This topic came up in the community call last night and I was curious to hear the communities thoughts on this.

What clubs do you put on a tee? All? None but driver? or somewhere in between?

Every club with the exception of my 50, 54, and 58 degree wedges gets put on a tee peg when on the tee box. The irons get teed at flush with the top of the turf or 1/8” above that, MAX. Hybrids are teed about 1/4” above the turf, and fairways not much higher than that, if at all higher.

I can very much see that I am in the minority here for many of these situations haha

I only tee my driver. The rest off the deck with the exception if I really need to get the ball high quick or if elevation is a larger factor. In that case I may tee up an iron or others. However for the most part it is drop the ball find a decent spot and let it fly!

Majority of the time everything gets a tee.  Occasionally I'll just throw it down and hit but that's few and far between.

We do have one par 4 though that I will tee off with driver off the deck most of the time.

I tee everything but wedges. Like others, I tee irons just off the top of the turf. Everything else goes at the height I like them.

I’ll tee everything except wedges. But it’s rare that you’re going to use a wedge on the tee box anyway. Always give yourself any advantage you can. The tee height is typically even to the top of the grass or 1/16” above for the irons, hybrids and fairway woods. Then go up for the driver.

If allowed everything on top of a tee in the tee box area except wedges, although using a wedge off a tee on a par 3 is something rarely seen by me as well.

Short tees at grass level for irons, slightly higher for utility club or fairways, and higher for the driver for me.

Always tee it up on the tee box regardless of the club in hand! In my own experience it is such an advantage. I play with lots of folks that don't use a tee for irons/wedges and if that works for you that is great, but I always watch them with a bit of apprehension.

Driver and fw's. I used to tee all irons but only do so now on long irons; 3hyi, 4i and sometimes 5i.  For the rest I find that I tend to make better strikes and have better green holding results finding a nice fluffy spot and hitting w/o a tee.  Our tees are really well maintained and that helps this option.

As mentioned I essentially only tee up driver, but I am willing to change or try.

My thought is I don't get to tee up in the fairway and still hit good to great shots there. I can get that same thing on the tee box by not teeing up. Putting the ball on s tee there while not massively does change that and would be the abnormal lie compared to what I play throughout the round.

It's an interesting topic and maybe I will trying putting on a tee more often. What's the harm?

I heard this topic while we were playing on the 5th fairway and wasn't sure I heard it right as I was hitting fairway hybrid in the fairway and it caught me as coming into the middle of a conversation as tees don't get used in the middle of the fairway.

I have two heights of tee in my pocket, 2 3/4" and 1 1/4".  The longer for all long shaft clubs set to an appropriate height determined by use for what works best for each club.  The shorter for irons to get the ball to grass top height for a chance to click it off the clubface without a rendition of "turf farming" on the pretty short grass of the tee box.

I prefer bright orange because it is hidden by the ball when hitting but stands out well against the grass when looking for it once I know where I am likely going to find where the ball went.

I use a tee for driver, 3w, 3h, 4u, 5-7i

8i-LW, I do not.

No real reason beyond preference. I don’t like hitting high lofted irons or wedges off tees. The 7i is mostly a tee, but sometimes not. Kinda depends on the condition of the tee box.

All clubs get a tee, although I've never had an opportunity for my SW and LW.  Since I rarely take a divot, I get better contact when the ball is sitting just slightly elevated with all clubs; driver gets a long tee.

Every once in a great while, I will hit my 8i, 9i, and PW off the turf on the teeing ground if the lie is flat and grass is good. Otherwise, as I posted earlier, all shots from the teeing ground are played off of a peg, even if it is set so that the top of the tee is at the top of the turf or just a hair above it.

I dond this interesting because, while I can stop Irons all the way up to and including my 3I from a nice lie in the fairway, I definitely find that when I tee an iron (from the box of course) it gives me that much more control.  Probably because there is very little chance of anything getting between the iron face and the ball. But hey, everybody's stroke is a bit different so what works for me...interesting how our results differ.

I drives me crazy when I get a bag of tees and 20%+ are green! Is that a marketing ploy to get us to lose them and buy more?  Maybe they should make camo golf balls…

driver,  3w, 5w. 5 and 6 iron.  I found that if I use a tee, even a mini with lower clubs the ball tends to hook.  now, it is probably my mechanics, but also being a novice player I have not dived into altering my swing for adjustments off the tee.  I'll take a club up if an iron is needed instead off the tee box
