I was watching some you tube videos and came across Elite Fit golf, he did comparisons for the wedges and also has another video for the driver counter balance.

Didn’t watch the video…does he give you recommendations on how much weight to add?   I have always seen it as a trial and error kind of approach.

He completed 3 tests, the standard wedge, then with a 25gram weight in the butt end and finally a 50 gram weight. When counterweighting it reduces swing weight from say a D2 into the mid C's for the 25 gram the swing speed increased, yards increased and dispersion got tighter, for the 50gram, it changed the swing weight into the low C's decreased the clubhead speed a touch, gained more yards and dispersion was even tighter.

** even though the weighting made the swing weight get lighter the actual club was heavier. **

The weights I purchased go through the grip, you buy a little tool almost like a hole saw, cut the grip and the weight goes in and you tighten it down, he changed his by removing the grip with air and then replacing it with air.

Interested in hearing your report. I am guessing you went with 25 gr since that worked for the guy in the video.  I  know they come in lots of different weights so I was just curious how you came up with your specific weight number.

I did, they have a chart on their website to help you decide, I was between weights so I went with the heavier weight for the irons and got a 40gram weight for the driver.

If you get sometime check out the video, I been following him for a while. I used to make and repair clubs a long time ago and now been wanting to get back into it. First time adding the counter balance weights to my own clubs.

Last year brought on a Ping 430 Max H/L driver, T300 iron set, TM Hi Toe 4 56 degree wedge and a few putters [ mostly Scotty Cameron ] bought to refinish and some of those will be sold to fund my golf addiction. 1 putter was bought at a bargain of FB marketplace to resell for profit but I screwed up and took it to the course and now the Scotty Cameron Golo S is my game, This is my 1st center shafted putter so I dont know if its the center shaft or the whole putter and I am scared to mess with it lol.

They feel *amazing* and I actually really like the feel of the heavier heads! I game Maltby DBMs but may switch to these after I regrip them, and instead send my Callaway XRs to Tampa. Still debating!

If you decide to reshaft them also, I suggest the Dynamic gold in your flex (standard version/ not lite), game changer for those irons. Keep in mind they have a tapper tip .355. When I changed mine I bought the shafts so I only have to trim about 1/2in off each. lol that was 30years ago.

Buying things scratches the winter golf itch somewhat.  Here are a few recent purchases.

First, I bought grips, ferrules, and stickers for a refurb project I am working on.
IMG_5621.jpeg.590db7f2ac4e6c438d9f2bfbe153b9dd.jpeg

I also bought a joke putter online.  Check out the gold shaft and grip on this thing!   I would show you the putter head, but this is a family-friendly site.  Suffice it to say there is an engraving on the putter labeling it as “UNIQUE D”.  (Yes, in all caps.)

Did some research and liked the 902s but don’t like oversized. I talked with NL and they recommended the PDs that are being phased out. I almost went with Takomo but decided that their shaft selection wasn’t really what I wanted. I am a fan of Project X so I’m trying the IO shaft. They’re a mid flight shaft unlike my favorite LZ shaft. Anyway, I’ve been wanting to try the IO and the price was right so I pulled the trigger.

I have it set up just behind the photo.  It sits right below my patio with about 4 feet to spare for distance.

Wife wants to learn golf as well so I am going to build a 4x10 platform for the hitting mat and get a second one.  That way the tees are lined up in the center and left or right handers can still hit from the middle.

Yep.  Now sold by Boccieri golf who made the heavy putters.  I have tried them before and I don’t recall it doing much for me, but that was well before I knew about launch monitors and taking a deep dive into understanding all this stuff 😂. That was part of the reason I asked about weight selection because these grips have 16g weights and I don’t see it as  a one size fits all kind of thing.

He actually put a wooden dowel in the butt end drilled it out and poured lead into it then added the grip over top.

Okay this is a huge rabbit hole that is hard to get out of once you step in but just to add to the conversation.

I tried a set of the XXIO X irons at a golf shop last year. Had no plans to buy them because I thought XXIO was made for people with slower SS but thought what the heck, and these were... different. They just felt, I dunno, right. Like when you try on a shoe and you know it's the right fit. So I bought them.
I did some research and realized these were counterbalanced. Sounds like the idea is to move the balance point around. For me it helps with the feel of the club; like there's not a ton of weight in the head with none in the grip.

Again - a big rabbit hole and a lot of trial and error and it doesn't work for everyone.

This is from the golf digest article about them:

Quote

The key to both getting what they want are designs where the club’s overall weight is counterbalanced toward the grip end. This raising of the balance point aims to bring about more potential for clubhead speed and increased control.

It’s about redistributing the weight of the entire club, said Jeff Brunski, vice president of research and development for Cleveland-Srixon-XXIO. By reducing the weight of the shaft and then moving that saved mass to the butt end of the club in the form of brass and rubber weights, Brunski says the balance point on the XXIO clubs is now higher than any other lightweight club on the market. It’s what the company is calling Weight Plus.

“Usually taking weight out of the shaft ends up pushing the balance point farther away from the hands because it’s difficult to thin out the tip of the shaft and keep it durable,” he said. “Weight Plus involves making a small tradeoff in club weight to gain a large benefit in balance point height. It’s a big step forward in making golf clubs which are easier to swing and it’s uniquely effective for generating speed and consistency for moderate swing speed players.”

Brunski offered that lighter clubs don’t always result in faster or better swings, in part because they may not be as easily controlled by average golfers, particularly those with moderate swing speeds. Instead of focusing on the concept that given the same effort a lighter object can be moved faster than a heavier one, the new XXIO lineup of Eleven and XXIO X focus on how it might be best to make faster speed most efficiently and consistently achieved.

“In short weight plus promotes a better swing,” Brunski said. “Due to the physics of the counterweighting most moderate swing speed golfers are able to get their hands in a better position at the top of the backswing more consistently. Counterweighting is going to have a positive effect in the position your hands can get in the backswing. The easiest way to think about it is the swingweight in these products is now lighter than it was in the previous generation. That makes it easier to hold the club in this correct cocked position.

“Weight Plus involves making a small tradeoff in club weight to gain a large benefit in balance point height,” Brunski said.
