Good morning you spy, you!

Waking up and not hearing rain is a pleasant ambience I am enjoying this morning. Currently making my way through the morning threads, surprised California golf is not seeing as much love as other states in the great golf states category, but it does excite me to start convincing my fiancé that we need to start travelling more. ("Babe, Wisconsin has cheese!!!" ) 

Was up fairly late last night tutoring a student (I may be one myself but this semester I took on tutoring to broaden my experience). I don't think the guy needed a tutor as much as he just needed to study and I tried to stress that for while, to no avail. 

Anyways, I am going into Precision Golf Centers to hit my driver a few times in prep for the Qi10 test. Will probably stop by the PGASS since it is right there, but I don't particularly need anything.

Nice morning in the Great White North.  Sadly no golf today, but it was a nice warm day yesterday and the same is expected today.  I will hit a sim later today to work on some swing changes.

At least the puppy is enjoying the snow…

Just another day in paradise. Well, someone else's anyway.  Another cool, but sunny morning here in the Central TN Plateau. Rain coming tomorrow, which is a bummer. But warmer temps are coming too, which is nice.

I booked a PXG fitting for the first Friday of May, right before my b-day. It'll be interesting since it's not at a regular PXG store since the closest one is about 3.5 hours away. But the fitter told me he has all the shafts and heads that they would in the store, plus I believe the Fairways and Greens facility in Knoxville looks like it might be an outdoor fitting or at least off a mat into the outdoors so we can watch the flight. It's a pretty cool looking facility with a bunch of hitting bays, an exercise room, some greens and bunkers all in a somewhat compact area in West Knoxville. Wish it was closer as that would be a great place to work on the game.

I highly recommend Fairways and Greens, David Sumilas fit me last year for the Cobra Challenge and was first rate. It was on an outdoor range with Trackman. I think they've also got an indoor fitting area now, but I loved getting fit on grass.

Good Wednesday Morning Spies! 

Another chilly Central Florida morning.  49 degrees at 7am tee time. The lack of wind made for a nice walk for at least 15 holes, then the wind picked up and into us, brrr! LOL.  Putting was still cool today, although shot a 1 over round, ball striking not bad. 

Enjoying a nice HOT cup of Espresso right now. Working from home.  Have a Great Day Everyone! Stay warm!

Good morning! Today has been wild so far, my 1 year old daughter has an eye infection that we're dealing with so I'm trying to work from home with her around. Then we've got the kids' gymnastics tonight. So no time for golf even though it's sunny and 50*+ today! Bummer! Hopefully I can at least get outside to chip around the yard or something.

Never a doubt in my mind that somebody getting wet today earlier than planned. My daughter was no different when it came to water at that age...

I wish they did Srixon. That's high on my list to test out. The PXG fitter is different than David, but I might talk to David while I'm there if he is. I was planning on the local Club Champion there in the area for the "all other" brands fit.

I'm curious where the Loop 9-hole course is that they mention on testing your new clubs out.

It looks like they have an on site par 3 course at the center. I didn't get to check the whole place out when I went for my fitting since I was also visiting my sister. 

I didn't realize they didn't do Srixon, but I was there specifically for Cobra.

Fly from California to Florida for work yesterday. Check. Wake up at 4am in Florida to renew required safety training. Check. Sit for the next 5 hours waiting for the plant to startup. Ugh, check. 

Book tee times for the weekend while waiting. That counts as productivity right?

Good Afternoon Spies!  

I'm a little late posting today, but I'm still drinking coffee so I think it still counts!  

Past few rides into the office I have been listening to the NLU guys (thanks for the reminder @GolfSpy_APH ) and It's been a nice change of pace from local sports radio all about the Red Sox forgetting that they are supposed to be a baseball team and the Patriots having no path forward.

Good morning all! Shot 77 today at the home course from the white tees. 36 putts with 3x 3 putts and a chip in. Along with a terrible driver day did not make for a good round. Swing hasn't felt good the last 3ish times out. Might need to do some drill work.

Can say the back 9 was much better than the front. Hit all 9 GIR just bad proximity and bad putting.

Good afternoon Spies! Settled into my hotel after the drive down from Raleigh, with a little detour to the Cradle of American Golf, with that name bestowed on their devilish little par-3 course designed by Gil Hanse in 2017. Scorecard yardage is 789 yards, par 27. It played at approximately 760 today (forgot to note what the sign said on the sixth tee). Tee time was 10:10; morning players needed to be out of the way for a noon shotgun tournament. I played two rounds and finished at 11:50.

