First indoor update from me. I've been a little under the weather this week, but did get a Stack session in on Wednesday that was average. I have yet to see much of any improvement in numbers on the Stack through 12 sessions, which is a bit disheartening.

I watched both of the Drew Cooper/TXG videos yesterday and took a few cues from him. I'm a lot like Ian in that I'm pretty stationary in my setup minus a little forward hip bump to start my backswing. Drew's feeling of starting to re-center by arms parallel to ground in the backswing was a very good feel for me, and one I'm going to keep working on. My tendency is to get stuck out over my back leg, and that re-centering feel is a good one to combat that.

Anyway, as I expected my irons are pretty solid indoors but my driver tends to lag a few MPH. It was not very warm in the garage (about 38 degrees), but I was rotating my RCT balls in and out of my pockets trying to keep them warm.

Long ways to go to reach 120 MPH, but I am happy about the ball flight. I did hit 116 with the driver once but the ball was blocked way right. I also saw 100.7 with the 6 iron but it was an overcooked draw so I'm not including them here.

Hang in there.  A lot of us that came from previous speed training didn't see instant jumps, but the results will come.

Hoping to get to the 130MPH mark with the driver. Gotta stay disciplined with the SS protocol. Anyone used the SS with the blast sensor? I am going to get going off of that. Trying to stay sharp in the winter means practicing my putting indoors and swinging hard! Working out M, W, F too.

Wish I could have entered but I have been away for a few weeks for personal and work related matters. Just started speed training last week and the suggestion of my instructor. I will be using the PRGR and the light orange whip. I noticed about 3 mph the first day during my lesson

Played around with a few speed feels in the garage yesterday afternoon. I was able to hit 102 with the 6 iron and 117 with the driver a few times. Nothing sustained as of yet, but some thoughts on what I'm working on in this quest.

A focus for me moving forward is going to be getting more width in my backswing. I think I can grab a few MPH with that, and I also think it might solve a few other problems I've been having with my swing.

For example, notice how "narrow" I am at club shaft parallel, with my hands barely passing my thigh (sorry for the rear view, I can't film face on in my garage easily):

snapshot_20221120_092601.jpg.208b2496949e9ed10c7d751d32724cb5.jpg

Compare that to some of the higher swing speed guys out there (Rory, Drew Cooper, Kyle Berkshire):

Just something I'm going to key in on over the next few sessions.

Check in #1 - 110 mph

Instructor has me focussing on shifting towards the target in the downswing. Hanging back, jumping up/extending and rotating. Trying to add that on top of the Drew Cooper moves. The smother hooks persist from the end of the season. But I’m going to try to keep hitting the ball as hard as possible.

Good luck. I’m scared to go on this rabbit hole for speed. My instructor and I realized I had to think only going half way back instead of thinking full. What actually happen was my full was more like Daly than being nice at the top. I was also struggling with smother hooks with everything

I guess I'd wonder in your case how you're getting to that Daly-like top of the backswing.  If you've been doing this by allowing your arms and wrists to relax and fold, then the "half way back" feel you're describing could actually contribute to a wider swing arc, and in turn possibly more speed.  Point being, I wouldn't necessarily assume that the change your instructor is trying to get you to make will compromise your ability to generate speed.

Just a thought, but the images you posted kind of look to me like maybe you could benefit from more/earlier hip turn?  I see what you mean and don't disagree that getting your hands wider would be helpful, but it also seems to me that you're seeing more daylight between hips and hands in the pros images because they (especially Berkshire) have turned their hips more, whereas you look maybe still parallel to the target line in your hips?

Like I said, I'm certainly no expert, but maybe food for thought...

Same boat if I started lifting again I know with just a little bit of getting back into it I could get to the lower body goals but bench press would take a long time to get there.

Interesting point and I think is a good point to call out given we are looking at 2D images, it can make it hard to see what exactly causes that daylight we see.

Last Friday I had to do my Stack workout on a somewhat slick basketball court floor, and my speeds really suffered and maybe my motivation with it.  VERY relieved and excited to hit a new set PR of 109 with the 195g set today!

This time through Full Speed Spectrum has been more of a grind, but I'm pleased to see I'm still getting some benefit from it.  My Grit score is about to take a hit...can't do my second to last workout until next Monday due to Thanksgiving travel.  Honestly though, not too concerned...I suspect the rest will do me good.  We'll see.

Yeah, we'll see where this goes. Some of what I've been referencing also includes the height of the hands at P2 in relation to the belt line and hands in relation to feet (which is in relation to shoulders at address).

I've barely rotated my shoulders or hips at P2 and my hands are well below my waist line. Pretty sure I'm just picking the club up and setting it (which was originally a band-aid given to me by my coach to stop dragging the club under and inside a few years back).

Going to try the thought of pushing a 2x4 as far back as I can with the clubhead. Hoping to get in the garage again tonight.

Finally jumped into my training yesterday, after an embarrasing display during the club championship. Started with fit for golf off season program and the stack full speed spectrum. Yes I can feel it today. 🤪 The stack started me with a progress check and one thing was super interesting to me. Without a ball I was 110-111 cruising. With a ball 107-108. Probably normal for most people however in my past Stack sessions I was always the opposite. I did have an epidural for my bulging disc's about a month ago and for the first time in over 4 years I can actually move!! Truly believe 115 will be easy and may make a push towards 120.

Driver speed check at 112 today on slippery grass/clay. May check tomorrow on the range since I’ll be on more stable footing. Interestingly, my stomp averages are gaining. Using my heaviest setting I’m up to 110 on avg this week (105 last week) mid weight at 117 (109 last week) and lightest staying out at 129.

So... a question for those of you who have been through speed training... how long does it take to lose what you have gained?  I ask because for various reasons (including most recently a copious amount of Thanksgiving Dinner and Desserts) I haven't done my protocol sessions for a little over a week.  Plan to get back on the horse today... but almost afraid of what I will find... Just curious how fast the training gains are lost without the training sessions.

My last session I touched 95 with my baseline driver... which was 4.5 mph increase since starting...

One week shouldn't impact you too much (assuming you have at least swung a club otherwise?). You might have one or two sessions that are slower, but my experience is that the speed comes back pretty quickly if you lose anything at all.

Thanks Edingc.  I won't be discouraged with my first session or two if they go backwards... I was hoping your answer was what I can expect...
