Titleist T350 Fitting

Fittings are Fun!

Playing clubs without being FIT (and I’m not talking about dropping down and giving me 20) is like trying to pick a banjo with ya big toe. It won’t sound pretty and most likely will sound like a baby piglet hollering for his Mama’s tit. We understand for some folks it’s not always easy to get FIT due to circumstances out of your control however for those of you who can, get off you’re arse and get er done.  You’ll thank me later.

I arrived at Athens CC which is 11 miles or 16 minutes from my house and when you arrive on their grounds you think you have kicked the bucket and landed in golfing Heaven. It’s a beautiful place to say the least and their driving range was awesome too!

My fitter Mr. Adam Oshberg is well respected in the Titleist family as a premier Fitter and after working with him I have no doubts about his high rating. They say you can’t make a fine purse out of a sow’s ear but let me tell ya, if Adam can help an old hack like me hit quality shots, he’s close to parting the red sea.  Great personality and calmness that spreads over your nerves like butter on a hot cathead biscuit. Yea Adam is the man and I am very fortunate to have worked with him.

He had me warm up with my Callaway DCB 7 iron to compare with the Titleist T350 irons that I will be reviewing. I have taken all the extra shots out of the results to only show the average given. The T350 7 iron is 29 degrees while the DCB is 30. Actually, the overall specs between the two sets are dead on equal with a degree here and there. I’ll show ya my 7-iron average first.

7ironGamer.jpg.5fcbb88e2f9ba260590f135470141295.jpg

You have to take into consideration I will be 73 in a couple of months so my swing speed won’t be howling like a tornado on steroids.  Now we’ll see what the difference is with the standard T350 7 iron with the results below.  Hmmmmm now this looks a bit discerning. It's less than my gamer. 😳

7iT350.jpg.335652dc977e141947a288f2b53a77b8.jpg

In all fairness with the standard or I call em off the shelf specs I was hooking it like a hawt chick on a Saturday night ladies of the night convention. That and sometimes you try to impress your fitter by raring back and smoking that ball.  Bad choice.  All that ended up smoking was that poor fool hiding behind the trees on the left side of the range. Now let’s move on to where the tires hit the pavement. Adam had me figured out by now.  He said boy we need to work on your alignment cause you are aligned so far to the left you half way to Atlanta on your follow-through! He pulled out one of those sticks you can bend to show how I was bottoming out way before the ball with the way open stance I was using. I was drop-kicking that ball like Uncle Rufus use to kick old Monroe’s arse at report card time.

Once he had me square up with an alignment rod he began his magic. He didn’t have the UST Recoil Dart Senior Shafts that I had in my DCB irons so he put me in a Mitsubishi Fubuki MV IR A Flex Shaft. He took me down from a ½ inch + length to standard at 2 degrees flat.

Fitting3.jpg.3d4953844d98f3041f3d89458adf6365.jpg

Look at the difference below and how the height went up nicely. I’m a picker of the ball so my ball flight has taken a drastic cut in height. I’m thinking these T350 irons will be the ticket for a higher flight with a much better landing angle.  I’m pumped!

Next up TSR1 Hybrids with the Mitsubishi MMT Speedmesh 50 HYB TSR Shaft Flex Lite

Fitting2.jpg.e8d6cdc03a341a0fcef47c5ced78b68b.jpg

Since the irons worked so well with 2 degrees flat he set the hybrids open and those hard left shots disappeared like money at the county fair!

Thank ya baby Jesus!

The 5 Hybrid comes in at 23 degrees with a B-1 hosel fit.
The 4 Hybrid comes in at 20 degrees with a B4 hosel fit

SureFitHoselSettings.jpg.4caeebf67e0d48e4064052203bd51700.jpg

The 23-degree 5 Hybrid put a good lick on the ball with a total yardage of 170.2

5HybridOnB1.jpg.47f53b9fa357dd1cbe81065940a0c9de.jpg

Last but not least the 20-degree 4 Hybrid pulls the curtains down with a mighty blast! 💣
Note:  It says 6H but I’m all but I'm pretty sure this was the 4H 😁

6Hybrid.jpg.f49a5f611f53d9bc638a97998ad3e720.jpg

Now we are anxiously waiting for these irons to show up so we can bring you the real goods!  Lots of pics, videos, and information galore.

