Great ball striking day! Only one bogey all day and that was a disappointing three putt. Missed eight putts inside of six feet. This could have been a great round. However, was really happy with the stress free four under!!

After Sunday's blow-up round cleared my system, I went back to the well for a palette cleanser. Overall, I am satisfied with the round. Only 1 3-putt this go round compared to 5 last time out, so that was improved. However, still took 35 putts, which is 5 more than the season average. To counter this, I hit 15/18 GIR so the irons and wedges put in a shift today. Today felt like a better day for the driver. Still missing some distance, but my drives were all straight and wound up where I was aiming, which is a step in the right direction regarding consistency. One other note, that may only interest me: From the green tees on my home course, I am now a +1. So i suppose, I either need to stay with the back tees or find a harder home course. 🤔

Today is the first day in months that I was able to put a decent round together.  I wish I could say it was 100% me!  First, I've continued my experiment of moving forward to the gold/seniors tees.  I can say, the three rounds I've played from there have exceeded my expectations.   It's nice to at least feel like you might be on (or around) the green in regulation.  Number 11 is a good example.  I hit a decent drive and a 156 yard 7 wood to within 2 feet for a birdie.  Normally from the white tees it would have been driver, 5 wood and gap wedge to the flag.    I almost doubled my "normal" greens in regulation.

image.png.2df70e7d6c85962d3d19a5a9d52794e7.png

My fairways hit was good with 79%.  The three I missed were all in the rough but within four feet of the fairway.  The 25 putts today looked better with two 0 putts greens.  I pitched it in on hole number 2 from 23 yards out and putted from just off the green on 18.

Overall, it was great feeling knowing by moving up I would compete with my fellow men's league members on a regular basis.

Bogeyed the first three holes by not having my head in the game. Worked hard to get it back to two under going into 18. Should have hit 3 wood or hybrid off the tee. However, was crushing the driver on the back and decided to go for it on 18. Hit a bomb too far and a bad bounce put me OB. Nice double to bring me back to even…..

A foggy day in Baja, Mexico. It made for a difficult time seeing the ball and finding the flag - a lot of estimating going on as far as distance was concerned. When we got to the ocean holes, the wind picked up and the waves were crashing on the rocks. A couple of times we could feel the spray. The golf was very good for me on this course. I used a shorter driver which helped me keep it in the fairway. I found it gave me better control.

I started off a little bit stiff since the course was closed for 3 weeks (overseed), but I started to loosen up after the first 3. I still had positive strokes gained with putter as well as good iron spin throughout the round.Screenshot_20231020_114826_GolfPad.jpg.e67ea6cd0c4aa6e3b1fd53ba0151ccc0.jpg20231020_094520.jpg.a3f1f25450001ec88a091d762ea9ea25.jpg

Well, I wanted to post a round this week, but this was not a good one. I don’t expect to have a good one. I took a bit of a tumble on Monday, and had to skip golf altogether on Wednesday and just smoked a cigar and drank a couple of beers and watched. No serious injuries but basically just 3/4 swings today.

Except I was a couple of feet from an ace on number 4 today.

Moving forward to the senior gold tees and using my newly found best friend, Maxfli Tour S ball, has seem to have an impact on my scoring and overall attitude.  Through in some professional help with my iron play and I think I'm heading in the right direction.

image.png.a1ca8678d861c893192dc176338903b0.png

I had a decent day hitting fairway on my drives (79%) even with the longer driver shaft I was trying out.  My greens in regulation was up 1-2 more than usual (a positive of moving up to the gold tees).  The 28 putts included one three putt, which was on the second hole when it was still somewhat dark out (sun was just rising over the clubhouse).  The three up and downs could have been better.

The lesson I took is starting to pay off with more solid iron shots.  I just need to keep it up!

I played better than expected today. I made 4 poor shots that cost me dearly, but I also chipped in for a net eagle so it was not a horrible day.

