Fun day with family and friends.  3 three somes played (not well) but was great to get together. Front fairways are super tight and not a straight put to be had.

The longest par 5 in San Antonio got me...I DESPISE the snowman, but it happened on hole #2. I also hit a ball OB on 9 and wound up shooting 46 on the front. On the 10th tee box, I vowed the back 9 would be in the 30s and I pulled it off with 6 pars and 3 bogeys for the 39.

Not my best round, but I left the course feeling good ahead of my upcoming South Texas Am Tour tournament to be played there Sunday.

There was a bit of pent-up demand to play golf today as the weekend was pretty much washed out when Debby passed to our west.  We were fortunate compared to most communities impacted or that will be impacted with Debby's remints.  Hang in there and we'll be thinking of everyone impacted!

Overall, I had a pretty good round today.

image.png.51e0a9477210c40ec5ad64d1bf115f27.png

After starting +6 after the first six holes, I rallied the rest of the way.   In reality, it could have been a few strokes better as I left several putts on the lip.

It wasn't my best driving day.  I was nursing a sore left knee and proceeded with caution.  My 188 yard drive sounded fairly good.  What isn't on the scorecard was it was defiantly cart path aided.   Overall, my driving distance and accuracy were a little off.

Greens in regulation was decent for me at 17%.  The seven up and downs for pars went along with another five up and down one putt bogeys that could have been worse.

The 27 putt day could have been better.  I did have a disappointing three putt on a par 3.

I know that it's not the best idea to take demo clubs out on the course with hitting them at the range.  However, I couldn't resist trying out the demo Sub70 single length 699V2 six and nine irons.  I hit the nine iron on our first par three...right into the water.  Not the best start!  Throughout the round, I had the chance to hit both again with better results.   In general, I hit them with a higher trajectory, maybe a yard of two shorter and with pretty good direction (given they were not fit to me).  They might be something I'll be investing in!

I was pleasantly surprised with today's round

This was a round that felt like I played way worse than the score reflected, so overall not too disappointed. Short game wedges cost me 4-5 strokes and two par putts burned the edge. Getting closer, just need to work more on the wedges 70 yards and in.

Not sure if this counts towards the league, but I played the front nine twice. The course was so backed up and we were playing a twilight round. We slipped back to the front nine and ended up play the 9 in less than an hour!

This is my 3rd time breaking 80 and lowest gross score, but can I count it if I didn't play the full 18? Let me know what you guys thinks.

it's such a challenging hole .... can be 600+ pending which tee, narrow fairway with a pond in play (which isn't really visible from the the tee) where you could land driver, constant dog leg right entire hole, slopes to the right and into the trees if any 2nd shot to too close to the right , trees existing along the left side where the 2nd shot comes into play, couple bunkers to around the green

I debate with myself all the time how to play this hole.

  • Get after it with length and hope to have a short iron, maybe even  wedge into the green for a 3rd shot.....assuming the first two shots are solid
  • Take the pond out of play and be short of the water, and hit the longest and safest possible 2nd shot to have a long iron/hybrid fairway wood into the green for a 3rd shot

But safe approach doesn't guarantee quality execution. This hole is an adventure every outing at this course.

The water got me (the tee box was up…I prefer it when it’s back even if it’s 650+ yards), then the creek got me on the 2nd shot, then the giant bunker got me as I had no angle from where I had to drop from the creek shot…it was a true mess. I hope to play it better Sunday.

The weather was beautiful from August.  It was in the upper 60’s when we started. It was refreshing after playing in 90 degree heat the past month. I played combo tee today. I was playing with a friend that is older and he plays combo tee. For the sake of pace of play I played those tees also. You still have to hit the ball, may ball was in different positions than from the regular tees I play. I probably should have scored better, but I only had 1 birdie putt fall.  I had the kiss of death on the practice green, my first 2 putts went in from 20’. I knew I was in trouble with putting after that.

Last day of summer for my youngest, so I snuck out while the clan was sleeping to get in a round before we head out to the boardwalk…

IMG_3359.jpeg.f4e1c90af9ba621fcdf488b8e2cb3f2a.jpeg

my swing and setup felt really good today.  2 hours 45 minutes and the weather was great.  Had two oops moments which resulted in bogey both times.  Otherwise I was on track for my best round ever.  Even on the front and ended up 4 over on the back.  Had two birdies lip out on 14 and 15.  On the 16th pulled my driver horribly left, punched an 8 iron to try and get back in position, caught a branch went straight down….gap wedge into the green, had 31 feet to the pin and rolled it IN!!!!

Birdied the first and last, total crap in between. My instructor of 30+ years moved away recently, so of course my game goes totally south immediately.

Pretty sloppy after the visit by Little Debby. All bunkers were full of water. Fairways & Greens drained well. However it was Cart Path Only and my legs are flat worn out. Wore my Puma high top shoes today to strengthen my left ankle…..did okay. Shot 47/40:87

First round today since I hurt my back. Wife told me to take it easy. I actually decided to go back to the basics and be more deliberate. Tweaked my grip and setup. Had to swing more efficient because of my back. Man did that workout! Sorry @Preeway should have had this round last week! Blue tees, rating 69.1 and slope 123. Had a clean card. Hit 13 fairways, 14 greens and had 27 putts. What a great afternoon!

Play like a champion today!

Glad to hear the back is feeling better. We had a great ham and egg scorecard last week and it worked out perfect.

It’s getting there. I was walking like an old man all evening during the round. It hurt at times, but slowing down really made a big difference. Went back to the basics.

Let me begin by acknowledging the overwhelming length of my drive on #7. I have no idea how it happened but on a 425 yard par 4, my drive stopped darn near pin high. Sure, the fairway was firm but this had to be the luckiest bounce(s) of all time. Everyone was just staring at me and the ball, lol. Had to soak it in because this will never happen again. Sadly, the rest of my game was a little erratic and too many bogeys, and a double, kept my score above the 80 mark. Playing 36 tomorrow so we will see if I can put it all together in the morning.

You are so correct Sir! My wife likes to ride  along in the evenings when we play. She has a drink and watches us. She asked why do you play so fast you can’t go anywhere. Slow down a few seconds. Well it finally hit home. The lesson from the person that doesn’t even play, ha ha!

Tuesdays nine was off the back shot a 46. Some off putting but even worse driving. Hit range after and realized I was hitting down with driver.
Thursdays nine was off the front and shot a 44. Driver better today and putting was great. One triple and one double killed this from Bering a really good nine. The front usually gives me challenges so this was nice to see. Hit range after with driver since distance was shorter. I was overdoing hitting up and was hitting low on the face. Need to now calibrate my arc depth better to raise the strike. Shot of the day today was on 7. After a tee shot into a green side bunker I got out and nearly holed it. Settled for the tap in par. IMG_1233.jpeg.b6e449c9b373858037320e53a05dc2d4.jpeg

The water got me (the tee box was up…I prefer it when it’s back even if it’s 650+ yards), then the creek got me on the 2nd shot, then the giant bunker got me as I had no angle from where I had to drop from the creek shot…it was a true mess. I hope to play it better Sunday.

an adventure every attempt ... best of luck on Sunday
