Is that one up from the front tees or one up from the back tees? Either way it works for me. For all of our SIM players, we are playing the Old MacDonald course at Bandon Dunes Resort, tees TBD

Green Tees it is.

As an inducement for all of our SIM players there will be 300 bonus points awarded to the low round posted for the Old MacDonald course at Bandon Dunes Resort - Green Tees.

Also, on the off chance one or more of our members are playing this particular course in reality this week, you will also be eligible for the bonus points!

This went slightly better than the 92 with 41 putts yesterday. I normally play AVX or ProV1 but the greens were so fast I changed to the ProV1X today. Why? I like the feel of the ProV1 better and while the ProV1X “feels” faster off the face, I tend to hit it shorter with the putter. So since I was running the putts 6-8 past the hole yesterday, I could afford to come up shorter today.

This did help some but main difference was today was stroke play against a guy who said last week in the bar that I was very intimidating to play in Match Play because I was never really out of a hole. An example is today on Hole 1 he is on the green with a 20’ birdie putt. I was in the bunker. I hit it to 3” and now he had to 2Putt. Which he did. He was up 3 holes after 6. Although my par chip lipped out on 6. But I chipped it close on 7 and within 2” on 8. And then drained a 63’er for birdie on 9.

We went back and forth a few holes, but after I made par on 13 after wedging my ball from the weeds in the edge of the lake, I never trailed and won 3/1.

Considering it was low to mid 30s during my round and I felt like Ralphie's little brother, this was a great starting round for 2024.

My drives didn't roll out particularly far but I was putting and chipping great today. I had a few good looks at birdie but unfortunately I was only able to capitalize on #10. Ignore, the 24ft putt part lol. I didn't mark the pin position - in reality it was maybe 4-5 feet.image.png.da9d0496da728349afb9068d006f19c0.png

First round of the year in the books.  Wasn't much to write home about with a mix of good and bad shots.

I keep reminding myself that swing changes take time and I am going to have good and bad rounds.  The good shots help keep the spirits high.

Wow first day back was a cold one. Never got above 48 degrees. However, after several weeks in Norway, I felt fine. Won 25 bucks in our money game! Extremely happy with a solid 2 under round. Had 2 bogeys (one was just hitting too much club) the other a three putt from the fringe. Offset with 4 birdies. Hit 14 greens in regulation, 30 putts and 10 of 14 fairways. Solid round of golf! Let’s see what tomorrow brings!

Welcome back

Thank you Sir! I am still loving the Odin ball! I can’t put up the 100 birdies like RoverRick, but played a steady round.

That’s awesome! I got a round in with it last week and came away thoroughly impressed with the quality. They make a good ball.

The ball fits my game completely! Mid flight and cuts through the wind. Has enough length. Spins well enough on the greens. Seeing the one hop and stop. However, love the way it putts!

Mostly net birdies and usually offset by doubles. I played today and had just 1 real birdie, but lipped 3 out. Two of those with an 8 iron chip. But also had a couple of double bogies. Didn’t post the score here but net 73 with 5 birdies. And go back and look at Sundays round. It was spectacular. 92 with 41 putts with just 1 birdie.

Welcome back. You said it was cold today, a couple of hundred miles southwest of me. Wifey is out of town so I was up most of the night working. I went to get something out of my pickup at 4:52 am, and it was cold and misty. I stayed in bed until 11 thinking I wouldn’t play today and then went outside, and it was very nice. I played in a polo and shorts, mid 50’s.

Mid 50’s would have been welcomed. Never rose above 48 here today. However, the trip to Norway made it seem warm. I expect to see at least one round of eight birdies from you this week!

Maybe. Although 8 net birdies are a lot for me. Especially this time of year. It’s too cold and damp for me to have a good full swing all day long. 2 knee braces and an ankle brace and high top hiking boots just to complete 18 holes.

I had kind of a putting lesson after my round today. More like a discussion than a lesson. There was a  former teaching pro on the putting green. He was practicing with an Odyssey Broomstick.  We began discussing the LAB, and they were interested in my unique putting stroke. On all putts I look at the hole, but on long putts I point the club at the hole in the follow through. On short putts, I use a split hand grip and make more of a mini broomstick like stroke. (Wisk broom? 🤣

He seemed to think that the secret of my speed was the pointing at the hole. It was a very smooth stroke. And the split grip  and stable almost rigid lead side on short putts keeps me dead on line.

The interesting thing to me was the Odyssey Broomstick felt wobbly to me. I could really feel the face twisting.

Another of our pros played in my group today. I had a 15’er for birdie and putted it 6’ by and said, “That’s a good start to a 3-putt.” He thought that was the funniest thing. I made the come-backer but IMHO 3 putts are caused by 5 feet too long or too short not left or right.