Take care now ya hear!

now that was a fun read, by the time I got past the 1st. paragraph I didnt even care about the fitting, although it sounds like he fixed your "hooking it like a hawt chick on a Saturday night ladies of the night convention" which is good, your use of the english language definitely is unique, I am enjoying it...

Great fitting recap Ole Gray, I felt like I was right there beside you.    The Titleist fitter that has fit me for my last 2 sets of irons and driver retired shortly after my fitting in June...hmh?  Should I take anything from that 🙂

But it sounds like a road trip to Athens to see Adam for the TSR fitting next summer, might be a thing.  Sounds like a great guy to work with.   But in truth just about everyone of the Titleist fitters I've run across are fantastic.

Really great info in your fittings…I’ve only had one as I’m new to golf and feel like I missed out on a lot of great info. Might have to see a Titleist fitter depending on how these reviews check out!

Now that the fittings have been completed, the orders have been submitted, and we are patiently awaiting  those shipping confirmations, we are entering the testing doldrums. Rather than let this thread go dormant, I’m putting a call out to the membership to share their favorite Titleist clubs. I’ll start with 2 of my favorites:

1) Scotty Cameron California Monterey

IMG_1100.jpeg.ee15b4488a61488e5ab65ccd71f25613.jpeg

IMG_1101.jpeg.7ac2a044f15f05a7a9cdaf049eb91346.jpeg

IMG_1102.jpeg.c79f7c5613e699c73518a176ce0f94f7.jpeg

This was the first new Titleist club I owned and it stayed in the bag from 2009 until last winter when I bought an Evnroll ERv7 to try out a mallet.

2) Vokey 60* wedge

IMG_1103.jpeg.562481a34e581dd5c635ff67198c8dc0.jpeg

IMG_1104.jpeg.e083529e31cde55c275c93ac679f0410.jpeg

IMG_1105.jpeg.3a23b19d76c1e754f17cae3f952a0c7e.jpeg

I picked this up second hand in 2006 and it stayed in the bag well past it’s sell by date, finally getting replaced with a 58* MG3 last fall. I still like to hit flop shots with it in the back yard but the grooves are almost nonexistent at this point.

What’s your favorites?

I can’t speak for everyone. But we get great service at our course from Fed Ex.   Rarely ever a delay from the scheduled arrival date.   And when there is, it’s usually due to weather somewhere in the route.

@Ben Joest, love the write up thus far and great insights over the fitting process!

It differs quite drastically here in South Africa, where we utilise mostly an expert who has a setup at our local Golf Chain stores.

I am more motivated now than before that I need to go for a fitting when I upgrade my irons.. eventually..

You're lucky. I've had nothing but bad with FedEx as of late. Nothing has been on time lately and their prices are far higher (not delivery related I know). Hopefully that won't be the case for any of the testers. *fingers crossed*

I'll be following along intently, as this go round I have yet to get any time for a fitting on these.  Usually when any Titleist product comes out, I'm on it but life gets in the way some times.

I really want to see the results of the T200 & T350 irons this year.  I think I'm leaning towards a GI iron from here on out.  I'm not getting any younger 😉

Looks like a great team to test the TItleist irons….looking forward to following their respective journeys.  I have always had an affection for TItleist, looking to get my old 962’s back that have been on loan to a friend.  Spoiled with the T300 irons/TS2 driver/fairway/hybrid “rental” set I played while in the DR this past June at LaCana.  Go hit ‘Em we’ll guys!

This isn’t about the irons, per se. But rather Titleist adjacent. I got out to the range this evening to try out the TSr3 driver that I picked up yesterday when I returned the T100s irons within the 30 day window. Sweet leaping Jesus! do I like this club. One range session and it might be my favorite Driver I’ve owned. It. Just. Goes. Coupled with the time I got to spend on the practice green with the new Scotty, and topped off with a round of putt-putt with Emma, my oldest and this evening was perfect. I’ll leave you with this

I just go with what the fitter says, and the ultimately decide, that is a really good setup and it works for me.   But this other setup sounds fun and wonder what it would be like, so additional clubs and shafts get ordered 🙂

Been great to read through the fitting experiences and stories. These guys have done an excellent job recapping their experiences and the level of excitement in the chat has been off the charts.

