2023 GHIN Rewind Results

Received an email this morning from USGA GHIN linking to a year end summary. For those posting scores to GHIN I thought it would be fun to share them. Here's mine:

Here’s mine. It’s funny, my avg score is lower than my best score since I was only able to play mostly 9 hole rounds, so they are combined to make the averages.

2023 was tough year overall, but seeing this, this morning reminded me that it wasn’t all bad:

Here is mine but the round count is way off due to the amount of solo rounds and customer scrambles I play. I am right around 75 rounds.

You might think that posting 138 rounds (98% on the same course and not counting the number of charity golf events I played in 2023) I would get better and my ending index would go down.  But NO!  

I broke 80 only twice this year, about half the number of times I do in a year given the number of rounds I played.  I struggled a little bit with keeping the irons I tested in play for two-thirds of the year. 

Even with all of my 2023 golf struggles, my average score was only about 0.5 strokes higher than my average over the last 16 years!  Over that period of time, my average annual score hasn't varied more than -1.0 to +0.6 strokes off that average. Given I've gotten older and dealt with a few other issues I guess that's really not too bad!  In the end, I'm not sure why I expected anything really different!

My lowest index this year was just before going to the MGS Pinehurst outing. The mental scarring  from that, and another month of so-so play, took me as high as 10.8. Fifteen or so years ago I was as low as 2.4. I'm probably delusional, but based on how I started playing at the end of the year, I think I can get back to that this year.

Seemed like I was fighting my swing most of the year but I did hit a run of good form in the summer. It was also bolstered by the fact that we joined a club so I settled on one course for the latter part of the year (still got around to 25 courses, not bad). I think when I got down to a 2.0 that was a little "fake" because, frankly, I think our club's golf course rating is too high. It is not as hard as the rating would indicate and thus I don't think most members' handicaps "travel" very well. I think I should probably add about 1.0 to my handicap to get it in the reasonable ballpark. So if I am a 2.4 now, I am probably REALLY a 3.4. Overall I am happy with the results, hoping to keep it in this same neighborhood next year.

round count is low also due to some events I played in for work and tournaments. Also didn’t post 9 hole rounds but will be this year!

Pretty boring year for me.  At the start of the year I was hoping to practice more and drop down into the two's (taste the 2's! as Chasing Scratch would say), but life got in the way and my practice sessions all but dried up as we hit the summer.

2023 was my 50th birthday year and my goals was to play 50 rounds. Managed to play 54 rounds but some were at the Par 3 with my kids so those weren’t posted. Probably won’t get in 50+ rounds this year but I’m gonna try.

Great thread and cool to see everyone’s stats! Mine are detailed below, hoping to keep the hdcp working down towards low teens this year. Lowest round 88 doesn’t factor in the combined 9 hole scores I posted on back to back days for an 81 which is totally fair as I won’t really “count” it until I can do it over 18 holes. Still was the best ball striking I’ve ever had on back to back days and rounds!

So this was a very weird year - the first half of the year seemed like I could not miss anything, this the last part of the year was missing everything to the point I started a swing change and now I am back to striking the ball again
I had the biggest swings in score this year as well - had a low of 68 and high of 94
I am trying to get back down to 7 again

Now after trying to play another 18 this afternoon it may go up.  My old a$$ doesn't have it in me for 36 these days.

2023 was a lot of work, and I had my share of roller coaster movement on my index.  The count is off by a few rounds, not sure why exactly but I carded 100 rounds in 2023.

the goal for 2024 is to hit 5-5.9

Thanks! I appreciate it.

Stay below 5. I don’t how much of that, is predicated on my familiarity with my home course. I plan to play more rounds away this year, so I am interested and excited to see how the index “travels”.

Okay, I have to say these are impressive hcp's! 

Question for all, do you enter your course ratings based on your tee position played each round? Some of the courses I play, I  tee up from the whites,  sometimes 1 up from there.

Son in the app you select the tees you’re playing from and the slope and rating are in there already.

Late to the party. Here’s mine. Not as many rounds as I’d like to have. I did play more than I posted due to several scrambles I played in. 
 

Late year surge and saw some good scoring thanks to the LeanLock putting system and Odin golf balls.

I was doing really well unit I mess of my knee. (may have a knee replacement in the fall) My HCP changed very quickly over a couple of weeks.  Hope I can get it back in line this year. Actually, I hope I can play this year.
