Under normal conditions for you, what club are you taking to get to the green at 150? Distances are relative and it really doesn't matter, but we are curious to know and hear from you!

I’m hitting a nice and easy 8 iron. That should get me +/- 15 feet from my target as long as I hit the ball as expected.

If I really catch a 7-wood it goes about 160. I don't often really catch it. And a 5-iron (my longest iron) will go about 150 if I really tag it (same deal here). All too often my driver only goes about 150...

Stock 9-iron is 150-155 yards depending on ball position and grip. Its actually one of my most confident shots in my game as it is typically the one I hit most.

My 6 iron has 150 carry.  It will get me to the green, but will it stop?
If I'm playing my local Donald Ross course I'll go 7 iron all day.  Going past the pin on those turtle back or back to front sloping greens is a recipe for extra strokes

Normally it's an 8 iron. I just got new blades and I think I am getting a bit more out of them in the 2 rounds I've played with them so far. It seems like my 9 is getting 145+

My go to up to this point in my golf career is my 7 iron. I am noticing, however, that I'm starting to overshoot my targets around 150 with the 7 and have been experimenting with my 8 iron as well. My vote is for my 7 iron, but as I'm progressing and hitting better shots, I'm finding I'm stuck at times thinking I have to swing lighter with my 7 or grab my 8 and swing with more "enthusiasm."

I'm loving figuring this game out!

I would say it's between an 8 and a 9 iron for me. 9 iron in perfect conditions, probably a knockdown 8 otherwise.

I've only ever owned this set of irons: if that's what you mean. They are 2015 TaylorMade Speedblades.

If you mean switching back and forth between the 7 and 8... it's almost a crap shoot at this stage for me. If I hit my 7 pure and get good compression, I can send it 160+. But, I don't always hit flush (surprise, surprise) so it leaves me with that quandry. Going to practice again tonight and work more with my irons.... only way to keep getting better!

Reason I asked is all the new irons tend to have such jacked up lofts and oddly enough it seems many don't know that and I chuckle when having a beer at the club I overhear a group of guys in there 50s or 60s stating how their swings are really coming around and where they used to hit 6iron they cam reach it now with 8 🤣🤣 I don't say a word

The correct choice is a smooth 8 iron but I could get a 9 iron there if I really give it. So my ego says 9 iron

Looking at the responses so far, I'm an outlier!  150 yards is my 7 wood.  That's at sea level of course.

What's that, a 9 iron at altitude?  Only kidding (and wishful thinking)!

... Depending on pin and conditions, that is a normal 8 iron for me. When between clubs or having any doubt I take more club unless there is trouble long. I have found more often than not, and like most Am's if I always take a perfect distance club, I can come up short far too often. It is rare for me to take plenty of club and go over the green, just past the pin and that's the way it should be. When you are not pin high you should be a little short 50% of the time and a little long 50% of the time.

... I know some will say all the trouble at their course is long and we have two holes just like that where long runs off the green and into a tough spot or through a fence/into the woodsy desert area, but I am talking a normal shot to a normal green and a mid pin placement. I play with far too many that hit one shot pin high and all the rest are short. In fact this was the final piece of the puzzle to get me to a + index. Just taking more club whenever there is any doubt. My thought process changed from "7 iron should get me to the pin or just a little short" to "7 iron should get me to the pin or a little long".

9 Iron, 42º "old" loft style.  This is when I need 150y, not a yard more (without a more than aggressive swing)....but depending on the day (wind, elevation, etc.) it can be a PW down to a 6iron....

Typically I'd go with a smooth 8 Iron. 9 iron with a nice pure strike would do it for me, but I'm not known for having the most consistent ball striking😄
