#TOURSAUCE Do you do it?

Guys I have wanted to share something with you that I have followed for a while now. I think this is a fitting time seeing as I just played the worst round of tournament golf in my life, dropping a good old 88 in the final round of a club championship. 

I follow a twitter account called @nolayingup and they are hilarious. They get on tour players and generally try and have a good time. They were the ones who came up with #prayfortedscott if anyone remembers that. They even came up with something called Toursauce which me and my buddies do on the course from time to time and we find it absolutely hilarious. Think more Tiger in his prime or McIlroy than Furyk. Lots of club twirls and GO HARD (think Speith). My buddies and I do this stuff on the course just messing with each other and its gotten to be a fun sort of game. Especially when we play awful and have an outsider in the group who isn't aware of what we are doing. I thought I would share because I knew their writing and twitter account has brought me much joy and I thought you all would enjoy it. 

 

Do you do anything #TOURSAUCE in your game? Even before I knew about toursauce I was an advocate of the club twirl and talking to my ball (I was notorious for telling it to spin or sit).  I do them now on purpose just to try and one up my buddies and it gets pretty funny. I will let you know if I ever get to the point of signing a glove and giving it to someone when I hit a ball in their back yard. The look on their face would be priceless.

So are you guys guilty of any of the toursauce actions in the link above?

 

Edit: BTW my swing coach said that 88 was "all part of the process." We are working on a new move and my pattern is a little different than my previous one.

Whenever I make a putt I pick it up out of the hole and give the imaginary crowd a little tip of the cap.

I totally forgot to mention the "follow through club throw!" This is 100% my go to move and I don't even do it on purpose LOL my hands just automatically come off of the club when I know its gonna be a bad one. I don't think I could stop doing it if I wanted to haha

Haaa. I read that a week or two ago. Funny. In fact just this past weekend I sauced it a bit. My fav is after holing a putt to pick up the ball between two fingers and hold it up to the non-gallery. LOL

My personal go-to is telling a shot to "sit down" then realizing it's short and telling it to "go hard". I do it at least once a round. My playing partners have a field day with it.

I have been doing the Miguel Angel Jimenez thing of sheathing my putter like a sword everytime I pour a good putt in the hole or doing a bit of a dance.  It's an ugly version of his dance but it's definitely got sauce all over it

Yep, I actually say stuff like I'm "going through an equipment change", working with a new "swing coach" this summer and added 4 mph to my drives with the Paderson shaft...

If you don't have lofty expectations, you don't improve. The confidence you get from a good result will help push you up the ladder.

 

I think there is a time and place for acting like a pro and be calm when making birdies, like when playing with buddies in a fun round as a game like Undershooter stated. But I also think that showing some excitement on a great shot can help jump start your round. I am reminded of the Tiger uppercut years ago when he made a critical putt. That's good energy. The real key to a round is not showing emotion or getting down on yourself for the bad shots. Forget them, move on, act like a pro and bounce back on the next hole.

See your doing it all wrong Kfilly. You shouldn't have the club in your hands post follow through. Tiger's tour sauce game has gotten weak lately. Here is a much better representation of what you should be doing.

Oh god- I'm doing that next round! One of the groups I play in would LOVE this type of stuff!

I actually had the perfect opportunity to do this a few weeks ago and I kicked myself for not having a marker in my pocket. Just for the record, I absolutely love people watching when I play. Some of my buddies say that they get nervous if a group is letting them play through or if a bunch of people they don't know are standing by the green or tee box but I love it. What can I say, I like to show off 

Anyway, the story goes. Me and two of my other #toursauce buddies were playing the 8th hole at our home course. Its a par 3 off of the lake that my course is named for. Plays about 170-180 yards from the back tees and is a forced carry the whole way. What makes the hole extra difficult is the fact that the wind is always blowing hard coming off the lake and its either dead in your face or at your back. There was a group of drunk people in water in front of the green next to their boat. I'm surprised some hacker hadn't bladed one and hit one of them because they were in a pretty dangerous spot. Anyway they would cheer when you were on the box and then depending on the shot you hit, either boo or clab. Both of my partners bailed out to the right which is the safe miss and they got some boos. I hit mine about 15 feet passed the pin but directly online so it looked closer than it was. I got an eruption from the drunk "fans" and decided to give them small wave.

We get to the green and they are giving us all a hard time and doing the "GET IN THE HOLE" bit on every shot. Talking crap if it doesn't go in. I get over my putt and drill it to sheer joy of the "crowd." I gave them the Phil tip of the cap and headed back the cart. One of my buddies came up to me and asked why I didn't sign the ball and flip it to them. All I could come back with was "I don't have a marker." I was so disappointed with myself

I signed a ball today and gave it to the pro that I was playing with. Pulled my drive left into the junk and he told me I had zero chance to hit the green. Reassuring that he gave me zero chance! Hit a high cut 19* hybrid to four feet and rolled in the putt for a birdie. Pulled the ball out of the hole and signed it with the sharpie from my yardage book then flipped it to him. Only hole I actually played well today, but a good moment nonetheless.

 

Was also nice that he managed to make a 5 from the center of the fairway.
