You aren't kidding! Cost me $8 in my matches and the worst part was that every one of them ended in a lost ball and ultimately a double bogey...3 of the 4 were from the middle of the fairway after beautiful drives.

Had a game I'd rather forget yesterday in the midweek medal. Nothing at all seemed to be working, topped drives - thinned wedges - terrible reads on the green...Just awful! 

On to Saturday and my 1st greensomes...hopefully I find some ability before then.

Played at a friend's club yesterday and conditions were phenomenal.  Greens as you might imagine rolled perfectly.  I putted better than I have in a long time.  Still had a couple where my speed was a little off, but all of the others had wonderful pace and started on my line.  I made 3 birdies and burned the edge on 4 more.  Could have been a special day if you take away a the TWO DOUBLES I had (dumb mistakes).  Driving also cost me a couple strokes, it's been good most of the year so just chalking it up to a bad day.

Played Wolf again this week.  I showed up and there were only 3 of us.  That means we had to Wolf every hole when it was our turn.  No partners!  We actually kept trading quarters or pushed on many holes.  The other guys each lost a quarter, and I won 2 quarters when it was all over.  

Tuesday was a good day, and I was happy with an 82... only having one double.  Today, I had two doubles, but still shot 38/41 for 79.  The two doubles came on holes 11 and 12; must have gone to sleep.  I was the low score; next guy shot 80 and the 3rd guy shot 86.

... The only thing better at age 68 than age 66 ... is it is easier to shoot your age.  So shooting 2 strokes under my age was a very nice bonus. Swing change was dialed in today and only a few bad swings. We played Ambiente at 6327 as it was really wet and CPO. I think CPO actually helped my focus and the walking kept me loose. Irons were on fire but the star of the day was my putter. We golfers love to say "I could have shot even lower" but today I could have shot even higher without a red hot putter. 9 one putts and the headliner was hole #14. Drive plugged in the fairway and my 5 wood left me with about a 40yd pitch out of a divot and digging it out the ball went to the back of the green. 40 foot putt down a tier and a right to left break at the hole, so I am trying to lag it close enough for a tap in and it falls dead center of the hole. Best putting day ever without a doubt. Had 3 more putts fall from around 15 feet all of them center hole and did not miss anything inside 12 feet. I would LOVE to bottle todays stroke and reads. 

... Paul, my playing pard broke 90 for the first time in years and said on the 2nd hole he thought today was gonna be special for both of us. I just missed an 18 footer on the par 3 second hole and had a 2" tap in and motioned for Paul to hit it back to me and he said "No! Low rounds for us today so no gimmies. Even from 1" we hole out every putt!"  4 Birdies on the front and the MIM's were flag hunting every hole and I did not miss a green until #11 with a front pin and a tier behind it so came up a little short and putted from the fringe. #12 was my only hiccup with a weak tee shot and a marginal approach shot, a pitch that came up woefully short, checking instead of releasing and I thought the magic was over. Then I birdied 3 holes in a row. I was a little pumped up on #18 as a birdie would tie my personal best and I hit a 9 iron from 140yds 20 feet long and right over the pin. Putt broke more than I read but still had a 6" tap in. Fwiw the greens were soft and other than 2 sucker pins, I went right at every flag today. 

... I have a T200 fitting Saturday. Why I have no idea.

Got a wild hair up my a$& and wanted to see if my Arccos tags still worked, 2 years after I quit using them. Well, I set up a backup bag using Wilson Triton driver, Bombtech 3W, Tour Edge 4H, Ben Hogan Ptx 4-PW, Ben Hogan Tk-15 Wedges 49/53/57 and an Evnroll ER-6R putter.

Results: 48/48:96 

I reviewed the Arccos data and only had a few corrections, penalties & using the same club twice in less than 5 minutes….

I did notice that Arccos has updated their dashboard stats now showing Strokes Gained.

Now to figure out what worked and what didn’t before Saturday’s game.

Played decent in the front nine par*6.  Double *3 My iron off the tee was poor hook, push   Double /double /double 
Also top a 5 wood   

My driver was excellent and my wedge play was good enough to save 4 up and downs   Still having problems at the 75 - 100 yards Wedge but all other distances were dailed in today 
Putting was decent but left a lot out there

... I have no doubt the Big Miss will disappear as I become more comfortable with the change, other than the once in a blue moon bad swing that everyone suffers from. 

Your description of the swing change type, and the resulting occasional miss sound exactly like my change, and what I see on-course. Pretty crazy.

Couple of unremarkable rounds (83 and 82) earlier this week, but point together a better round yesterday:

- 39/40 = 79 (+7)
- 6/15 FIR
- 5/18 GIR (1 birdie)
- 27 Putts (9 2-putts, 9 1-putts)

Really good round for my short game and putter. I had been struggling on the greens recently and found an old Lee Trevino video that recommended "wringing the towel," with the handle. It firmed up my grip quite a bit and my speed control improved. 

