Was lucky enough to get a round on my birthday yesterday - beats being in work! Beautiful September day here in England, warm sun, no wind - perfect playing conditions.

Had a lesson last week which highlighted a loose elbow so been working on that and starting to feel comfortable with the change.

Started so well with a 280y 3h on the 1st, bump & run to 10ft but lipped out for a 🐦.

Just went downhill from there and had no lucky breaks at all. Bounces left when it seemed impossible to not go right, odd bounces into bunkers, more lip-outs....hey-ho, onto the next game and, hopefully lady luck will be with me.

Happy Birthday!!

We played this little 3100 yard 18 hole course near their house that I thought was going to just be a rando little pitch and put that turned out to be a pretty reasonably manicured SCGA rated 18 hole course with great green complexes (small greens with good bunkering) several short par 4s, a lot of fun bunker protected short par 3s, and some relatively challenging mid to long iron par 3s.

After playing it I've decided (not because of my score)  that there should be a lot more courses like it in the world.

Totally, completely agree!!! There's a similar in concept but not quite as nice short little 9-hole near me .. unfortunately over the past several seasons it's gotten "discovered" and round times there can draaaaaag... But it's really fun and a great venue for kids and beginners to get out and learn.

I was a bit inconsistent today compared to recently, but still, it felt real good to birdie the last (186 yd par 3, my only birdie today) to manage to break 80. That one shot difference makes it feel so much better.

First off the tee yesterday at Hilton Head National, a cool 65*. I was paired with a gentleman from New York and a Father & Son from Connecticut.  I must say this is the best course I have played in my 7 years coming to HHI. I played the white tees at 5,628 yds. I hit 10/14 FIR for 71%, 6/18 GIR for 33% and 32 putts. This gave me a 43/42:85 with one birdie on 314 yd par 4 #10. The weather warmed up to 75* during the round with plenty of sunshine after 2 1/2 days of rain.   Kinda getting used to not taking a full swing as my right shoulder is still aggravated.

Interesting you say it’s the best you’ve played in HHI. Where all have you played there? Played Fazio course Labor Day and would like to go back and play more.

Had a chance to play the Air Force Academy’s silver course, aka the Eisenhower course.  AFA has two courses, blue & silver.  Blue, I’m told, is more wide open but longer.  Silver is shorter but tighter & more technical.

My first time to play either so I can’t compare but the silver course does appear to live up to its description.  One par 4 was only 315yds yet it wasn’t an easy hole.

Beautiful course set against the foothills just north of Pikes Peak, great weather, what fun.

Thankfully I had a partner who plays there a lot and could guide me around, otherwise I’d have wasted a bunch of shots.

Played pretty well although the par 3’s ate me up.  Greens have a lot of slope which made putting difficult, still only 33 putts though.

Went out for 9 holes yesterday with my dad and brothers and couldn’t hit anything. Had one chip-in, and one decent drive. Other than that I couldn’t even hit the ball, ended with a 56.

I couldn’t leave that going into the weekend, so I went back to the same course for another 9 this afternoon and started on the 10th hole. All of a sudden I was making good contact, and shot a 42.

Third and last round at Hilton Head, played the Arthur Hills course at Palmetto Hall.  Shot horrible, 45/52:97 but enjoyed the round. Was paired with a single from Hickory, NC and one from Chicago, IL.  Mike and Mark. Mark was in the process of relocating to HHI.  Played 5,6oo+ Yds.  While not especially long, I found most of the bunkers and struggled all day.  My shoulder  and ankle bothered me all day.

So long to HHI today, will be back next year.

We finally got a break in the weather yesterday - well at least the sun came out and no rain in sight - but, still windy as all heck. Ended up playing a tad better than my rounds over the past 6 weeks. Leg must be healing as it didn't hurt during or after the round. I ended up with a 92 with 34 putts - the greens were unbelievably fast and the fairways still quite wet so didn't get much rollout.

I was planning on golfing with the wife today but of course it's starting to rain 😡

Son and I went out to River Heights yesterday and my run of (relatively) good golf continues.  First time we've ever played in windy conditions and it showed.  It took us a little while to get used to things and we lost a ton of balls.  Things were wacky so we didnt count drops and such, so I shot a "95" but it was probably more like a 110 or so.  The wind was a factor; I drove with one for 279 yards, an outlier by my normal standards, while he managed to get under one into the wind for about 60 yards, LOL.

Like an idiot, I made mention how we were putting pretty well and then proceeded to four putt on consecutive holes.  Overall, though, played pretty well.  I'm getting fewer and fewer mis-hits every round which is leading to everything being more enjoyable.  My game from green to about 75 yards is pretty bad, and overall my shots tend to be off-line, but compared my game even a month ago, I'm thrilled by my progress.

The Mizunos have much weaker lofts so I had to figure out what club to hit on every shot.  Guessed right more than wrong.

I used to change my irons constantly, in my Club Ho days.  I've even changed at the turn during golf nerd outings (mostly to be funny).  It helps if you think about your irons in terms of loft instead of club numbers.  🙂

Had my best round ever today!  Pretty happy here.  What was odd was the the back 9 was better than the front.  Usually, I play worse on the back.  Oh well, I'll take it!

It happens.  I have no idea why, but it does. One day most everything is sweet and true.  The next day it is miserable.

Had a good time playing with Larry3d today in his Saturday game. Shot a solid enough 79. Hit lots of very good irons.

But topped two 5 woods on Par 5’s that made me have to work hard to save notes. 😖

More good that bad though. Lessons are continuing to payoff.

Ping G410 5-9 wood  Alta 65 R flex

Edison Wedges 54 and 59 KBS Tour Graphite 80's

EVNRoll ER 5

Titleist Pro VIx optic yellow with revkev stamped on them

Tour Exotics 3 wood is in the bag because we are allowed 14 clubs.  It's a great club for pulling balls out of the water or from bushes - you never want to put your hand into anything in Florida unless you are absolutely certain that it's safe.  There are rare wind conditions when I might hit it off the tee on a few holes that I play.

That's what I have to do.  I know the yardage and what club I would use from my Bridgestone set.  Then I say to myself that would be an 8i which is 29º.  The closest Mizuno is 28º which is a 6i.  I also have to factor in the Bridgestones have 84 gram steel shafts and the Mizzys have a 64 grams graphite shafts.

Eventually, I'll get my numbers for these clubs, but right now I'm getting a feel for them and enjoying a well-struck shot.
