I think if you’re happy where you are money won’t make it better, quite possibly the grass won’t be greener. Also that vehicle accounts for money as well (call it 10%) and if they pay for gas then you’re close to that 20% just from that.

I’ve got to agree with Matt & Lacassem, when something sounds too good there’s usually a snake in the woodpile.

That's pretty much where I'm at. I don't know the full story behind the lawsuit, but the whole situation and meeting with the partners involved, I just get an uneasy feeling about the whole situation and company. On the other hand, I absolutely love my current company and the management staff above me. They treat me well, including the vehicle and fuel (in California that is a huge saving for me).

Are you a high stakes gambler?

A risky move... is to sit down with your current management and ask them to match the other offer .. the downside being they can, of course, say no - in effect challenging you to see if you really are gonna leave .. but then if you don't it gets awkward...

The upside, though, could be they see you as seriously considering changing and don't want to lose you .. and do offer you something additional.

I am not a gambler. And leaving my company right now would, at least temporarily, cripple the department. There are only 4 of us, and one just went on medical leave for the next 3-6 months. Even if I wanted to ask for more, this would reflect pretty poorly on me with regards to the timing.

Its not even a true significant pay increase. If I factor in the other perks of my current position against the new one, it is actually only a very small pay increase when I look more into it. With the added commute and the unknown regarding hours of work involved, my actual $/hr involved is more like a 9% increase at most and doesn't factor in the company vehicle and fuel perk I have now. Add in the uncertainty regarding the lawsuit, which apparently the company is already on their 3rd group of lawyers involved with that particular lawsuit, I'm not willing to risk my family's situation.

Long story short, after some reflecting on both the numbers associated and my own personal feelings, I'm good where I'm at.

As many of you know, I have lost a bunch of weight over the past 16 months.  So, I have problems with shirts and pants fitting decently.  Clothes too big, so I buy a couple pairs of pants; shorts and shirts for golf, only to find they are too big and I have to buy more.

Today I went through my closet and anything that was too big or I knew I wouldn't wear anymore, I took out and they are going to the thrift store or Goodwill.  Well, my wife said that I have some clothes in an old streamer trunk of hers, so I checked it out.  Inside were 23 golf shirts that I haven't seen in years, many hardly worn.  They were shirts that I bought at courses that had their logo... and most of them fit pretty well.  Most are before the age of "performance" shirts so cotton, but they are very nice shirts.  Some of the courses I played:

  • Pebble Beach (no I didn't play this one!  😆)
  • PGA West
  • Grayhawk
  • TPC Scottsdale
  • Camelback
  • Grande Dunes
  • Caledonia Golf and Fish Club
  • Kensington Naples
  • Hawks Landing
  • Shingle Creek
  • ChampionsGate
  • The Golf Club of Oregon

It's like a second Christmas this year!!!

We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

What are the chances I could do that with my wife? Our son guessed that she had about 100 shirts in her closet. I stopped counting at 100 and I didn't make it halfway through the top rack of her closet. Now she has migrated to take over 1/3 of my closet as well.

I had to chuckle on the shirts. My walk in closet is smaller in my new house so I purged some golf shirts after the move. I was at 150 and now I'm down to 80. It pains me to try to purge some more. I should, since I work from home now and don’t have to wear one to work every day.

I don't think I have 50, even with these new/old ones I found. I had to get rid of shirts in my closet to make room for these.  Don't have enough hangers.  I only wear maybe a rotation of a dozen shirts.  I haven't worn a coat/dress/shirt/tie in 8 years; they all went to the thrift store because they are huge!!  At my age I do need to get something dressy; there may be a funeral coming up.   😂

I tried the old " if you buy one - you have to take one out" conversation with my wife. Hmmm that didn't work. Her closet is full up north at our condo and here in FL as well. When we go to PGASS (her favorite) she immediately heads for the sale rack or the Pebble Beach (PGASS house brand) rack.

I tried that but she turned it around on me, but a club get rid of a club…..not worth the argument on my end.

I had to chuckle on the shirts. My walk in closet is smaller in my new house so I purged some golf shirts after the move. I was at 150 and now I'm down to 80. It pains me to try to purge some more. I should, since I work from home now and don’t have to wear one to work every day.

Well that didn’t last long. I bought a new shirt today.

Well done!!
I bought a golf jacket that with 40% off and I had another 20% cost me $30 out the door.  Unfortunately SWMBO realized that this is my 2nd jacket of this kind one black the other blue and had the same discount last year.  She failed to see the larger picture.  Well it was a great price😜

Background: Last July, came down with Covid.  Peak fever of 103 for 1 day, less for 3 other days.  Strictly  upper respiratory and headache.  Kicked my butt fir about 3 days.  Significant fatigue for a week after then back to normal.

About 6 weeks later, one day woke up with dry eye, but not a normal dry eye. (I’ve had dry eye syndrome my whole life).  Could hardly open my eye lids.  Was thinking back, there were a couple days with Covid that it seemed to attack 1 eye at a time for 6-8 hrs but didn’t think anything of it.  What I experienced 6 weeks later was DES x 1000.  Vision was affected, painful, drops every 20 minutes, but to the point I could barely function.

Did some research and long Covid symptoms occur around 6 weeks and can last a short while or maybe up to a year. My bad symptoms would last 4-6 days, get better, then repeat.  After a few weeks, I tried getting an appt with my eye doc (I wear glasses) , but no answer. Called several times and left messages.  No call back. Three days later finally got thru for an appt that day.

I arrived 10 min early, then waited an hour.  My doc wasn’t avail so saw his partner.  Technician took me to a room, then asked a lot of questions and took a lot of notes for about 20 min.  Then waited another 45 min for the doc.  He walks in, introduces himself (Dr TicTok (not exactly but similar)).  Asked me why I was there.  He never checked any of the notes.

I went thru the whole history and told him compared to a few days ago, symptoms were way better.  He checked my eyes, told me I have severe dry eye (no sh!t), and inflamed eyes.  Told me to use “Blink” eyedrops) instead of Refresh and Vistane.  I told him they were a lot better than a few days ago.  Scolded me for not coming in earlier when they were worse so he “could really see what was going on”.  Technician told him the phones were down.  He laughed, then said “why is that not the first time I’ve heard that”.  I walked out feeling disgusted.

Called my primary physician and he recommended a group an hour away in Athens.  Got in almost immediately, checked in, then called 5 minutes later.  Went thru the history with the tech, she did a few different tests, met with the dr got the results, got a prescription for Xiidra, plus a reusable compress.   Had a follow up a week later for another test.  Just a really good experience.

Anyways, just wanted to share.  Symptoms still occur but much milder, less frequent, and only last a couple days, and just a nuisance and something to manage.  Will go back in a couple months for follow up with the good doc and have eyes checked fir new glasses.  Still have an appt sched with my previous doc - will call and have a conversation why I’m cancelling.  He likely will not get the feedback from his staff as they won’t care.

1/2? heck I don't even have 1/4 up north. In Fl we have seperate closets - hers is packed and mine mostly empty. I have a feeling that His will soon become Hers with a bit of His.

At my parents house.  It was just odd.  The latch wouldn't disengage.  I could turn the handle but the latch... nothing.  Luckily there was enough of an opening at the bottom of the door to slide a small screwdriver through.  Took some doing to get the hinges lined up enough to pop the pins loose.  Managed to mash up my knuckles in the process.  On a positive note at least it happened to me and not one of the little grandkids!