I've been driving the ball OK, and my irons were better this round but cost myself two strokes by hooking a 9 iron out of bounds trying to lay up on a par 5. One of my two double bogies that I just haven't been able to avoid lately.

No golf for a few days. The remnants of tropical storm Fred reached Central New York and my home course is closed for a few days due to all of the water on the course. The constant running of my basement sump pump concurs.

Got out for an early one today, but showed up late and didn't really get any warmup swings.  

I gave the driver a timeout today and took 3W off the tee.  Only hit a couple fairways, but the misses were just in the first cut.  So it paid off.  Putting was another story. I ended up with 22 putts (one 4 and three 3 putts).  It was frustrating and I need to work on speed control.  

Overall I hit my irons really well and generally felt pretty good.  Ended up with a 52, but saw a lot that I liked!

... I have to admit it is an easier swing on my body as well as more consistent when I am in sync. It is also pretty easy to over use the body off the tee when going for max distance since it is still new. And it doesn't take a lot right? Just moving the body a little too fast and it results in a big push or an occasional pull. For me at least, the biggest difference is the scoring irons because I am taking a little fuller turn with no over swinging since it is a short shot and accuracy is the goal, not distance. I think we are on to something!

Played in the NW Open this last Monday-Wednesday at Wine Valley in Walla Walla and shot +1 to finish T46 the 3 days. I left a lot out there with 4 double bogies and 5 3-putts (including 1 3-putt par) but its still progress an d momentum in the right direction.

Son and I played 18 this morning.  Early (for us) tee time but there was still a bit of waiting early on.  Holes 1 and 2 are pretty closed off but 3-4-5 open up and once the lead foursome saw several groups backing up behind them they started to pick up the pace so things were quicker from there out.  I couldnt get out of my own way on the first hole and shot an eleven (+7).  Took a few more holes to settle myself down and I even had a few pars on the back nine.  Shot 114, son an 88.  Had a few epiphany moments where my grip or my swing or my aim (rarely all three at once) come together and then I chase that high for the rest of the day.  I've come to realize that I don't follow through on my swing very well.  I made a concerted effort to do better and absolutely crushed a five wood on a second shot about thirty yards beyond the green.  So while the score wasn't great, the process is coming along.  A good feeling when I hit a distance or a spot that previously seemed out of reach.

Weather was really good, only lost a couple of balls.  Already looking forward to the next one on Sunday!

Amen! It’s taken a lot of pressure off of my low back, syncing the arms and body is the key! When it’s on it’s been really good!

Today was our monthly senior scramble.  The organizer screwed up and placed my team on the forward tees and said we had to play there because of the distribution of teams...whatever....anyway, it's a handicap game and at the forward tees, our handicaps were 0, 3(me), 6, and 8.  Given that the other teams on those tees typically have handicaps >15, we'd better make a lot of birdies....well, we made 12 birdies and one eagle for a 58.  Handicap will be 50% of our total, I think.  We did leave a couple of birdies out there, but we also made some big putts to save birdies.  One hole (par 3) was 3 blind mice with tiny holes (3 holes on the green, no flag, and the holes were just slightly larger than the ball).  We had a 15 or so foot putt from out best ball.  First guy ran it by the hole by quite a bit.  I stepped up to putt and was thinking that all I wanted to do was have great speed for an easy par.  Well, it went in the hole for the bird!    All in all, we had fun, even from tees we weren't used to playing, although it did put a lot of pressure on our 45-70 yard shots!  Oh yeah, one other caveat was that of the 4 players, there was a maximum of 5 drives per player, so we were pretty strategic trying to pick which drive we wanted to use, as we had one bomber (the scratch golfer) on the team.

Friday Bacon Boyz with warm & humid morning.  Again struggling to hit “clean” shots.  Hit a couple decent drives but that’s about it. I cannot feel my left hand on the club.
Finally got a new Orthopedic Dr appt Tuesday  to look at my hand.  I’m thinking it’s Carpal Tunnel but don’t want to self diagnose.  Doc new to area so no history on this guy.

How'd you like Wine Valley?  It's certainly easy to 3-putt those greens!!!

It's 45 minutes from my house; if it were a little closer, I would be a member.  The pro Chris Isaacson used to be my neighbor.

I have played it a few time but before but it wasn't bad and was in good shape. Still will never be a fan of using dirt for bunkers though.

Got out to my home track Osprey Point yesterday (70.1/123 6390 yds from the golds). It was HOT....94 degrees with no breeze. Posted an 45/43 and that was with 7 penalties. Started the first 7 holes on fire, no penalties and was +5 through 7. Then started getting penalty trouble on hole 8 and had 4 straight holes with penalty stokes (2 on 9 alone). Only 2 of the penalties were from errant shots out of the tee box. The other 5 were from shots that I pured and felt great, just long into the sawgrass brush that usually protects the the greens. So overall this was really one of my best ball striking days (and score) in a really long time.

