Who's your pick for the MGS most wanted test?

The new Callaway double black diamond is an absolute beast and will be hard to beat.  I hope it wins so that I can justify to the wife that I am leaving yards on the table and need to upgrade ASAP!

You think so?  Out of curiosity, what is your swing speed?

I hit it yesterday and thought it was garbage.  It was SMOKED by the G30 and 915, which were smoked by the R15, which couldn't hold a candle to my SLDR. lol

How about this:

1. Pick all winners (1,2,3) from all categories win $1000 cash (Grand Prize - but will be tough)

2. Pick the most winners amongst all entries win driver of your choice

3. Random entry wins driver of choice

Let me know if you like this idea.

I doesn't really matter to be honest, unless you swing them yourself, and get the right shaft, head, loft, length combo the test won't show anything, just like last season. It's nice to know the numbers, but I think it also skews the view of many people, and then they may not even try a club that could actually help them, all because an inbiased review says it's not as good, but if you look at the numbers at the end from 1-10 they are very close. I for one do t like the most wanted test.

I've got to agree with Mike, against my inner urgings not to.   I'm a 105 to 108 SS guy, but the Razr Fit, RFX, and Optiforces all crushed the competition for me and I generally don't like other Callaway products.  The Xhot was also decent for me, along with the X2hot and V series, but I couldn't hit any of the other BB's well.   Drivers are an individual thing I guess and it probably has more to do with the shaft pairing than anything else.   I've never hit a Cobra or Nike driver well and I get reliable but not long results out of Ping and Titleist, so I can't get excited about anything they put forward.   Taylormade gives me some really good and some crappy results mixed together, but I've had so many winners out of Callaway that I just can't ignore them in the future for fear of missing something.

That said, what I really want next is to try that Srixon z545.   Somehow they seem to be coaxing higher ball speeds out of that face for many testers.   But they are soooo hard to find used or even demo.

Cool contest if you can swing it X, sound like fun!

This is a tough one this year.  I picked SLDR last year after hitting it, honestly I think it would still have a chance in this years comp if it was allowed.

High SS:

1. Cobra Fly Z +

2. Cally 815 DBD

3. TMaG R15

Slow SS:

1. Ping G30

2. TMaG Aeroburner

3. Titleist 915 D2

I'm also reserving the right to change my mind if an official contest thread starts :)

I try a bunch of different drivers on a yearly basis and I always seem to get back to Callaway.  My Alpha is not as long as the R1 or SLDR for me, but I have a lot more confidence in it than I did with the other two.  I also agree on the shaft, the Tour AD DI is a great pairing for me in the Alpha head.

Hmm... G30 will be #1 or #2 again. It's a G series. They usually get it right.

Did Srixon send their wares? One of the only newer ones I've hit recently (Z545) and it has been a beast.

If we have a "surprise" category, that just may be my entry.

Just saw the G30 Low Spin version in a Rick Shiels video and it performed MUCH better than the normal G30, which he didn't particularly like.   Neither did I.   Is the G30 LS tec in the MWD test?

  • 2 weeks later...

G30 from what I hear is awesome, but I specifically think it will be the best for the slower swing speeds.

I'm gonna go with the R15 or BB Alpha for higher swing speeds.

For some reason I feel like Bombtech might perform well.

Thanks for throwing us in the mix!

Yes, G30, G30 SF Tec, and G30 LS Tec are all being tested individually.

We have both the 745 and 545 in this year's test. Early returns on the 545 appear (data far from completely analyzed) good with the caveat that slower swing speed players struggle to obtain near-ideal launch conditions.