I set several personal records today: Fewest shots over par for 18 (9) and 9 holes (2); lowest 18-hole score (63), lowest 9-hole score (29). And one negative record: Shortest birdie putt missed (4 feet on #3 the second time). There was a "gallery" of about 20 people behind the green, preparing for the shotgun tournament, some of them actually watching me, and the guy in front of me said that audience is why I missed. (The real reason I missed is I pulled the damn putt).

But this is no toothless pitch and putt. As you would expect at Pinehurst, there is lots and lots of sand dotted with scrub, which I only visited once, and the greens are diabolical. Slick, undulating, crowned and hard to read. It was entirely possible to putt off the green if you misread one, and I almost did once. 

I was very happy with my game, particularly the second nine. It's a great way to practice short game (longest hole is 130; I hit over the green on it twice, landing short on a downhill with the ball scooting up to, on and over the green, basically two identical shots). Hit every club in my bag from the 8-i on down, except for my 64-degree wedge, but I would have used that had I visited some of the deeper bunkers. Longest club I carried was the 5-iron; never used it or the 6 or 7.

One amusing note: on my second loop, various volunteers were out on the course getting set up for the shotgun tournament. I encountered one of them, a fellow named Charles, on the 6th tee. He said he'd never played golf, more of a hunter, and he wasn't sure if he could swing a golf club due to an old rotator cuff injury. I told him my RC also is dinged but I swing with no issues. After I hit up on the green (another GIR!), I handed him my wedge to take a swing, and he did so, exclaiming that there was no pain. Then he asked if he could hit a ball, so I tossed him one out of my pocket, and he teed off toward the green. Got there too, but it rolled through the green and off the back. He had a few choice words for Gil Hanse's green design (that one is crowned) after that. Who knows, maybe I just recruited another future Spy. I was pretty impressed with his swing for someone who's never played.

The sign on the starter's hut (below) says there have been 1988 holes-in-one since the place opened 6+ years ago, and one guy made back to back HIOs on 3 and 4 one day. I did not make it 1989, although that shot that led to the missed 4-footer buzzed the edge before settling in 2-putt range for me. (Course record is 18; I didn't threaten that either; nor did I threaten the speed record of 6 minutes, 43 seconds. Yes, 9 holes in less than 7 minutes.)

I'll write a review later on the Golf Courses forum.

Par 3 tracks are so much fun!! As you said heck of a test as well. Back in the day Shell Oil hosted some shows called Shell Wonderful World Of Golf. A local course called Treetops Resort that has 12 championship tracks from Robert Jones, Tom Fazio, Jack Nickalaus, Gary Player and Rick Smith also has a par 3 called Threetops and it was rated #2 in the world for awhile. I stood 12ft away from Lee Trevino and watched him hit 8 iron on this 170 yd gem and drain it to win 1 million dollars!!! Back then that was massive money but the man immediately pledged ALL OF IT to St Judes!!! The par 3 thing brought me back to that day

I think I remember seeing Trevino make that HIO at Treetops on TV! Certainly nothing downhill at Pinehurst to that extent.

Yeah and that's an old school 8 iron 170yds when I play it it's a 9 or PW it's so elevated people see 170 and rip 7 iron and goodbye there is a plaque on the tee box that says Lee Trevino hit an Ace here for 1 mil

My place in Michigan is on a Lake and NOTHING tires out a kid better than water!!! That before bed ensures no wake ups before morning!!! Lucky kids!!

Absolutely!  It's just big enough for them to play and if they really want to swim we can go down to the community pool or the lake.

I remember those Shell sponsored "Shell Oil World of Golf" matches.  Amazingly, those started in 1961 and continued until 2003!  They were played all around the globe and featured the games top players.  In 1969, my dad took me to the Palmer vs. Frank Beard vs. Doug Sanders at PGA National Club (Palm Beach, FL).  I can't even remember who won .

Those were great to watch.  I think they would be fabuously popular today and something the PGAT/LIV/DP Tours should look into as a way to quell the upheaval and add a fun, new twist.

The oil companies aren't sponsoring anything anymore. Races, events and athletes were all represented by them for years but now they don't need the exposure they make so much money its crazy. That is the industry I worked in. So they have done two up my way, the Par 3 shootout had Mickelson and Fred Couples against Jack and Lee Trevino.  Then they did one at Bay Harbor which is a jewel!! Same players except Lee swapped for Hale Irwin

For sure. As soon as I rip out the dining room window and add my door and covered patio it will be great because we can open the door and hear the kids easily.
