I made an EAGLE!!! 🤩 It's been 24 hours and I can't still believe it 🤯

I was playing the best I've ever played when my card started to get away from me.. At that point I reached the 11th hole a par 4 with a small dogleg right at the end.

Hit a great driver [Shotscope tells me 243m/265y] that headed to the left of the fairway and that unfortunately run out of it.

I arrived to my ball, in the rough, not a bad lie but with a tree on top of me so that the branches do not let me play far from the ground. I'm 65m/71y and forced to play low.. so I take my pitching wedge with the idea of doing a partial shot and bounce once in the fairway, twice just before the green and then waiting for it to roll towards the pin. It's a flat green and from where I am I have a narrow clean entrance with a bunker on the right (usually front) and trees on the left (usually back) [image below] but more focused on carching the green than anything else.

I hit the ball well and it flights on the intended line.. one hop, two hops, it starts rolling at the beginning of the green slightly right of the pin (25cm/1foot) but with good speed to stop close, slowly started to turn in towards the hole as the ball looses speed and with the end of it's roll it dissapears from sight!!! 🤩

I believe half the course heard the shouts!!!

TLDR: I made my first ever EAGLE and on a par 4!!! Amazing stuff!

started really bad, but rallied for a good round, but 3rd shot on 18 into a par 5 green, I hit fat, right into a green side bunker.... grrrrr!!

popped it out, but then drained the 20 footer to save par, and the great round.

actually ended up with 26 putts, which is really good for me

4 birdies today, but the sotd was the 150, out of a bunker, over a death ravine, past the cup, uphill, and then the roll back down to 12” away..

I called it the lucky shot of the day, but my buddy says weren’t you trying to do that? I said well yea, but… He said it’s not lucky when it’s something you are trying to do… so I just said hmmmm….

I struggle with the pitching wedge in my set. My other wedges are steel shafted and much heavier. The PW is graphite, and just feels like a twig, and I've been all over the place with it, especially poor with distance control. In the past month I've stopped playing it as a "wedge", and considered it a "10 iron." That mindset has changed the way I swing it, and I've been much better. Today I used it for 5 approach shots, all went the correct distance, and got two birdies. Hole 3 was 132 yard par three, and my putt was only about 40".

I continue to be impressed with the Paradym X irons. My SOTD was a 6-iron from 167 yards to 15 feet. I’m seeing more shots like this with these irons than I ever have.

Shots/holes of the day.  Too hard to pick one:

Birdied holes 1,2,3 and 5. Had a few doubles for a 39 for 9. First string of 3 birds, most birdies in a round for me 9 or 18.

Hole 1. Good drive. Pured easy PW swing to 6'

Screenshot_20230608-231838.jpg.96d3517df6efa6704f23a05e31473b43.jpg

Hole 2: 240yd uphill drive is long for me. 50deg pitch from 85 uphill a groove low or heeled... regardless it skipped and parked at 2' 😊

Screenshot_20230608-231810.jpg.2611d052d24221db886ff8c7ed4c47f1.jpg

Third hole, pulled teeshot but lie was ok enough for a 7i layup. Absolutely mashed my 7 and it was a flier. My layup shots tend to be the ones I absolutely crush 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♂️. Pitch didnt spin but I made the 50 footer!!! ❤❤🔥🔥

Best hybrid I've hit in a while that drew really nicely and rolled just off the back of the green.  Hit putter just enough to drop down the tier and come to rest about a foot from the flag for a tap in par.

This was my drive of the round last night. IMG_0738.png.c39b53ad538f50e8667f76d9307d17bc.png

It isn’t very often that I have an 8i in for my second shot on a par 5. I’ve been on a good wave of golf lately, and drives like this one are, admittedly, a lot of fun.

!60 yd. par 3 - my tee shot goes right,  hit's a tree and drops straight down into the high rough - I topped my 56* wedge and ended up on top of a hill in shorter rough. I'm now hoping to walk away with a bogie. My next shot, a LW hits the top of the pin/flag and drops straight down into the hole. A saved par the hard way. Funny thing is something similar happened last Friday in the same men's group on a Par 4 - my LW shot hit the pin, and dropped straight down - but that time it was for a birdie.

Had something similar happen to me last week during league.  Hit a pretty decent drive and only had 87 yards to the pin.  Hit a nice smooth SW since the green slopes away and I wanted to land it in the front part of the green.  Came up 10 or so yards short.  Nice easy wedge and I hear it hit the stick (I'm thinking oh man... I never have that luck where it drops straight down into the hole - normally kicks left or right).  look up and catch the second or two before it drops right into the cup! Birdie the hard way, LOL

My hole of the day was on hole number 4 of my home course. I nice birdie. I teed off with my 3-wood since my Driver game has abandoned me. That left me with 160 yards from the rough. My next shot was with my 7-iron and made the putt for birdie which is a rarity in my game. 😁

My hole of the day was one that had the heart pumping this evening. Par 5 15th is dogleg right that is playing 506 yds and is usually a struggle to get par for me. Bogey is very common on my card. Today started off with a 297yd tee shot (I love my driver) that rolled into the rough on the left side. From there I went with 5 iron and actually got really solid contact which sent my ball to the green with a ballmark at 204yds.

