Putter Customization

Recommended Posts

Anyone have any creative ideas for how I could customize my putter? I'm talking sight lines, stamps, other markings, etc. This putter isn't my gamer, so I am willing to go a little outside of my comfort level. If I make any mistakes, it isn't a huge deal. Thanks guys!

If you have the tools to mill sight lines, that might be a cool idea. It isn't too hard to set-up for stamping, you just have to buy the stamps. Paint fill is pretty easy too. Someone on here not too long ago did a tutorial on using colored heat-shrink wrap on shafts.

Thanks scooducks! I have a Dremel tool, which I used a lot to remove a bunch on dings, and I was thinking about using that for the sight line. I believe it would be pretty easy to do. I think I have some metal stamps somewhere that I was hoping to use. I have no clue where they are, though! Heat-shrink wrap... great idea! I'll have to look into finding that tutorial...

Everything scooducks said. Everything is fairly inexpensive too. I think I paid $15 or so for my set of stamps. $8 for a box of Testors paint to paint fill, comes with multiple colors. The heat-shrink is only a few bucks from eBay and it gives you enough to do it multiple times.

Don't know what type of putter it is,  but you could always do a torched or oil can finish.

Welcome to the DYI section. Can you post some pics of the putter?

Sight lines would be hard to make sure they're straight unless you have access to a mill.

Use 2-3 layers of masking tape to map out and pre-mark your stamps into the first 1-2 layers and use them as a guide, plus double sided tape on the face to hold it in place.

Looking forward to seeing your work!!

That sounds super cool! It is a PING Zing 5 BeCu.

Here are some pics of the putter. It's pretty much a blank slate, aside from the new paint fill. I appreciate the ideas!

I'd recommend being careful with a BeCu club.   Not the safest material to sand or mess with.

Yeah... I've been reading a ton about Beryllium poisoning. Doesn't sound like the nicest material!

I have a simple but classy look for your putter! You can choose your type of wood from native hardwoods or exotic hardwoods. Draft a pattern to fill the cavity behind the putting face. Glue the wood to the cavity and finish to your liking with a lacquer or verathane or oil.

The addition of wood really dresses up the look its easy to work with and sightlines can be placed using pinstriping found in any automotive supply store.Once the entire putter is brushed with lacquer your putter will really shine..the rest is up to you, as to what the 19th hole conversation is all about. Cheers.

Yeah that was my first thought as well. It looks like you should be able to based on the pic. Here is the link to a really good diy how to on torch finishing. https://www.mygolfspy.com/torch-flaming-golf-wedges/
