I’d go with my 8 iron which is usually in the 146-155 area for me.

When I think of a “standard” 150 club, I think of what I would hit off a tee on a par 3. In which case, it’s 9-iron all day. Of course, wind will factor in as well as pin location but assuming no wind and a perfect lie, I’d hit 9-iron.

Playing at sea level in muggy Florida it’s a 7 iron, sometimes even 6 when it gets particularly humid with wet turf conditions. It was an 8 iron when I played in Indiana last May - it took a couple of rounds to figure that out

Taylor Made Stealth 2 10.5 Diamana S plus 60  Aldila  R flex   - 42.25 inches

SMT 4 wood bassara R flex, four wood head, 3 wood shaft

Ping G410 7, 9 wood  Alta 65 R flex

Srixon ZX5 MK II  5-GW - UST recoil Dart 65 R flex

India 52,56 (60 pending)  UST recoil 75's R flex

Evon roll ER 5 32 inches

It's our offseason so auditioning candidates - looking for that right mix of low spin long, more spin around the greens - TBD

Last range session was my 7w. It's consistent with my swing to grab 145-150 with it. I can sometimes hit my 7i that far, but no stopping the ball height to the shot.

Now if I'm teeing it up a hair, my 8i will touch 150 sometimes too.

Pretty sure they mean stock yardage it says "under normal conditions" which I assume means flat no wind but that was just my take

Since I just got new irons, I’m going to have to say that’s a wait and see. With my PXG irons it was my PW. But that’ll happen when you swing fast and the loft is 41 degrees.

A PXG PW is 41 degs??? Wow my 8 iron is 39° that's the trend though and I had to order mine in what PING calls "Retro Spec lofts" to get them in the lofts I wanted to avoid gapping at the wedges. Ping now offers the standard loft (which is pretty jacked) the retro loft and the Power Spec lofts if you want to be the guy on the tee that says "man you have to hit 7 iron here??? Average carry of my 9 iron is 145 yards

Average carry of my 8 iron is 157 yards

So as others have mentioned, which club I use is dictated by the actual conditions present at the time. The pin location would factor in as well.

Yeah I was shocked when I read that!! They are far more players iron than some juiced Game Improvement iron that's why I was puzzled. I actually had to custom order my irons in "retro loft" to keep them traditional and I don't care about anything but the gapping. These dudes that play the OEM PW and GW in those sets go from the Gw being 46° to a 56 or 58 sand wedge???? I don't even play a factory PW mine is a Vokey because I don't like the clunky wedges in the sets

The PXG irons I had were their Game Improvement irons. So stronger lofted yes. It was fun for a while when a friend would ask what I was hitting and it was 2 clubs less than what they were, and then they switched to to the same club and came up way short.

Weird, you went to the Gen 6 “P” irons. Clearly I said Game improvement irons which is their “XP” irons. And you want to doubt the specs I listed. It’s ok, here is a screen shot directly from PXG’s website with the Gen 6 XP irons. So you’re wrong. IMG_2619.png.fda296e9c5760e20e074102dfd0e1f9a.png

That's a PW for me and a strong lofted 8 iron for my league partner and he kicks my butt everytime we play. Doesn't matter how far anyone hits it but us men and the egos 🤣 living proof is Kyle Berkshire!!! Hits driver , 8 iron on 560 yd par 5s on in two and three jacks for par meanwhile the old man hits it straight 3 times and then 1 putts for Birdie. Some of us hit down on the ball and trap it super hard which increases ball speed and others (me) have been working for years to keep my hands ahead of the ball so I actually even though my PW is a 48° deloft it fairly substantially so what club am I actually hitting??? It very well may be a 40° at contact

Again where the flag became that chagrns my club selection. 150 to a back pin is a different shot and different club than 150 to a front pin.

I don’t have stock yardages because I have a choked down 1/2” and 1/4” shots with all clubs. I have a flighted shot with normal grip on the club as well as with a shorter backswing.

Normal conditions can vary by location. I can play a course that despite what the weather is like in the parking lot it will be windier on the certain holes. Or I can play a course that’s about 15 mins down the road and it has no wind on the same day. So normal conditions isn’t just some pain statement.

I've got so many iron sets that it all depends on the loft of the set. I enjoy playing older iron designs where the 7 iron is the loft of today's average 8 iron.

They still make plenty of irons with classic loft but you have to order any except the true players irons they are still classic lofted . The 7 Iron will be 35° instead of 27.5 to 30

I used to think it was my 8 iron, but my new clubs hit farther and in Mesquite I’m hitting my 8 at 160, and my 9 at 150. That’s at 1500 ft of elevation. I live at 6000 ft elevation. I’ve only played a couple rounds with my new irons at my home elevation so I’m not sure what they’re gonna do there until I get some more time with them at 6000 ft. I’ve been long on every iron shot here in Mesquite.

I could play golf every day and learn something new each time.

My 6i has become my favorite club that isn't a wedge. So, ask me a distance, I'll probably say "6". I have floated the idea of trying one lengths the same length as my current 6i but when that happens, I will somehow become a complete duff with it and hate it.