That was the first time I’ve ever been on the green in two for a par 5. The first thought in my head was that I had a chance for an eagle, which I’ve never had before. Ball was around 25’ from the hole and pretty flat. Ball was online but came up about a foot short. Ouch. Oh well, tap in birdies are always a cool feeling. 😁

My shot of the day was a Callaway Warrior 5wood about 155 metres up hill to the middle left side of the green, really like this old 5wood because it loves me 🤩 so going to start selling some of the 3-5-7 woods I got...

Best shot I had to day was at Green Meadows golf course which is a country club in the Knoxville area but the shot was 129 in and I had a P wedge in my hands and decided to go after it and hit a smooth P wedge and I landed the ball pin high to about 2 feet and sank it for birdie

Sunday's shot of the day was my drive on hole eight.  Still having driver issues where I vacillate between hitting it dead straight, a decent draw, and a weak hook.  This one was wild because it never went too high, drew slightly, landed at the high point of the fairway and ran on the dry ground forever.  Threw it all away on a tricky green, but such is life.

Shot of... yesterday was in @MattWillGolf's neck of the woods, the 2nd hole at Radisson Greens Golf Club. Coming off a frustrating bogey on the first, I stood on the 160ish yard par 3 with an 8 iron and a slight helping wind. Hit it to a tucked pin to 2 feet. Set up the first of two birdies in a round best left forgotten, except for this shot.

In our men's league this morning one of our golfers had a hole in one on the front nine and lipped out for his second eight holes later on the back nine.

Before we teed off, he was so excited that he shot the best round of his life the day before (73 on a par 70).  I guess it's been a memorable couple of days!

haha, same hole today as yesterdays, I missed the bunker with a good drive, and had a blind 115 yard PW. Sooo, I hit it just perfectly and crossed my fingers that it landed somewhere near the hole. We all drove up to the green, and noticed there was only 2 balls on the green, but no sign of the third. Sooo, dejectedly I grabbed my wedge along with my putter to go search the thick perimeter grass. As I scanned around I decided to do the walk by the cup and futility look to see if it was there. At that moment when I peeked in, the angels began to sing and lo and behold, there was my ball!

Eagle two baby!

Playing in the rain (heavy at times) with some gusting winds. I normally play terrible in the rain with all the rain gear on.  Well, my league round was already blown, as I started triple, triple, double🤬. Stepped up to the par 3, with a front flag.  Wind picked up a bit more as did the rain.  Hit an easy 9 and landed the ball about a foot and a half where it stuck in front of the pin.  Easy birdie and a CTP for me.  Gotta love days when you get that small ray of hope during a round.  And no, the rest of the round didn't get any better as I did make par on a few more holes but was offset by more blow up holes, LOL.

Hole 8, Forest Hills. Should always be a straightforward hole, but I usually cost myself somewhere and double bogey. Not today! Wasn't my best drive of the day but was the most satisfying hole of the day.

Hit a decent drive that left a half SW in to the green. Hit the birdie putt just past as I slightly underread the break. Easy tap in par.

S.O.T.D. came out of 100% frustration yesterday. I hit an 8i into a green from about 130y, yelled "fade" at it and watched it land 10' left of the green. Not a bad place to be, but the lie is horrendous. I try a 56° wedge shot that goes a few yards forward.

Slumped shoulders, drooping head, I approach my ball with the same 56° even though the shot now calls for a 52°.

Completely open stance, facing the flag, I swing 1 handed and hit the ball to within 2". I did not tap it in for bogey. I kicked the ball 40' off the green.

Had 140 in, but had 2 trees in front of me that  made me question how high I could hit my 8 iron…

so I decided to try a fade around. Took an extra club, aimed to opening, and aimed face at the pin- took a smooth swing and dog gonnit if it didn’t fade right out over the cliff of death, and then back in to the flag-

left me a 14 footer birdie which I promptly missed…

How could I forget the other shot of the day..

Hit a crap drive that left me in the bark, 177 to a back right peninsula pin. Decided to give the "para-nine" wood a chance, and she landed 6 feet sort of the pin, and then rolled out to about a 15 foot birdie try. Which of course I missed, but by maybe 1/4 of an inch. I mean that would have been a birdie for the ages..

Isn't one handed shots illegal 😕

I’m a hacker who loves nothing more than to change how I play, be that grips shafts and heads its all fair game lol…

Well, apparently not. Just croquet putting.

It's hilarious you ask this. If you examine that Bushnell app score sheet it wasn't giving me a course handicap because I was at a 9 hole course that lacks ratings in the system.

Edit: that pic was in the how'd you play thread. Here it is, what a thud of a round.Screenshot_20230622_112003_BushnellGolf.jpg.7eeb11805f2fa747613ae9e689d637e1.jpg

Illegal? Probably more illegal to have 2 holes play under 375y and call them par 5.

It wasn't exactly a regulation scoring round.
