Yesterday played front nine at Ocean County GC @ Atlantis. Tough course, hit the ball well. +1 net with 0 net birdies, just kept it in play all day.

Today I played 9 holes at Clearbrook GC to combine with yesterday. A couple chunks with 7i uncharacteristic of me. No blowup, but a couple double bogeys hurt my score.

Finding a way to turn birdies into bogeys since 1992. #TeamChunks

Excited to finally be able to participate in this! Had a decent day, basing my handicap off of my pre-injury handicap but definitely not playing at that level right now. Haven't lost my distance but overall dispersion and touch on the short shots just isn't where it normally is. Still fun to go out there and feel like I'm competing!

Today was the Sun City Grand Men's Club Pro Am. We had a total of 23 local Pro's from the Phoenix area. I shot an 87 which was okay but I had two triple bogeys and one double bogey. Over I drove the ball well and had a good game. I had two 4 putt greens that didn't help. I was on a team that tie for fifth. Course is in great condition.

Solid round. Only one 3-putt, but 35 putts overall. Simply could not get up and down or make a birdie.

Well, at this point I'm starting to get a cabin fever. I seems like we've had more rain in the last week than we've had in the last 5 years. Hopefully, it dries out a bit this weekend.

My back was killing me after a tough night of little sleep, and I started +8 after 4.  Yikes.

Went +6 the rest of the way, with 2 legit birdies, and posted a decent score - actually, better than decent for me.

It was a beautiful day in Las Vegas with two good friends.  What a great time.  I wish every day golfing was this much fun.  (it often is!)

Working at getting better ... and very slowly getting there.

Awesome course, tough fast undulating greens and elevation, surprisingly, for Vero Beach.

I played 9 holes today. Hit exactly 1 fairway and 1 green. Shot even par and a net -5. Then my partner for this weeks tournament showed up and we played 5 more, but dropped several balls to practice. That was my original intent, to drop several balls around the green and practice, but hit the first chip really close. All the chips were close.

It was windy and wet and cart path only. So some of the missed fairways was because I was aiming for “close to the cart path” vs the fairway. No such excuse for the greens.

Tomorrow is the practice round for the tournament, then a shootout. Saturday is a best ball tournament. Sunday is a Shamble so I can’t enter that round here.

Great weather….mid 60’s to mid 80’s. No penalties today, played an AVX all day. My left shoulder still has pain, but not severe.

I think the AVX is a really good ball!  Definitely notice the lower trajectory, but it is like a bullet off the tee.

I had a Scotty Cameron 1997 Big Sur Broomstick Putter with the 2 piece shaft that kept breaking. I sent it back once, and they replaced shaft, but it was a poor design and soon was messed up again. 10 years ago, I put a shorter thicker shaft on it and modified the lie angle and used it most of the time. Then I decided I wanted a black shaft and ruined it. Last night,  I decided to change it back.

Today, after draining putt after putt in my office, it worked out that I had time so I thought I’d go play a few holes before the rain came. It never came. I took a different driver also. SIM2 9° turned down to. 7° on the Hzrdus Red Smoke RDX shaft. No warm up, just teed it up and gave it a wack. First few holes I hit long high fades. Didn’t hit any greens. Got up and down for pars except the par 3 fourth hole that I lipped out. Through 7 holes I was 3 over gross but just 1 over net.
I missed the 8th fairway and had to draw a hybrid around the trees but rolled inches from the hole and 10’ passed it but off the green. Putted from off the green, so it counts as a chip vs a putt, but drained it for birdie net eagle. So I finished the front 9 with a 38 net 33. With 11 putts.

Then the irons heated up. Birdies on 10 and 11. Got up and down for par/birdie on 12 and 13. A birdie/eagle on 14. I left my approach short on 15 from 136 yards after hitting a fabulous drive, pitched it roll within inches to 4’ for a par/birdie putt, but missed and made 5/4. Had a birdie putt from 8’ on 16 but, for the first time today, I left it short but just a foot. Up and down for par on 17. Poor drive on 18, lay up and pitch to 8’ on 18, but missed that putt for a bogey/par.

So 9/14 fairways and just 5/18 greens. Wedges were very good, mainly because the grass is very good, finally. Putter was off the charts. 23 putts. (24 if you count the one off the green on 8. However, I putted from off the green 7 other times.) I used the putter 31 times but since I was not on the green, and could have used a wedge or another club, it technically wasn’t a putt.

Ok, I want to see that putter mod now!!!  So is it standard length or still "broomstick-esque"?.  Awesome round by the way!!  Looks like you are peaking at the right time (I'm not even going to mention the driver turned down to 7*... that sounds like my putter loft. Haha!)

Cold day for North Tx this late in April as temps were high 50s and wind was 15 and gusty out of the north.  Normally we are pushing 80s this time of year.

Played well.  Drove the ball very well when I kept it in the fairway: 10/14.  Had 2 tee shots that forced me to pitch out and 2 where I hit the green with low punch shots from the trees on the left, one of which resulted in birdie. I got up and down for par on two of the par threes and lipped out two chips on par 4s that saved par. Lost strokes on 2 of the 3 holes I hit it in the bunker.

