Your Height & Putter Length?

6'2" | 33"

I learned how to putt using a training aid that wants your eyes directly over the ball. As a result, I stand pretty close to the ball and can get away with a shorter shaft. My neighbor has an off-the-rack putter at 35" and I've noticed that his first putting motion is to pick the putter straight up (uncomfortably so) or else it'll drag the ground for a good 12-18." He really needs to get fit 🙂

Static height has nothing to do with what length of putter will work best for you. I'm 5'11" and game a 33" putter. I got here by testing various lengths, head shapes, and grip sizes. I found that 33" gets my eyes where they need to be above the ball and promotes a more consistent stroke.

When I used the word "above" it was in reference to the vertical axis not the horizontal axis.

My eyes tend to be either just inside or maybe just a touch on top of the ball - it's a position that I've found to produce results for my stroke.

Understood what you meant.   Wanted to see if you would say that you are supposed to putt with your eyes over the ball.  Many people seem to believe that it is a requirement for proper setup.

5’7” and all my putters are 33”. Just put a new golf pride grip on an old Slotline mid mallet. Think I’ll put it in play for awhile. The top of the putter has a small slot in it that you line up over the ball before you swing.

My wife stole the Slotline from our pro's bag when she broke her Slotline!  He found another one.  Then she met an LPGA teaching pro who gave her 3 more Slotlines, including a mid mallet.

5' 11" I use a 32 inch putter.

That’s the possibility the shortest I’ve heard of, especially at your height.
I was told by a Pro “closer to the ball you are comfortably are the better”.

5’ 10” and have putters from 33” to 35”. I use whatever I feel comfortable w that particular stretch. Right now 35” and choke down on grip.
I know sounds inconsistent but works for me.

I would agree with that, as long as your back holds out.

I putted much better when I went from a 34" to 32" putter.  BTW, it was a ladies putter and it was pink.

I bend pretty far over. It just feels right. My putter was 35" and I cut it down this year. I also have the fattest Super Stroke they make on it. It's odd, but comfortable.

I found it in a used putter bin at Golfsmith.

I have found that most golf shops don't carry putters less than 34", so it's hard to walk in and try out shorter putters.  I think a lot of people buying a putter without getting fit end up with a putter that is too long, and then struggle putting.

5'11 and I believe a 34" ..never went back to get fitted for the putter but I used to play a 35 and figured an inch wouldn't matter bc I grip down a bit on the putter. I also switched from blade to a mallet and so far really loving it

6'5" tall and use a 35" putter.  I've experimented with various lengths and the 35" seems to the sweet spot for me.  Eyes over the ball, comfortable address, arms hanging naturally.   Key words are sweet spot FOR ME.   Limb and torso lengths all will have a bearing.  Even what eye is dominant will affect how you should set up to the ball and affect posture.  I've found shorter shafts to position my back right in the sore spot, meaning if I play a lot of holes or start to get tight, a shorter shaft puts me having to be in the range of motion that is in that hurt or tight zone.

This Ping fitting manual is pretty dang awesome.  Page 50 starts the section on putter fitting.  Says putter length should be determined by Height, wrist to floor and posture. It has explicit directions for fitting.

This is a great resource. Says I should be using a 31" putter.

I am 6', but have short arms (37" wrist to floor) so that puts me at 35.5" - however, i address the ball in a relaxed/crouched stance, so that takes me back down to 34.5" which is exactly where I feel most comfortable

Found an interesting statistic from Hireko: "Statistically, the average WTF measurement is 48.9% of the person’s height"

I am below the predicted value:

  • Predicted Wrist to floor (based on height): 31.785"
  • Actual: 30.5"

I think if you are below the predicted, then means your ares are longer than average? I think for me, its not actually that my arms are long, its that my legs are short.

Could be a combination of short legs and long arms.  For me, I am 6 ft with short legs, long torso and short arms, so my wrist to floor is larger than average

Nope, just standard length.  Was fit at True Spec and while a static fitting might put me in in a very slightly longer shaft, my swing dynamics and impact numbers keep me in standard.
