the ball a little later and a little closer to impact which I think is progress? My camera stand couldn’t go back any further or would have been in a walking path but here is the top of my backstroke to almost impact. I am happy that I am opening the hip up a little bit on that transition which I was typically already thrusting on the 2nd still.0C9FFDBF-30BF-44D0-A57F-871CE980EC88.png.286219e70bb38a00c571244e3b9152ba.png6AE8CE0E-6183-431C-8551-1B2F4187BF8E.png.d8f6d0512f4378e68307aabc0d89539f.pngADD3C0B4-0F70-40B6-8BB7-2BE1EBA9D1A1.png.d41321bd53c5e0f134fa6f47651d12bd.png

One thing I did find today at the top of my swing I have always broken my wrists. When I was hitting some wedges I didn’t do that and I was hitting the ball much squarer and much better striking on the face when I did that. I transition that down my clubs all the way to driver and I was very happy with the results, was not as “heely”

Had 10 strikes all in the same general area, great flight good distance

Hip rotation WIP.....

I like the heel up on the lead foot of your backswing.  I never did that but am trying to groove that move into my swing to make it easier for me to get a full turn.  The heel up on the backswing and better sequencing of my hips / upper body on downswing are my current swing thought projects.  That's all I can handle at one time and that may be one too many!

I think I need to pivot the lead foot a little better to allow for my rotation.....

That comes from baseball but on the dirt I could pivot better when planted with the grass I can’t as well. Might be something I’ll have to look at. But like you said got a lot of thoughts in my head already trying to figure out what works and what doesn’t

Got to practice today. 20 min putting and 40 min on range. Range I did half bucket at 55, 75, 100 and 125 markers. Other half divided between irons and driver. Most of time was spent working on flighting wedges. Feeling ready for the weekend.

Really nice job keeping the clubface square through the swing...your work is paying off!!!

Thank you. After really struggling for a bit mid-summer, I had a pretty good fall and it's carrying over to winter practice. Still lots of little things to clean up, but I feel like the reps I'm putting in are starting to take hold. Feels like my swing is in a lot better position by default, and keeping the club face more square or even a bit closed has helped a ton.
