How'd you play?

Was able to squeeze 9 in last Sunday. Shot a 47. 1 birdie, but 4 doubles, swing felt better around 5th hole. Putting wasn’t there either, 19 putts. Granted it was cold, but I honestly feel like my game has turned the corner. (Who doesn’t, right?)

First 5 holes even Par not awesome but got up and down OK, should have stopped after 5. Couldn’t hit the ocean if I was standing in it. Lost 2 balls and looked like a freakin windmill out there.
But there was breakfast

I think you are all about the same age.

... in '72 I was working at the ECU campus radio station. In '73 I started getting paid and working at the radio station in Greenville, WOOW or as we called it Big Wow 13! Then I started bouncing to bigger markets like Ashboro NC, Athens Ga, Columbus Ga, Philly and then Chicago. Lots of what is now called Classic Rock every day so all those One Shot artists are permanently engrained in my memory. I can't remember what TV shows/movies I have been in without looking at my resume but I can remember ThunderClap Newman did Something In The Air or Marmalade did Reflections Of My Life. LOL, completely useless information that I will never need. Although I don't regret having the lyrics in my head because 70's music was all about peace, love and making the world a better place and I still find comfort in that message.

Played yesterday here in vacation in Texas. Was fun hitting some balls on the range before the round. Really working on feeling the club shallowing out. Also worked on the weight drill while I was at the gym in the morning.

On the course I hit some really solid shots today... But the old stuff really does a number trying to sneak in. I've gotta focus on that feeling of the shallowing... And a slow practice swing beforehand helps.

I had a 315 yard drive in a par 5, and then a 225 yard 4 iron onto the green. 2 great shots. But i hit some really poor shots that were a mix of a lot of different movements.

The focus remains on my drills and I'll continue to keep that going.

Seems many courses are closing down for a couple weeks back home, so I won't be playing for a while. Plenty of time to practice.

Shotgun started today on #17. I hit a drive with a small fade, then striped my 3W dtm, then dropped a 9 iron 3 feet from the pin, making the putt for a birdie. Great start for the day, Shot 41/41:82 and took home 3rd Place today! Hit my new irons (Wilson D7) very well today.

Getting in a lot of golf this week so here are my last couple rounds.

Navy Marine Friday 9 - actually 17, which I couldn't finish cause we ran out of day light

38 - I was at 74 heading to 18, but I lost my tee shot in the dark

FIR 2/7 (29%)

GIR 3/9 (33%)

14 putts - Four 1 putts and I was at 29 putts heading to 18

12ish hours later...

Kaneohe Klipper

94 (49/45) - I was striking the ball fairly well, but my aim was off all day so it was a sloppy round.

FIR 3/14 (21%)

GIR 6/18 (33%)

37 putts - Two 3 jacks, and overall I just putted poorly.

Nice round!!  I made double with a 4-putt about 10 years ago in our club championship on the 5th hole.  I remember it well.  I can't remember any 4-putts since, so I guess I haven't had any.  My trick is not playing any course with big, sloping, fast greens.

I was on the bottom of a 2 tier green about 40 feet away,   first putt didn't quite get up the hill, didn't hit the second hard enough and just made it to the top of the hill,   missed the 6 footer, and then tapped in for double 🙂

I know the feeling. I did a 5ver, yup 5 putt on a similar green that you were on. My only defense is it was at the beginning of my golf experience and I’ll remember that forever. It was a 7, drive, approach and 5 putts...real smooth.

My course has 4 greens like that... 3 are somewhat steep.  I've 3-putted them many times!  I feel like I made a birdie when I 2-putt!!

... I played Mystic Dunes in Orlando and absolutely hated their greens because it seemed like every one of them had fabricated mounds and/or tiers. And not just one or two, multiple mounds and tiers on every green. Nothing is more frustrating than hitting a good drive and a great iron shot to 6 feet and then having to be very cautious trying to protect against a bogey. I played with a high index guy and his wife that loved the greens and said he always struggles on every green so these give him an excuse. He also really liked playing with better players and watching them 3 putt. LOL, that is about the only reason to play those kinds of greens.

Wet track, so we weren’t really keeping score, but rather working on my new swing, “the Rahm” hehe

being a chubby fellah with glasses, a long backswing just causes endless problems.

but having strong forearms and wrists (longtime drummer) I can still generate good pop with a short backswing. We’ll stick with it till something else happens, but for now, it’s working especially with irons

Annual Mulligan’s Cup, two person scramble today. Mulligans is the Irish Pub at our Club. We had 26 teams with 7 under the winner. My team finished 3 under, But with no bogeys! So we finished about 6th place out of 26......not too shabby.

My week of golf ended with a round at Mamala Bay. The second hole is pictured below 😎.

IMG_1390.JPG

82 (43/39) - I got off to a rough start with two doubles, but buckled down and ended up having a pretty solid round. Two doubles, eight bogies, six pars and two birdies.

FIR 2/14 (14.29%) - Not good, but I was only in bad position off the tee a couple times so I made it work.

GIR 5/18 (27.78%) - Again not the greatest, but my chipping and pitching made up for the weak approach game.

30 putts - One 3 putt and seven 1 putts

I got a lot of golf in this week and it was nice to end the week on a positive note!

That's because a hill in central florida is nothing more than a speedbump anywhere else..... 😄 😄

Yeah, I hate those types of greens.  Overall, our greens are OK.  Although the 4 greens with a lower tier are troublesome, it's possible to avoid them.  They are just as easy to 3-putt if you are on the upper level putting to the lower level!!  However, the rest of the greens are reasonably flat with subtle breaks that took me several months to "understand".  It is a muni, so the don't trick up the greens except for tournaments.

We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”
