Played a very nice course that made its entry in the top 50 public courses in Canada following some changes that they made since last time I played there about 8 years ago.

Roller coaster round under a constant drizzle. Driver wasn’t cooperating for the first 12 holes. Incurred 4 penalty strokes including two drives OB. Also triple bogeys due to mental mistakes/tiredness/pissed off-ness…

Had 2 gross birdies but should have been 4 as I left easy birdie putts SHORT mostly due to wet greens.

Frustrating day for me, I have only played that course 1 time before and the greens were tough. I hit the ball amazingly well tee to green, just couldn't putt to save my life. I had 16 GIRs but took 39 putts, and that includes 4 three-putts! It was awful but that course is towards the mountains and everything breaks weird towards the valley so it is so hard to trust or see. It was just one of those days that could have been magical but just came up short. All good, another tournament next monday at a course I know pretty well. If I can hole a few putts I should be able to score really well.

Wow my front nine was absolutely amazing! I felt like I was playing great. However, the back 9 at Hulman is absolutely my worst nightmare: narrow with trees on both sides, as well as strong doglegs that I can't cut due to high trees. My distance means very little on that back nine, and it shows. I still feel like I put up a good showing for match play this week though, which is good I also dropped my handicap from 23.7 to 22.1, so definitely a great score! Also, for the record, the greens at Hulman tend to be huge, rolling, and decently quick, leading to a lot of 3 putts, especially when putting from the fringe

Today was a strange game for me.  Everything backwards!  First, we started on the back as they were doing work on the irrigation system on a few holes on the front.  Second, typically if I par holes, they typically are the ones outside the holes where I don't get strokes.  Today, I pared the three of the five toughest holes.  

All in all, I hit a different a decent percentage of the fairways (then again my drives tend to be relatively short), I only had one green in regulation but only had 29 putts and five up and downs.  

The frustrating part is my putting has gotten better over the last several weeks.  On my two putts, my second putts typically were all within 18 inches from the hole (both right, left, long and just short).  It's one of those things that I keep trying and eventually they will drop!  Our greens are not in the best shape right now with some diseased areas, recently aerated and installation of new irrigation components.  By December, the project should be completed and we'll have a better than ever course.  Until then, I keep on trying!

Just in case you haven't had a chance to play the Southernmost golf course, here's the par three 8th hole tee box.  It's a 146 yard carry over mangroves to a green that slopes away from you with traps in front and back.  The mangroves have been trimmed recently, so you can at least see the front of the green.  Welcome to my golf world!

The day started at 5am.

For those of us in Singapore who don't belong to a club, this is a normal drill if we decide to play internationally. (It's kinda cool to be able to play a round overseas and be back home in time for lunch, but I digress.)

Woke up early this morning in order to beat the traffic jams at the land border crossings between Singapore and Malaysia. Played on the Legacy Course at Forest City Golf Resort, which is about 20 min after the immigration centre in the Malaysian state of Johor. Forest City has 2 course, the Legacy designed by Jack Nicklaus, and the Classic by Liang Guo Kun.

Great weather this morning. It was relatively cool from some scattered showers overnight, and there was a gentle breeze to keep things fresh. The sun was just breaking through the clouds as we putted out the first hole. 

Overall, it was a decent driving day for me. Drives were longer than last week and I hit more fairways (9/14). But I found myself at the beach more than I ever have in the past 6 months. And I couldn't read the speed on the greens, leaving too many putts 6-8ft short, or blowing it by 10ft.

We finished up in under 4 hours and got back across the border just before a massive storm system blew in. I doubt many folks managed to complete their rounds today with the lightning striking non-stop for the past 4 hours.

Unfortunately a gross 92 doesn't help my hdcp, and in fact bumps it the wrong direction because a previous low differential drops off. 

Oh well, try again next week.

Putter was on fire today. Had 28 putts which is a record low for me.

I managed to get myself out of multiple bad situations thanks to my iron play as my driver continued to make my golf life absolutely miserable. I am at a loss for words describing this area of my game…

I managed to log 3 gross birdies and 7 gross pars for 1 net eagle and 8 net birdies!

So...wow. Lol. You really wanted to put the dagger in this week, eh? Congrats!!! I'm still picking my jaw up off the ground after looking at that front 9 - we've got our work cut out for us, that's for sure.  But hey, who says I can't go out and break 80 this week (for the first time ever)?

Well, all I can say is - What a day!!  I have never played this well consistently for almost every shot.  Bad shot - no problem - picked the right club and got out of it.  I've only been below 100 like 3 times before and just barely.  I even had 2 male members in front of me saying "nice shot" "nice drive" "nice putt"!

I'll take a game like this any day!

Today was the first round with my new irons. It didn’t go as well as I had hoped. I can’t blame the irons. First I didn’t have my best swing, I had high hopes for a new transition move that didn’t pan out, I was questioning the distances the new irons traveled, the wind was 20-25mph, and there was a 45 minute lightning delay between holes 2&3. We basically played the first 6 holes in the rain. Of course, the bottom line is I didn’t make great contact with the ball and once again relied on my short game to get me out of trouble. 
 

There is always Friday and the weekend. Although I will not likely play the shorter tees then. I did today because that’s where the others in my foursome played. Of course I give up 3 strokes to play from there. 
 

My course handicap was an 11 Friday and a 9 today but a 6 from these tees. It didn’t help.