The interesting thing is I thought I putted horribly today  I banged it off the back of the hole at least 4 times and really had to work at getting my alignment right. However, looking at the total putts it was actually pretty good.

Played at noon, weather was cloudy, a cool 49 degrees F, but as the day went on the sun appeared and it actually warmed up to 53 degrees F. We have had much rain, and this course is in a low area of the county and still had many puddles, and a lot of casual water conditions. Not much wind so really not uncomfortable to play in.

Hit 12 of 14 fairways, many tee shots were less than driver so that added to the total, hit 13 of 18 greens, and 2 putted each green, more due to them not being cut and some aeration.

Longest drive 252 yards, all carry and slight wind behind me.

Tomorrow is supposed to be similar temperatures, but more sun, and I have another round at another course scheduled then.

Played my second round this weekend earlier today. Tee time was 12:00PM noon, and weather was 48 degrees on the first tee, but the sun came out and it made it to 53 degrees by the time we finished. Played very well, a lot of leaves made fairways and greens paramount to not only scoring but also having any hope of finding your ball. A lot of pictures posted here, as Jason @sirchunksalot seems to love the changing colors of the trees that the fall season brings.

Shot a 75 with 1 natural birdie on hole 10 where I stuck a PW from 118 to about 3 feet and made the putt.

Hit 9 of 14 fairways, those missed were not too far off or bad except for a left miss where I had to punch out leading to a bogey on the par 5 11th hole.

Hit 14 of 18 greens, so irons were dialed in too, and a long drive of 274 (wind aided).

Hoping to get more rounds in here, as long as the temperatures stay above 40 and the precipitation stays away.

Plus driving day, but my short game has suffered from cutting down my playing frequency to once a week.

My worst score at this course this season. 41 putts with 6! 3-putts.

Finding a way to turn birdies into bogeys since 1992. #TeamChunks

First hole tee boxes looking at the 9th hole.

PXL_20231022_095925563.jpg

6th hole par 5. Look back at landing zone and towards tee box. The tee box is to the left in picture of the building. To the right in picture is the 3rd hole, which is another par 5.

PXL_20231022_095928908.jpg

Alternate view towards the green. Very sloped and extremely tricky shot. What isnt in photo is to the right is a massive tree in the middle of the fairway.

PXL_20231022_102408652.jpg

Look back at 7th hole on the right which is a 180 yard ish par 3. Standing on the 8th part way down the fairway (looking back towards teebox). The 8th is a stupid difficult hole. Split fairway. OB where the train is. To the right in photo is rough and the best spot.

Didnt take photo of the other section, but you must get your 2nd shot to about 70 or 80 yards to have a clear shot at the green. Which is elevated about 40 feet. Anything further back means you need to go over trees blind and up to the green (which is jsut what I did haha).

PXL_20231022_104242841.jpg

Look from green back on the 9th hole. Simpler shot for tee and green is tricky. Not a driver hole!

PXL_20231022_104838435.jpg

Look at the 10th hole. Par 3, 170 yards up hill to a tricky green. Made a wonderful birdie 🙂

PXL_20231022_121546491.jpg

This is a larger view of most of the back 9. You see the 11th green, 12th fairway, 16th green all from the 17th tee box.

Gonten is a unique course. A lot of elevation changes, hardly ever a great flat lie and when there is normally means you are short sided. There are countless blind tee shots or approach shots and the course does a very good job not taking driver out of a golfer hands, but making it a key for accuracy. The 2nd hole is one of my favorites. From whites the fairway is only about 150 yards away. However being a dog leg right the further you go left the better you are. However from the tee box there is a old swiss cabin right in the way of the ideal line. So if you want to take that line, better be going over that building from a low lying tee box. And even if you do go over there are 3 bunkers lying in wait. Want to go long... well there is OB long as well as further left.

This place is quirky and tricky. It has been a fun course and with a lot of OB it has kicked my bottom more than once by making simple mistakes.
