Another half decent round, 3rd since Saturday. Conditions not so good, stiff 20mph breeze and rain in the air. Struggled over the last few holes and body feeling it now but another positive. 

Think I'll watch the Football and treat myself to a good Malt.

Played in the Men’s Club today. Format was weird. You have a partner. One plays the odd holes and the other the even. On the holes you are playing you can use your partner twice (not twice from the same spot). It was high 40’s and low 50’s. Winds 25 to 30 mph with gust to 38. Very hard day. We shot 5 under and came in second by 1 shot. At least we were in the money!

Sunday it was 75°, sunny, windy. Today it was 45°, wet, windy. The wind chill was 35°. I was determined to play anyway. Hole number 1, mediocre drive, poor approach, aggressive chip and tap-in. Hole 2, great irons off the tee to perfect position on the dogleg, poor approach, aggressive chip and a 2’er. Third tee directly into the 25 mph wind and the best thing about not playing golf for a living occurred to me. “I don’t HAVE to do this.” After a 30 second debate we agreed to go to the club house. 
 

It was 67°, no wind, and not muddy in the bar.

The 270 was a bit of an anomaly. It was a well struck 3 hybrid, that hit what looked like a tee box in the middle of the fairway and rabbit kicked forward for extra 30 yards.

Course wet, cart path only (11267 steps)whew!  Struggled on par 5’s but did birdie 2 par 3’s.  #2 playing about 102 to front pin hit ball short of green and it was held up by sprinkler head full of water- drop out of sprinkler head and then rolled in 20 ft putt.  #6 playing uphill to middle pin at 109, 2 ft birdie putt.  Last 4 holes played in wind gusting around 20 mph.  Just another great golf day.  At 81 they are all great golf days!

Back indoors after a day outside in Iowa.  League play...Apogee reads way too much spin on my shots.  I hit an 8 iron and it read that I spun it 10,000.  Cmon...I cant even do that with my wedge.  Of course it came up short and in a bunker which I flopped out and it spun on the green and back into the bunker.

I fell back to earth today after Tuesday's "out of this world" round!  The law of averages (and GHIN) said it's tough to shoot well back-to-back.  Not what I would characterize as a stellar round.

My driving was actually not that bad today.   My longest was 193 yards on the par 4 twelfth hole leaving me an uncharacteristic 8 iron to a front pin placement.  I had da 183 yard drive into the wind on the previous hole. 

I was also somewhat happy about the 17% greens in regulation.  That's one more green in regulation than I typically have and with "only" 61% of my approaches short (two long, one right and one left) I'm showing some improvement. 

The major disappointment today was my bunker play.  Our course is notorious for your rocky, ultra-firm traps.  Given our Rees Jones design, we have small greens.  Just as I became accustomed to our washed out traps (heavy rain last week), they added sand without fully raking or smoothing it out. We were about two or three holes ahead of the grounds crew tending to the traps.   As a result, I really didn't play them well.  Too many poor sand shots and missed putts.

My dilemma is do I continue to deal with the more aggressive lofted Callaway Paradym X irons from last year's MGS review or pursue a higher launch set of irons to help me deal with our small greens?  Our eight hole is a par 3 over mangroves.  For me, it's about 133 yards for me.  Of course, there's traps run the entire width of the green, strategically positioned between the mangroves and green AND behind the entire width behind the green.  Even though I typically hit the green on my tee shot, three-quarters of the time I'm in the back trap. 

I hit the Srixon ZX4 MK II irons well and now may be a front runner if I decide to move forward.

I kept it together and just stroked it today. Hit 10 fairways, 14 greens and the key was 29 putts! I’ll take a 67 in these conditions everyday! I may not win this event, but this was as good as it gets!!

Unfortunately after this round I went to go play hockey and hurt my back.  Was just reaching for the puck in a crowd, and boom.  Don't really know what happened.... Almost made me cry trying to go up the stairs to bed after.  It's a little better this morning, but still really sore.  Hopefully this doesn't keep me down for too long.