Putted better.  29 putts including two three putt greens. Switched to my Ping blade from my Odyssey exo7 and made 4 in the 8-12 foot range.  Blasted an uphill 25 footer 10 feet past on 9 for a 3 putt  bogey  and missed a 3 footer on 18 for another 3 putt bogey.  Save for those two greens I putted very well.

Ok, I want to see that putter mod now!!!  So is it standard length or still "broomstick-esque"?.  Awesome round by the way!!  Looks like you are peaking at the right time (I'm not even going to mention the driver turned down to 7*... that sounds like my putter loft. Haha!)

I will not go into my complete putting history. Instinct Putting was a thread in 2012 I wrote all about that and the link is below.

https://forum.mygolfspy.com/topic/6196-instinct-putting/#comment-61054

This is about the mods to this putter. The original Scotty Cameron Big Sur Broomstick was a standard shaft .370 OD  and had a splice in the middle to make it the correct length of 48-ish inches. They put a heavy head that was moved by applying force to the other end of the shaft and put the weakest part in the middle. Not sound engineering. I returned it when this broke, and it was repaired, and then it did it again. I found a shaft for something which had a bend in it, but there was a point after the bend that I could cut  the shaft and use it. I don’t remember the length.

At some point in time, I decided to cut this down to regular length and milled it out a little to change the lie angle  This made it feel extremely heavy, but I actually putted very well with it. I’ve been told by “professionals” that it would ruin my putting, etc. However, the goal is to get the ball in the hole, so they can kiss….. back to the mods

I played this at 33.5”, and there were times I putted well with it, and times I didn’t. I bought a Evnroll ER5B last year because I wanted all black clubs.  Truth be told, this is an excellent putter, and I can use it now, except I prefer a different alignment aid. But in January, I developed  twist in my putting stoke and had trouble reading the putts

January Mod. Along with all my cubs I was using at the time. Basically some shaft changes in the driver and 3 wood, and had my Ping G425 7&9 woods instead of the SIM2 3&4 Rescues.
IMG_3977.jpeg.bcd7256e76eddda114275ef69cd6abb3.jpeg
At that point in time, I had decided I need to investigate the ArmLock Putting Style and Aim Point Putting. I bought a ArmLock putting grip that converted Mid and long putters to armlock. I also added some heat shrink tubing to an already extremely heavy putter because I wanted it all black. But because it had a heavy head and grip, it was surprisingly well balanced.

ArmLock putting was not for me. I do use AimPoint to get an idea, but mainly use the Instinct Putting in the thread.

IMG_4286.jpeg.f016a3765d8ff13aa0bdf55d2da5816a.jpeg

Most of the current mods have to do with weighting. The black shaft is gone. Now it is chrome, it is 38.5” and has a SuperStoke WristLock grip. Why? Because that’s the grip I had. I play this about 33.5-34”. My hands never touch the top black portion, but I have a graphite extension with a  steel weight glued into the end. It is pictured next to a Studio Style Newport 1.5 35” with standard BestGrip Gridiron grip.

The Big Sur probably weighs 1.5-2 times that of the Newport but because of the weighting it feels lighter swing weight. The mass of the head means less swing and the ball holds its line. Mishits are not an issue, unless I hit the ground.

I could probably do a complete thread or section on what I modified each week. I also took 2 heads and 4 shafts to the launch monitor Monday and including the settings on the driver I had 24 variations of what driver I will use in the tournament. Regripping my wedges now. 🤣

My worst round this year! FIR 8/14 57%; GIR 3/18 17%; Putts 32.

weather was overcast with 65* - 82*.

I was “looking up” all day. Probably due to the left shoulder injury (muscles) caused me to bend my left knee too much on the backswing. This caused me to lift up my head and top the ball.  I’ll analyze my round and go after it again on Monday.

My best round on approach and wedges. Darts with wedges and fantastic iron play led to my MOST ever birdies in a round...and 3 of them consecutive.

Not good off the tee and only had two decent drives but made the most of them both at 284.

That was ugly. After 2 weeks of lights out putting 13 putts ON THE FIRST 5 HOLES!  Then I chipped in on 6 for a net eagle, and net birdies on 2 and 8. I shot 47 on the front 9. In spite of a birdie and 2 pars. 19 putts on the front, which doesn’t sound bad until you consider that 3 holes had a total of 2 putts.

Shot a 40 on the back. Had some good holes and finally figured out that if I don’t pound the ball 8’ passed the hole it was better.

Best round this year and probably most of last year.  Weather was lower 50s and rain, all playing partners bailed due to inclement weather so nobody to see my 4 pars on the front 9, and my birdie, birdie, par on holes 14-16 on the back 9 and my SwingU app recalculation of handicap that dropped 2 points this week to 23 😃 Also nobody to see how well I was hitting PW between 100 to 60 yards approach shots onto green or fringe and overall hitting better than I remember.  And I thought Monday's round of 96 was going to be this week's entry 😉
