I will never forget that game. I smoked cigarettes (only do that when extremely drunk) shot whiskey with strangers, and left quite an impression on my gf at the time (now wife).
The most messed up thing is that one of her friends met a guy for a blind date that night to watch the game. He claimed to be a Leafs fan, so why the hell was he on a blind date on a game 7, I don't know. All I know is that is if I had met a girl for the first time on that night, I never would have called her again.
And it's all somehow Phil Kessel's fault.

Have you ever been to the giant mob scene outside watching the game? Thats gotta be quite an experience.

I graduated high school with Barry.  Really good guy.  Here's a fun fact for you guys.  He wasn't our starting tailback until I think our second or third game of our senior year.  He started because our starter got kicked off the team for fighting.  Our coach was an idiot and the rest his history.  After he won the Heisman they honored him back at our high school.  He asked me if he should go back to college or go pro.  He took my advice!  I lost to him for prom king and it still pisses me off.  He could slam dunk a basketball at 5'7".  I went to U. of Kansas and got to watch him run all over us.  He got the wins but we got the 88 basketball national championship with Danny and the Miracles.  Boom!

I got to see the greatest running back ever when he played for our crappy Lions. Thanksgiving Day with Barry at the Silverdome were some of the best days growing-up. He is my all-time favorite Detroit sports figure, mainly because of his humility.

@GB13 dodging the big blows and sassing it up

 

@Headhammer Sort of in the fight, sort of shadow boxing from the side lines

 

@edingc working the body before going for the big shots

 

@daviddvm throwing a few punches but mainly jabs...

I loved Barry growing up, though I only saw the second half of his career (the Scott Mitchell era). He was smart to leave when he did. Say what you want about cause/effect, but I truly believe the Lions would have been equally as terrible over the next decade even if he doesn't retire right before camp. I'm still somewhat bummed that we had to see Emmitt Smith break the rushing record, not because he was a bad player, but that Barry easily eclipses the mark and sets one that probably wouldn't be touched if he sticks around for at least two/three more seasons.

That's honestly one of the coolest things I've read on the forums. I am 100% a Lions fan only because of Barry.
