Best Swing Grips for Golfer Who Doesn't Wear a Glove

Golf2Much

Recommended Posts

For some reason, I've never been able to feel comfortable wearing a golf glove when I play.   So, for the last 20-25 years I've played without one.  I've had the same Golf Pride CP2 Pros on my irons for longer than I can remember (likely four years and over 500 rounds and they still are in good shape).  My wood and wedges are a mishmash of GP MCC and Tour Velvet Plus 4 grips.  I'm looking to standardize on one new grip for all my clubs and would appreciate hearing from non-glove wearing golfers which grips they prefer.

Interested to see the responses. I also don't really like wearing a glove either, but kind of do out of necessity. If there's a good grip that would allow me not to, I would be all over that.

@MattF I was seriously thinking about trying that grip, but ended up sticking with the GP CP2 Pro grips to replace the Tour Velvet Plus 4 grips on my fairway woods and replace the one I have on my wedges with a MCC Plus 4 so it matches the other two.  I did order the red and blue team color MCC Plus 4 to honor the Buffalo Bills!

I'm a gloveless golfer in hot humid weather. Been a past user of MCC+4 but recently converted to GP CPX for my long clubs. I found the CPX to be a bit softer than MCC+4 and seem to wear better than the MCC +4. I'll still end up with the +4 on my wedges since those are the clubs I end up choking down on but don't need the more tapered grip on the long clubs.

Additional note even though I'm using the +4 on my wedges I still put an extra 1/2 wrap on them.

I was considering the CPX, but several reviews I read said they wore too quickly.  What's your experience?

Not sure what you mean by too quickly. They're comfortable in my hands and grippy so in hot humid weather they don't slip but at the same time not tacky. Best to try one since grips are so personal - a $10. investment.

I am gloveless too and have struggle to find something I like. I use mcc’s on irons and the plus 4 align on by driver. I quite like them, but don’t really love the feel on the bottom hand.

I tried the cp2, iomic, and the lamkin st +2 but found them all a little to soft, and a little prone to feeling slick when humid/wet. I also have a velvets on a hybrid but don’t like that feel either—too smooth and a little inconsistent with the tackiness depending on use.

I just bought some different pure grips to try out, but after reading a bit about them i think I may have gone the wrong way because they are apparently also a bit soft…made in USA though, so maybe worth a look

Spell check at it's worse.  What I meant to say is do they wear (not wore) too quickly?  Some people have had issues with them not lasting too long.

I am doing this same investigation on my end looking for my go to grip. I've played Tour Wrap for 10 years easy but have had issues with sweaty hands or humid days.

I also prefer no glove but when I do use a glove its a rain glove for better grip. I have Lamkin Sonar+ on a few of my clubs and have enjoyed it and feel like it's impossible to let them slide out.

You're going to make me do some research with this to recall who it was who had these grips, but there is an Australian company that makes leather grips and they are easily the best. Maybe it was Jason Day. However without question they are the best feeling non glove wearing grips possible. Now as to how much they are and all of that... I don't remember, but I will be sure to post it here when I eventually find it again!

Im a non glove user and love the Iomic Sticky Evolution grips. Good price and last a good long time. Wipe them down with a wet towel then a dry towel and they go back to being tacky. If you have smaller hands like I do the 1.8 are even better.

Currently game tour velvet align grips but will be putting the iomics with reminder strips(got used to the reminder and now it feels weird to not have anything there)on my clubs when the season finally kicks into gear here.

Best grips microperf are my favorites.  I've tried the regular and a couple different gripmasters.  They are pricey but they last a long time.  I've wore out the area under my thumb on a gripmaster roo grip (~2-3 years) and had a butt cap fail on a bestgrip (~2-3 years)  No issues with the rest though.

II haven't worn a glove in years -- I just think I have a better feel without one.  I've been using the MCC+4 for the past few years.  I have 3 wraps of tape at the top, 2 at the bottom and it's comfortable with more than enough tackiness for me.  I replace 1-2 times a year, depending on how much I get to play.  Have a box of new ones ready to go on next week.

I've never felt comfortable wearing a glove....

I don't change club grips very often, either.

Most often changed is the driver..... every 3 years, as the thumb area seems to wear out the fastest.

I play 60-70 rounds per year.

Use midsize grips.  just changed driver grip to a Lamkin (forgot model name) that does not have much taper.  Theoretically to counter

right hand turning over.  It works 🙂  as my pronounced draw is lessened (also have driver set for slight fade; 9.5* ~ 220 yds carry)

all other clubs have mixture of golfpride/Lamkin.... as I change when needed....

Superstroke installed on Odyssey putter.

ps:  I was told that oversize grips lessen hand action....

When I used to not wear a glove I preferred a much softer grip, so the CP2 would be my choice, which is what OP already has on his clubs. The Tour Velet are fine, but they wear out too quickly.

Lamkin ST+2 Hybrid. Hands down the best grip on the market.

... While I enjoyed/groaned over your hands down pun 😜  grips are just so personal. I have never worn a glove and preferred something tacky feeling so I started out with Tour Velvet wiping them down before every shot ala Freddie. Later I found the Lamkin Gen3's that worked even better but Lamkin discontinued making them. Started using the UTx and they might have actually been too tacky but still needed to be wiped down before every shot or they got slick.

... Like you, once I tried the Lamkin ST+2 Hybrid they became my instant favorites. They are not "tacky" per se but the grip is very secure and never slips. I only wash them once a week to be sure no oils from my hands seep into the grip but not even sure that is necessary. Also nice I don't have to add a couple layers under the right hand.
