That happened to me while in college. Came out of the track on an extension ladder. Ended up with 35 stitches in my face, broken ribs, concussion and a busted wrist. They're dangerous contraptions.

Ladder falls rank about 6th on the list for major trauma at the hospital I work at, and moving up the list.

 

The mortality rate for ladder falls in the over 70 age bracket is frightening, young people don't fall as often, and manage to break their fall with something other than their head or spine. A large percentage of older ladder fall victims don't make it home, or have greatly reduced quality of life.

 

Hope you recover well MGoBlue, and you old blokes, keep off those ladders. Much better to pay a professional to do a job.

That really is a major part of it, and a reduction in core strength makes it easier to overbalance, and harder to get your body into a less vulnerable position.

Today's update: Finally was able to meet with an orthopedic trauma surgeon today. (Here's hoping the only place any of y'all meet such a person is a golf course, bar, or airport.) To my eternal surprise, he told me that he did not recommend that I have surgery to repair my heel. I was stunned, frankly. This was the first time I had seen my x-ray or CT scan, and it wasn't as bad as I had prepared myself for. So, hopefully I'll be fully mobile by late March/early April and hopefully playing golf soon after. To say I am relieved is the understatement of this millennium.

How's the recovery going? Great news no surgery required.

 

Hopefully at a month in the pain should be reduced greatly, just make sure you don't overdo things just because it feels a bit better.
