Hey!  That looks like ice in that glass!!!   :o

Absolutely! Cask strength bourbon is over proofed, supposed to be taken with a large, slow melting ice cube. Opens up the flavor!

Lord have mercy, it's been a long week! I've dealing with what refined gentlemen refer to as, "a bunch of BS" at work, didn't get to golf until today and when I did get out, I was stuck behind a wall on 5-some of novice golfers! I ended up playing like garbage too, shot an 80... through 15 when I called it quits!

I need a few of these tonight!!! attachicon.gifIMG_1181.JPG

I had all 8 bottle tops until my ex wife thought it was a good idea to sell them at her mom's garage sale.

Sorry to disagree..... the more alcohol (proof) the more flavor... alcohol carries flavor. You can drink your bourbon any way you like it, but there is no such thing as "over proofed".  ;)

I'm slamming down a few 16 oz Miller Lites as today's ball striking was pretty much embarrassing. Tomorrow however is a new day and I'm gonna be taking some poor fools arse to the woodshed!

Co-worker of mine just found a couple bottles up in NC.  The good stuff from the boys at Buffalo Trace is tough to come by around here.

Yes, adding water changes the profile of whisk(e)y. That does not mean it is "over proofed". If you want to learn about whisk(e)y/bourbon, go to Straight Bourbon.com... lots of info to be had by knowledgeable people that have been in the hobby for many years.

I like Jack too. It isn't what it once was, but It's still a decent pour. Have you had the Single Barrel? It's outstanding!

Single barrel is phenomenal, one of my favorites.

Perhaps, "over proofed" is not commonly used with bourbon (it's a rum thing) but it is literally, what many cask strength whiskies are! Over proof technically refers to a spirit distilled at greater than 115 proof (57.5% abv). This Belle Meade is 115.5 proof!

I was a bartender at a fancy pants whiskey bar for a few years (Seven Grand) and the general consensus among the snobs was that cask strength whiskies, particularly scotches open up and taste a bit better when water is added and the whiskey is allowed to breathe for a few minutes. For the really expensive stuff, guys tend to want that straight up. For me, if it's over 90 proof, I like to add a large, slow melting ice cube to keep the alcohol from overpower the other flavors.

Really, it's all personal preference, take it straight, with a cold stone, ice, etc. just don't mix it with coke!

FWIW, this Belle Meade would be very drinkable neat. Not particularly full bodied but sweet and the alcohol is very understated. Not bad but for the price I would prefer Booker's.

Happy drinking!

I prefer the large ice cube in most of my bourbon. Just started getting into more bourbons, never heard about letting them sit first. Thanks for the tip

I've been told that alcohol can be one of man's greatest enemies. While I may not be overly religious, I do remember that Jesus said to love your enemies.

Amen brother!!
