It's too early to say what is going to happen, if the wind picks up and it turns colder it can change in a hurry, but there are a lot of guys that played well day one. Should be an interesting next couple of days.

I've been watching for the past hour. Lots of good golf being played. There's very little wind. It could be bad news for the afternoon guys who had some wind yesterday and then get it today. Jason Day may have to kick it in gear to make the cut.

Watched a bit this morning before work, the rain was creating a little bit of havoc for the few minutes I got to watch. I see projected cut is 3 over par, so appears Jday will get to continue on. Looks like Spieth and Watson will be taking a flight back to the states today though. Hope Spieth takes a bit of time off to get his game back in order, as I do like watching him play when he's on.

 

Edit- I see the cut line has moved and for now looks like they get to stay and play after all... silly time zones and me jumping to conclusions!

Well, it looks like the wind came up for the afternoon rounds and has caused some issues, will be an interesting weekend

Its crazy how luck has played into this tournament with the conditions night and day on different sides of the draw. If you were lucky enough to go out late yesterday and early today then you saw very different conditions from the other side of the draw. Low player in the favorable draw is at -10(tourney leader) and low player with the unfavorable draw is -2. 8 shot swing if you look at it that way. Pretty crazy to think about.

Looks like Jordan and Bubba made the cut, barely.  Biggest disappointment of the day has to be Billy Horschel   -4/+14  Everyone has a bad day now and then.

Honestly didn't give a crap. Dude was struggling, he could a cracked a beer for all I care.

Pretty sure Jim Furyk won a tour championship with a backwards hat. I don't remember people complaining about that.

Not a fan of a backwards hat, but there have been times here that I have done it after my hat blew off in the middle of a swing.  When you are playing in weather, it's one less thing you need to be thinking about.  Almost lost my favorite hat in the lake.

In my mind's eye this is more the norm than the exception at the Open. Pace of play is very slow stretching the field out over 14 hours of play. Anyone who lives on the coast knows what that means, dramatic changes in wind velocity and direction based on the changing tides and seabreeze kicking in. Given how narrow the land masses are in the British Isles it's really the perfect storm.

 

My wife complained about how unfair it was as we watched Stricker's struggles with the elements. From my oerspective it's part of the game. If you get the worst of it this year perhaps you won't next year.

 

On another note Day just hit a S..... It reminded me of the first major that I attended back in the mid 80's at Shinnecock. The first shot that I saw was Andy North hitting one of those out of some fescue. BTW as I recall you pretty much had to be on the right side of the draw that year too. The weather on Friday was so bad that Nicklaus lost a ball on 10. No one was out there to see where it landed.

Phil played great and kept the pressure on Stenson all day. This really was one for the record books!

Great tournament for Stenson!  Didn't let up and likely won because Phil pushed him the whole way. Congrats to him.

 

So now we have first time major winners in the first three majors this year.  Will there be a fourth at the PGA??

Probably goes a bit beyond "could" Almost certainly the best ever final pairing in a major, especially when compared to rest of the field. Truly amazing.
