We had a professional golfer play our course today and he now owns the course record. Mackenzie Hughes, from Canada, shot 63 with 2 bogeys, both on the back nine. He isn't the first pro to play here and hold the course record. the previous course record was held by Steve Marino, who shot a 66. This is a very diffficult course especially so from the tips. Apparently he finished about 30 minutes ahead of us. It would have been nice to see him play.

That kids got some game from watching on TV. It definitely would have been cool to see that in person.

Found out today my son is leaving Tuesday for basic training at Fort Benning, Ga. He's 27 years old and starting a career in the military. I hope he can make it through the rigorous training that he is about to face. It's a huge wake up when you step off the bus and that drill sergeant becomes your shadow. Life is about to change in a big way and in many ways I think it will be good for him. The next couple of months will be interesting to say the least.

OG I did 4 years active duty so if I could make it I think he'll be fine. Biggest key is to shut off your ego. Yes, it's not fair. No, nobody cares, STFU and do what you're supposed to.

LOL... I remember those days. The teachers didn't care that I showed them how to get the answer in 17 fewer steps (math), they were more concerned with the process.

 

I sent a note to the teacher telling him if I were hiring for positions in a company, I'd hire the person that gets results faster with less "red tape"...lol.

Great place but only one public course and its generally crowded. Not sure if there's a course at the naval station. Next closest course is in Marathon and it's pitiful. Next stop is Miami unless someone invites you to Ocean Reef (in that case bring LOTS of money) in Key Largo.

 

Some of the best fishing we've ever done. Food and drink are great just keep away from Duval Street

 

The Keys got hit really hard during last year's hurricane but Key West was the first to recover.

Based on those "entries" there were probably lots of firsts to fall for it.

 

Speaking of falling for it, I got a voicemail today from a computer informing me of five outstanding criminal warrants. If I called them back I could prevent my immediate arrest. Yeah right . I'll bet there are some Odyssey entrants that have probably called them back.

I got that call too... I laughed hoping someone other than a recording would answer just so i could be a dick to them, but never happened. I do have the number written down i was thinking about calling it back from a pay phone and making their life hell lol

I do know a guy who thought it was real and tried to get his well off father to follow thru on the grab for riches. Guy was/is a real moron.

I was just having a conversation with a younger co-worker yesterday about the "long distance" wars - I used to switch between Sprint, MCI, and AT&T very frequently for whoever had the best deal going. He looked at me like I had three heads. "What's long distance?"

How about the days before voicemail - when you stepped back in the office you had a ton of those message slips were you had to return calls. Even further back - 'party lines' were you shared a line with other homes. Ah yes the good old days where you met the scammers face to face and Alexa wasn't listening to your conversations. Today's technology make George Orwell's "1984" look naive

Heck, if you're old, than I must be ancient.   I can remember "party lines" and four digit phone numbers.   Granted, I was a pre-school youngster, but darn it, I can remember them.

When I first "met" Chanin we both used calling cards to phone because it was so much cheaper than ringing at the international rate.
