Removing SuperStroke putter grips

Does anyone have any tips and tricks on removing these? I'd like to remove my Slim 3.0 that is brand new, without destroying it. Can't really slide a removal tool down in it like regular iron grips.

I've done a little research on this and haven't dredged up a reliable method. I don't know anything about blowing grips but that may be the last option for this.

Apparently the needle and solvent approach can end up leaking solvent into the foam grip causing a mushy grip.

I've exhausted my knowledge on this topic so I'll bow out to others who have experience with the SS grips.

Personally I use air to pot them on and off so no problem and the 2 I own have been on several putters. Now the ones that have been put on  "wet" with 2 sided tape and solvent  I have not had success with. Now I do not use a needle shooter but I use a tool that you slide between the grip and shaft and pour solvent in. That plastic collar on the open end can be a biotch and it is impossible to slide the tool in. Now I have seen my buddy the Miura dealer shoot them off with a needle and not swell the foam area up. But he is darn good with that thing.

It's really tough to do. Often times the grip gets too saturated with fluid. If you find a good method, I'd be interested to hear as well.

So let's transition this to air compressors, can someone recommend me a good one that's not terribly expensive?

That said, I changed the superstroke grips so many times from one putter to another without any problems. Just have to use a bit more solution. I'd stick the tool in drop the juice then wiggle around and work it down a few more inches then repeat till it get all the way down the bottom. As the matter of fact it's easier than the regular grip.

I bought the "hot dog" compressor (harbor Freight) it does 100 psi it's like 50 bucks, also I would buy the installer nozzle fro pure grips, you can use just the air and bit but it kept pushing through the hole in the grip and it tore the end of the grip, which then makes the air method useless. So I spent the extra and got the pure grips tool.

Do you have a link to the compressor you purchased? I was already looking into that accessory from Pure Grips, looks like it makes things much easier.

I'm using my phone so I can't add the link, go to harborfreight.com and search hot dog air compressor, it's 54.99, but find a coupon and it will be like 45. I bought he pure grips tool from eBay new. It's kind of expensive but with it if you are going to do a bunch of gripping.

Ahh, yeah I saw those while I was browsing last night. Any idea why there are two of the same thing, just different item numbers? No idea what the difference between them is.

I don't see any difference either. I have a harbor freight store about 20 minutes away, so I just go there and get what I need.

Moderate skinny Needle and solvent, push the needle through the grip until you hit the shaft, then inject a little, repeat in a few spots and work the grip around. When the grip twists, you've broken the adhesive.

Or try blowing off with compressor, it it's typical Grip tape, that usually works, if 2 sided carpet tape, solvent's likely the only way.

Unless it's a slick grip, I've found I dont need grip tape on a putter, 1-2 layers of masking tape to thicken and blow it on with compressor. Not usually enough swing torque when putting to shift the grip

I don't use any 2 sided tape on any clubs, I have never had any grip slippage. I use blue painters tape under to build up. I think there are several of us here that use this method. Also since there is no 2 sided tape, removing and replacing a grip takes about 10 seconds.

Say you didn't want any buildup, can you just blow it right onto the shaft, ez pz?

You can, but it's a good idea to tape the end of the shaft.  The bare metal can catch on the inside of the grip and tear it.  I don't think you would notice one layer, and one layer will make it easier to get off.

Yes just cover the end of shaft with some tape it will go on easily, it will also come off easily. I would use at least one layer of tape to simulate a standard grip with 2 sided tape. When I build up my grips I want it to be 2 extra wraps so I put 3 layers of blue painters tape under the grip. 1 layer represents what a "standard" grip would be if I was using 2 sided grip tape. I hope that makes sense.

Makes perfect sense. Say I wanted to build the bottom of a midsize grip to feel like the Plus4 grips, would I just add 4 wraps? Sounds like an obvious answer. Haha.

Also, do you make your wraps around the shaft or vertically up and down with several strips?

I use the 2 in tape and wrap it vertically. If you want to simulate the plus 4 grip you would use 4 under the bottom hand, then put one long piece and leave about an inch past the end of the shaft that will be twisted up and that will help to get the grip on the shaft without damaging the grip. Also, a helpful hint, dip your finger into some liquid, mineral soirits, or if you have it dip it into some grip solvent. Then stick the tip of your finger into the end of the grip just to get some lubrication on the mouth of the grip, that will help you be able to start the grip onto the shaft. It does not take much, just enough to get the tip wet.(get your mind out of the gutter), we are talking about golf grips and golf shafts

I agree, but I never have used any liquid.  The last wrap should be full length, covering all layers underneath.  If you have more layers under the lower hand and don't cover them, the grip can catch on the edges of the tape.

Does anyone have any tips and tricks on removing these? I'd like to remove my Slim 3.0 that is brand new, without destroying it. Can't really slide a removal tool down in it like regular iron grips.

I've had people remove mine. They use a needle to inject solvent into it so it slides off.

I didn't read all responses, so I'm sorry if you already had this answer.