I know the wait is going to feel like forever, but who knows ... maybe at the end of the longest wait in golf they will have found their forever set?

Personally I am very curious how the T200 guys get on with theirs. I liked, enjoyed, but didnt fall in love with the T200 I hit. In fact the T150 seemed for me a better looking and fit and while the numbers were slightly better, they were not that much better. Maybe it was more because I had gone from hitting the T100 series nearly the whole fit?

Shaft choice is also one that has me fascinated. With so many options, so many profiles it will be thrilling to see how these end up working for all of them.

For a while I thought the T150's on their own were going to be the golden boy of this test.  Then I read what Ben, Bill and Greg have experienced through fitting with mixed sets and the new technology with the 200 & 350's...

I have a good feeling we are going to read about some legit technology and improvements in these clubs.  I am excited.

This dovetails with something I have been pondering the last few days. This is an irons test, but for all of us this is just as much a test of the methods we used to arrive at the sets we will be testing. Without the fitting, I am testing the T150’s 4-PW, most probably with different shafts and standard L/L/L. I am a decent ball striker, so I could make that work, but the numbers would most likely resemble the baseline numbers I recorded with the T100s set. I am excited to see where, if at all, this configuration exceeds the standard set. As you mentioned in another post, I am less concerned with distance gains than I am with dispersion and consistency. Although, if added distance is the by-product of the T200, I am sure I’ll make do somehow 😁

So I'm sure in your fitting with Jim?  He mentioned that they are looking for the 3 D's in a fitting.   That I think is the cornerstone to all their fittings with this series.

For those that haven't been to a Titleist Fitting the Three D's are:

Distance Gapping:  The ideally want 5 mph difference between each subsequent club. So, say your 7-iron ball speed is 100, they want your 6 iron to be 105 and your 8 iron to be 95 and they try to fit to that.

Dispersion: Speaks for itself, see Ole Grays trackman chart for the circles how tight the landing spot of each shot is.

Descent: They are looking for the ball to be coming into the green on a no less than 45-degree angle, ideally somewhere around 46 to 47, that along with the spin will assure it stopping on the green versus landing and running out.

So total distance of the iron isn't be all end all they are looking for in fittings.  As Ben said above, if it happens to come along then that's fine, we'll figure it out as well.

I think their fitting methods and the 3D's is probably why my 50th b-day fitting will be with Titleist and not just a vendor agnostic fitter (CC, TrueSpec, Cool Clubs). Everything I see on certain YT channels around Titleist and their fitters and coaches has me thinking they're really the ones to work with if I'm going to spend the time and money to do it right this time around.

Having gone through an iron fitting previously at Golf Galaxy, I can attest to the night and day difference between the two. The Titleist fitting experience far exceeded the GG, in terms of attention to detail and complete satisfaction with the experience. It is well worth the $100.

I did a GG fitting back in 2020 when I finally got rid of my Ping G15's that were 12 years old. It was a pretty bad fitting experience to say the least.

I did 3 fittings at PXG from 2020-2022, one full bag, one long game, and one iron. They were night and day better than GG was, so I can only imagine how much better Titleist would be out at Oceanside TPI.

I had two fittings with PXG, one in the PHX store for driver about 4 years ago.  It was just just OK, the numbers with the PXG were very similar to my Titleist at the time and he kept trying to spin them in a way that the PXG was better.

Then I had and iron fitting at the PXG store in DC area when it opened.  It was fantastic, nothing but trying to help me and when the numbers showed the PXG Gen 5 weren't any better than my T300 Ihad a the time, he said there was no reason to buy them other than just wanting new clubs.   He knew how to get to me....ha

That said, even it paled in comparison to the Titleist fittings I've had, both at TPI and the one locally for these T350.

I just go with what the fitter says, and the ultimately decide, that is a really good setup and it works for me.   But this other setup sounds fun and wonder what it would be like, so additional clubs and shafts get ordered 🙂

Shafts is a rabbit hole that with irons can  get very expensive. I am also curious what shaft guys playing the T150s will pick.  I tried a few higher end graphite iron shafts and the feel differences were noticeable but the GC Quad numbers were not hugely different among the 2-3 contenders I ended up with. The prices of some of these shafts were eye opening for sure.
