#CobraCONNECT Challenge 3

Guys, you know I'm struggling with getting the F9 up to a decent height- every drive is low, even switching the weights and it's still low.

it's 10.5* and plays lower than my 9.5* Titleist!!

Playing a medal tomorrow and I've lofted it up to 11.5* as the website says it will add 450rpm's which might get me more 'hang time'

I'll report back tomorrow.

Going into this challenge how much have you guys leaned on the caddie function for shot selection leading up to this?   If the caddie says hit 8 but you hit 6 does it track those shots in which you strayed away from its advice?

I do not look at the caddie function for club selection.

In my experiences with Arccos, the caddie is not able to tell the lie you have (fairway, rough, sand, wet, dry, bare,  ball below or above feet) or the shot type you need to hit (high, medium, low, fade, draw, straight, etc.). It just averages your distances and then spits out a recommendation based on the distance you have remaining to the hole.

So far, I have not seen anywhere that the system tracks if you stray from the caddie advice. For this weeks challenge, we are being golfers and calling penalties on ourselves if we defy the caddie advice.

Thanks Palvord!  A nice function would be to add your spouses voice to let you know when you didn't listen to it.  "I told you you should have hit the 8".  Just when you thought you got away for a few hours then that.

Very little.  We'll get into it more when our reviews of Arccos go up later this week but most of my rounds have been played at my home course where I know 95% of the shots I want to hit before I get to the first tee.

I tried to use it more recently to prepare for this challenge but got annoyed quickly when I would click on the Caddie button only to be greeted with this:

There are different "calculating" messages but this one seems to pop up every time I'm thirsty on the course and the beverage cart is nowhere to be found.  Arccos Knows.

What we're looking for is a total improvement for the group. I just showed my math for explanations sake but you don't have to do all that.

I'm going to guess am improvement of 19.5 for the group. They've all played well this year and I think their improvement for the duration of the challenge is a big one.

 

Congratulations to both @Bucky CC and[mention=84579]edingc[/mention] for their individual wins this week.

Just to clarify this is based on @palvord's comment that it didn't take into account lie/elevation/etc. I think its going to be recommending the wrong clubs than what the guys would hit normally in those circumstances.

I throw out a 9 point improvement for the group. No idea why. Maybe because that is how many toes I have left and can’t count any higher!

This has nothing to do with just this week. FYI. It's the whole 8 weeks of competition worth of improvement based on our baseline handicaps found on the first page of the thread. 

It doesn't have anything to do with the caddie recommendations challenge.

You only have 9 toes. I feel like a story is required after dropping that bomb. Ha

Nothing real exciting. I was operating a directional drilling machine for my previous job. There was a guard missing we didn’t know about and when the drill bit hit a rock the whole machine jumped and my foot ended up where the guard was missing. It couldn’t smash the steel toe but sucked my foot in until it could smash something and actually cut off most of my middle toe. The messed up thing is it barely bruised the other toes. It is the reason I will never wear steel toed boots again. If I didn’t have them on I wouldn’t have lost any toes. So now with that out of the way, back to your regularly schedule programming.

Ouch.

As far as the competition goes this week, how many total penalty strokes does everyone think will be taken? I'll set my guess at three.

I think it's going to be difficult to have none. I was checking out the preview caddie on Arccos and it had me hitting driver, 3W, and PW on the par 5 8th hole. Usually the second shot is above my feet and every time I try the 3W, I hit a horrible shot. I really hope all of you can make it through your remaining rounds without a penalty.
