What a thrilling US Open!!! The event itself (and the surrounding drama) was almost more exciting than the winner. Brooks Koepka grabbed this championship with force as he coasted to victory despite the hard Sunday charge by Fleetwood.

 

The payout amounts are taken from the Golf Digest press release HERE. Anyone who doesn't make the cut is paid out $10,000 for their prize of qualifying to begin with. For the sake of this MGS contest, amateurs earn the same value their professional counterparts would've earned in that spot. A perfect entry for #SpyStaffSlam would've been as follows:

Koepka, Fleetwood, Finau, Fitzpatrick, and Knox for total winnings of $4,374,309

• Only 12, count them: 12, valid entries picked Brooks Koepka for their Tier 1 player. Only one person from that group picked Fleetwood as well....which secured the victory by a large margin.
• Whether Fleetwood made that putt on 18 was irrelevant as his selection was still the backbone to the winners circle. This left 2nd and 3rd place up for grabs to the 26 individuals that picked Dustin Johnson alongside Tommy Fleetwood.
• This is the second straight major that Finau has finished as the #1 player in his tier. Underrated? Maybe. But you can only make ripples for so long before they become splashes. (I know who I'm picking for The Open).
• It was mathematically possible for someone that chose Patrick Reed to sneak into the winner's circle but there were only 8 valid entries in the entire pool that still had faith in THE MASTERS champion. Lots of hate hate hate going on.
• Nobody in the entire pool thought the finish would be over par. This is the US OPEN people!!!!! Par must be protected at all costs.
• Three members got pretty darn close by predicted a finish at even (and were almost correct). This Major's irrelevant award goes to evershady, tommylovesgolf, and echo1dogleg.

2nd Place: CUSTOMIZED Wilson Staff PMP Wedge

3rd Place: 1 Dozen Duo Golf Balls

I thought the same, I was hoping Finau would make a charge since he was a less popular pick. With Henley and Leish both playing poorly on the weekend I think my goose was cooked.
