The bigger issue has been my father-in-law who lives with us. He's been complaining about back problems for about 6 months now. About 2 weeks ago he sat down with my wife and I and told us what was going on. Initially they found a small lump on one of his lungs back in November. Another test in March showed that the lump grew in size, and while waiting for his insurance to approve a biopsy, he finally had enough and went to the ER over the weekend. They did another X-ray and a CT scan and now there are multiple lumps on his lungs, a few of which are pressing into his ribs, which explains the back pain. Long story short, obviously the ER can't diagnose it with certainty, but lung cancer is the most likely explanation. So from what I hear, the next step is getting a referral to an oncologist and going from there. Obviously my wife is pretty messed up over this, even to point of feeling guilty about things like times she didn't go to lunch with her dad on a day off or something because she already feels that there is limited time left now. So that whole situation has thrown our daily lives for a loop, and we are trying to manage the situation as best as we can, but it's probably going to have some significant impacts on daily life.

Yuck for the fleas, triple yuck for your FIL.

I've been on the medical side of what is happening with your FIL, and it's an extremely uncomfortable conversation to have with anyone. Hoping it's not too late to help him; I had one case in particular that it was already too late.

Friday I played and greens were great. Sunday, I needed a sledgehammer to get to the pin. I asked my son (works at the course) Did they raise the decks on the greens mowers? Yes, because it is getting warmer, and they don't want to burn up the greens. They have Bent Grass greens and we are to far south for Bent. 

This happened to me last year at Pinehurst. Their greens are good and fast mine were already slow. I must have been 8' past the flag for two days!

Congratulations on the posting milestone! That first 1,000 is a monster (unless you're @Josh Parker or @Rob Person)and the rest come easier after that. It's been a pleasure getting to know you.

Boy, do I hate the aeration times of the season. Big holes take a week or two to heal. Why can't they schedule the aeration when it's a travel week for me? How inconsiderate .

Funny how I sometimes think I am the only one who hears the same thing the same way   is that in the How To Be A WIfe handbook? 

Aeration is fine as long as they put sand on the greens to fill up the holes when they've plugged them (funny when I plug a tire there is never a hole left in it, just saying how using slang can be so misleading) and my course gets a higher Stimpmeter reading after aeration than before.

Our course puts sand on the greens and the next day it is mostly all gone.  Sand doesn't stay in the holes with 10-25 mph winds with higher gusts.  You would think they'd look at the weather forecast before plugging!

They don't report on stimp:  https://kingsmillagronomy.com/   Most courses don't report on green speed. 

I haven't played the River course in a couple of years and I am not a good guesser of stimp readings.  I would say they are typically fast with lots of subtle breaks.    Bent grass greens.

Royal New Kent is maybe a touch slower but with more slope and bigger greens.    Bermuda greens.

My schedule allows a little more flexibility than most. Not all days, but enough. Plus I have really enjoyed this community and getting to know so many.

Good news, bad news today. Good news is that my course has been close for 3 days and reopens tomorrow! Bad news is they were closed to punch and verticut the greens, so it's gonna be a rough couple weeks! I'm a member so I can't really afford to play another course in the meantime so I'll be suffering through it.

At our course, they use the smaller aeration holes, then immediately top dress with green sand and roll them.  As soon as the roller leaves the green, the sprinklers are on to water the greens.  The greens are puttable and roll well, within 20 mins. Within a week, the greens are looking great!

Since your son is working at the course… May be he can set the pin locations to your favourite spots.  Could help you achieve your PB for the course one day this Summer!  You got to take advantage of these things while you can….

Good morning everyone! 

I'm finally sitting in the parking lot in my own car and not driving the wife's SUV. It's weird as I feel I'm sitting lower to the ground than I was, imagine that. 

It's going to be rainy the next couple of days so I don't think golf is in my future. They cancelled our Saturday work (yay!), so my wife immediately stated "you can help with yard work!" (Boo!).

Morning all!

By far the best golf day of the season, weather-wise. The early morning was a clear, windless day, and my game was better than usual, so I’m a pretty happy soul about it. Will post on VCT.

Ran an errand afterward and took the back road home. The rapeseed crops are in full bloom. It’s really the best part of spring around here.

Good Wednesday morning all!

As expected yesterday was a busy work day with new fun errors found including a report that somehow disappeared despite being tested and deemed ready to go. So I get to add it to the list of things that need to be done as soon as possible. At least today the weather will be crummy so I won't want to be outside while I toil away.

Did get out for a run at lunch and it was absolutely gorgeous with just a few clouds in the sky. The kids went on a hike and had and absolute blast. Great to see them getting into the outdoor activities.
