Top 5 Golf Swings Of All Time?

Not sure who this guy is, but it's hard to argue with his list...

Always thought Trevino's swing was a little awkward looking, but from the waist down it's not all the different from Hogan's.  And it's easy to forget how powerful Jack was in his prime...

What's in the bag:

Well I would replace Trevino with Byron Nelson, that's for sure, Trevino was a great ball striker but as for his swing?  Consider the litany of back issues that he had throughout his career.  His swing worked for him - you would not want to try and teach it to someone else.

In many ways that could also be said of Jack, his swing was his swing, pretty hard to teach, deadly effective, how about Bobby Jones in his place.

Jones, Thompson, Snead, Hogan, Nelson - not bad swings at all.  Sadly the only one that I saw live was Snead.  So there's the next list - live swings, let's see:

Snead, Els, Scott, Woods (early career), Weiskopf (or however you spell it).  If Tiger's swing can't be parsed out like that then I'll go with Tom Watson to round out my top five.

Taylor Made Stealth 2 10.5 Diamana S plus 60  Aldila  R flex   - 42.25 inches

SMT 4 wood bassara R flex, four wood head, 3 wood shaft

Ping G410 7, 9 wood  Alta 65 R flex

Srixon ZX5 MK II  5-GW - UST recoil Dart 65 R flex

India 52,56 (60 pending)  UST recoil 75's R flex

Evon roll ER 5 32 inches

It's our offseason so auditioning candidates - looking for that right mix of low spin long, more spin around the greens - TBD

That's a pretty solid live top 5 rev.

Couldn't resist this.

1. Hogan

2. Tiger/Scott

3. Faldo

4. Nicklaus

5. Snead

I based my choices on the ability of the ordinary man to emulate or copy elements of the swings listed.  I would never say that these are the only swings out there just some of the ones that came to mind.  Trevino is listed above but try and emulate that!  I bought his book in my early days and I think it was certainly unique and worked for him. Anyway I'm surprised there weren't a few more opinions on this thread.

If we are talking swings I'm in on Moe Norman - if we are talking ball strikers see that thread.

Having written that I can't imagine a list like this without Sam Snead on it - However I thought Rookie's post was quite humorous and I'm under so much stress right now that any little smile is like an absolute belly whopper.  So thanks for that!

In no particular order. Rory, Adam, Tiger(preferably the early years), video of Hogan, and to add someone from the ladies game I will take Michelle Wie. There are plenty of others that I have seen video on but I don't want to think about the emense time it would take me go over the best of all time to pick a top 5. Not to mention picking an order LOL

On a side not, I recently saw some video of Mickey Wright and it was pretty impressive too.

I'm surprised at the Watsons. He was known for his remarkable short game. He was all over the place off the tee, really, seriously. But we are entitled to our opinions.

I'm going only with guys that I actually saw in person:

Snead

Nicklaus (not pretty but machine like)

Littler

Woods (mid early period nothing after that)

Rory

Honorable mention to Tom Weiskopf, Ernie Els, Nick Faldo, Tom Purtzer and Greg Norman (No one hit long shots like that Norman and I can't stand the guy)

Taylor Made Stealth 2 10.5 Diamana S plus 60  Aldila  R flex   - 42.25 inches

SMT 4 wood bassara R flex, four wood head, 3 wood shaft

Watson is a little before my time, so I didn't see him in his heyday, but you have to admit, results aside, his swing is beautiful to look at.

You know how much respect I have for you but so was Be Crenshaw's and neither could hit a fairway. :)

That depends on how you interpret "Top 5 Swings"

Look at Arnie and Couples. Effective, but.....

Agreed to an extent. I patterned my swing after Watson so don't think I didn't love his game, his full game was good enough to let that remarkable short game carry him. When the putting stroke went, like Plamer, it was church.

You don't think Freddy has a good looking swing? It's not textbook but he may have the best tempo of all time.

Now Arnie on the other hand... I see what your getting at there.