Based on the the 2021 MGS ball test, decided to switch up from my gamer Bridgestone Tour B X and give the Chromesoft X LS a tryout. I've been having trouble holding greens with the Tour B X. I really liked the Chromesoft X LS. Not much difference off the tee, but definitely more responsive for me with irons and especially wedges. I held a few more greens and was able to get more spin and check up with my wedges and actually had a couple shots from 100-110yds out that backed up for me. Wasn't able to do that with the Tour B X. Definitely helped my best putting day ever with 32 putts (5 one putts) for the day. Might also have to look at the regular Chromesoft X vs X LS just to see how it feels, but I'm convinced to switch away from the Tour B X (or maybe even give the B XS a shot based on the data).

Next round next week Wednesday with a business customer. Playing Palm Beach National which is 72.3/131. Pretty open fairways but a decent amount of water and bunker protected greens. Should be easier to recover and not have to take penalties compared to my home track. Hoping to again break 90.

... Struggled on the front 9 to sync things up. Again. Silly bogie on #8 after 7 pars that all took more work than they should have. Things clicked on #9 a 497yd par 5 where I hit a big drive and a 4 iron on for an eagle attempt that I just missed but tap in birdie to get back to even. #10 had a sucker pin so I hit to the middle and made par. Then I birdied the par 3 #11th and eagled the par 5 #12th. 3 under for 2 holes really jump started my back 9. Solid pars through 16, although a few out of sync swings crept in and then I birdied #17. So I played the par 5's in 4 under and I was very happy about that.

... On 18 I hit that push from the body moving too quickly and had to punch out of the trees, hit an approach to 15 feet and ended with a bogie. I was very pleased following a 66 with a 69 as 2 consecutive rounds in the 60's has been very rare for me. Hope to keep it going today.

Played 18 this morning with the intent on giving two types of the Vision balls a initial try, to hit the Max LS driver, and the Epic Speed 4w for the first time, so I didn’t keep score due to hitting multiple shots. Driver was really nice, I was able to discern some differences between the two balls, and I hit one good shot with the 4w, the other two were user error. Made a small change to my stance with my irons and started to see some great results, and even the sound was that one where you know it’s been pured. On 17, par 3, it was 174 into a 1/2 club wind that was quartering from the left. 7 iron is my 180 club so I hit it. Absolutely pured and the ball flew the green! Smoked! Ooooooo if I can just get this thing grooved!!!! @chisagit was one where everything just synched-up between body/arms/rotation. So fun.

An average day of putting and driving, but poor approaches and poor around the greens led to a disappointing 86.  My wedge just felt like a foreign entity in my hands and I really stunk it up.  Even my playing partners were shaking their heads at my abnormally pitiful display of wedge play.  It's particularly disheartening since the total score was 10 strokes higher than my previous round Wednesday.  Again no birdies, but I did manage to fumble my way to 4 double bogeys, which were contributed to by a 3 putt, 4 times that my chip failed to find the green, and 2 sand shots that failed to get out of the sand (to be fair, bees were swarming around me on one trap and I was more worried about them than the ball (should have taken relief, but I didn't), but there was no excuse on the 2nd trap that gave me trouble).

Played a tournament today and while I wasn't in the money, I did break 80 for the first time in a tournament firing a 79. 

Overall it was a great day, the weather was perfect and the course was set up firm and fast how I like it. I broke 80 without my A game as well, so that was also a big confidence booster. I striped drives and chipped beautifully as is my usual strength. Putter was not great, but not terrible (34), and irons were off, only 6 GIR.

Also the two guys I played with finished tied for dead last. So I'm equally happy that I was able to block out what was going on around me and just play my shots. Even when I hit a bad one I stayed in it. Today didn't feel like such a grind either as we were done in just over 4 hours. Best I've felt after a tourney round in a long time.

A scramble tournament

I’m usually an anchor but today I hit third. Our anchor guy is a conservative 10 but he hits the ball a MILE. Only issue is, he doesn’t always know where it’s going. 

We agreed that the first two guys can put one in play, if not, I’ll play safe and if there was one in play, we both can go bananas. 

It worked on some holes and the great news was he won a dozen ProV1’s for longest drive. 340 yards was good enough. 

We shot -9. Finished third.

Winners came in at -14.  

It felt fantastic to get back out and play a scramble event.

Had sand in bunkers last time I played it, but I suspect it's difficult to keep sand  in them with all the wind.  Our muni adds sand every year... except last year during COVID.

Got yippy with my putting stroke 3 putted 5 times.   Yikes!  Emergency switch to another putter did not cure it   however holding the putter differently so only right hand on the handle on the putter seems to get me on track again

Played a two-ball, nine-hole scramble this morning to evaluate the Maxfli Tour and Tour X head-to-head. Shot -3 with four birdies and a bogey. Putted well and very happy to have had choices between both balls throughout the round. There were only a few shots where one ball was significantly better than the other.

Focused on balance in my setup today and felt better than I have in a few weeks. I noticed I had been getting too much into my toes at setup the last few times out.
