Back to back eagles, hit a par 5 in two and drained a 20 footer and next hole a short par four I rolled in a 54 degree wedge from 35 yards off the green.  First time 2 birdies in one round and back to back.  Terrible day putting I would have been in the 70’s.  BTW this is my 5th posting

Cobra Anniversary challenge of only Woods, hybrids, and wedges. I started my round by hitting the fairway, punching a 5 hybrid to 12 feet and made the putt for a birdie/net eagle. Played solidly after that, I think knowing I was playing for a handicap score and not just my actual score took pressure off and it was honestly the most relaxed round I've had in a long time.

Trinity Forest GC. Home to the Byron Nelson as recently as 2019. While it is in the Trinity Forest, there isn’t a tree on the 350 acre course. Nor is there shade. 101° at tee time. We teed off at 2:30 Tuesday afternoon and the starter told us, “The group behind you tees off tomorrow morning.” I drank a bottle of water every hole and didn’t need to go to the restroom until 11:30pm. 
 

I absolutely striped the ball for the first 9 holes and and last 5. On 10-12, I was all over the planet. The Par 5 10th fairway looked 100 yards wide, I missed left on the tee shot and right on the next, and left on the approach. A birdie on 9, triple on 10 and 2 doubles 11&12 and birdied 13. 
 

it was pristine course. The fairways were immaculate, the tee boxes perfect, and the greens sublime. The greens were lightning fast, smooth, and true. There were HARD. They required perfect pitches and putts. I did not have many of those. For the most part I was 30’ from the flag and then putted 12’ passed the hole. Remarkably, I made at least 12 of the comebackers.

We played Cowboys GC 7am this morning. It couldn’t be more different than Trinity Forest. It wasn’t in pristine shape like Trinity Forest, but a nice club. The clubhouse however, is second to none. 
 

I didn’t strike the ball nearly as well today. I’m still recovering from the heat Tuesday. My putting was much better. Although the caddie at TF remarked several times about how well I was putting, I felt like I was much better today. 
 

I wasn’t planning on playing Cowboys, and stayed in a hotel that night, I’m still in the hotel tonight, but I had my bag set up to play Trinity Forest. TF is a flat, links course with lots of low undulations. I had 2-4-5 irons in the bag. Cowboys is very standard type course with some elevation changes. I wished I would have had the 3 hybrid this morning.
 

Although I can’t say it would have made any difference in the score.

Played my best round of the year.  I played again today at the facility I played the scramble at yesterday. Grapevine Golf Course in Grapevine TX.  It’s  a 27 hole golf club with each 9 having a name, Pecan, Mockingbird and Bluebonnet.  I played Pecan and Mockingbird,  the same 9s I played in the scramble, 6400-6500 yards.  Birdied the first parred the 2nd, bogeyed the 3rd.  Parred 4 and 5.  Bogeyed 6 and 7 by driving into hazards which I didn’t think I could reach.  Parred 8 and 9 for +2 38 on the first 9.  Parred 1 birdied 2 and parred 3 through 9 lipping out two birdie putts inside 12 feet for -1 35 on the second 9.  One over 73 in which I hit 12 of 14 fairways and 12 greens.  29 putts.  I hope this is a sign of things to come for the rest of the year.  I’ll find out tomorrow.

If you were there this morning, you may have had to dodge at least 3 balls. Not mine, I was in the fairway, but the other 3 in my foursome hit into that course.

Not a bad round. But definitely a frustrating round. The course finishes with 4 straight par 4’s, I had putts within 10 feet for birdie on all 4, settled for par on all 4. That coupled with a double and a triple on the front, leave me thinking that breaking 70 wasn’t out of the realm of possibility for this round. Alas, if wishes and buts…

On a slightly more positive note, I was mashing the driver tonight. The best of which was:

Course in decent shape, we need rain... greens though were quick and soft.

Played ok but this course will grab you when you least expect it. It's a good challenge for all levels of golf.

Just pick this up at a golf outing by winning the longest putt.

Today, my approach, chipping and putting saved me!  

I had five up and downs, only 26 putts and ten one putts.  Only one double bogey all day and saved one when I was able to recover when a drive ended up in a hazard area.  

Uncharacteristically lower percentage of fairways hit at 57%.  My general iron play was so-so.  My Edison wedges were on all day, especially with my distance control.  The Paradym X iron shots left a little to be desired.  Hopefully next week I can schedule some time with one of our assistant pros to straighten a few things out.

At least I was in the "net-red" numbers for a change!!

This is my Challenge round against Mr. Nut (first name: Tom, middle name: The Golf).  I am sure he will wipe the floor with me on this Woods and Wedges Challenge. 

I got to the course and found that I left my Hybrid and 7 iron at home... So this round was played with a Driver, 3 Wood, 5 Wood, 50 degree Wedge, 56 degree Wedge, and my putter.  The amazing thing to me... I actually hit 9 of 18 greens with my 5 wood as my all purpose approach club.  The only hole I didn't have 5 wood in, was a par 5 on the back... After hitting Driver, 3 wood, I had 115 to the pin... I hooded my 50 and came up just short of the green.  I was chipping well, and putting well.. or this could have been a REALLY ugly round.  

On a separate note... I warmed up with, and dropped a few balls through the round to hit my new Test MacGregor MT86's and I have to say, these are out performing my expectations already.  Haven't put them actually head to head with the Paradyms or the Stealths yet... but there was nothing about these clubs that would keep them out of my bag so far... And they have a flush feel that is noticeably better than the Paradyms... I am early impressed.

Been on a heater this past week - not often I post a score here twice.  But the putting stats were too good not to share - the AimPoint lesson is paying big dividends.  

I clearly lost my mind for a bit.  Not accustomed to shooting even par for 10 holes... My brain quickly took care of that.  Funny how that works.  Oh well, gotta see what I can learn from that experience.

What a difference a day makes. Rebound! Today ball striking was spot on. The main thing that set up the day was the Paradym TD driver. It was on fire today! The bad was punched greens. This round should have been 66! The greens were terrible to be kind! However, still made a natural eagle and two birdies. Missed several others inside five feet. I am very pleased with the Callaway Paradym TD driver and the Paradym irons!!
