The Draw Fade

Shankster

Recommended Posts

Ok. This one is weird. Has anyone ever hit a draw fade or a fade draw? Haha. It might be my eyes playing tricks on me, but there was not much wind yesterday, and it looked like the ball would start out on my fade line then come back to the left mid flight. Weirdest dang' thing I've ever seen.

Yes, I do know that this is impossible. I think.

Knuckle balls will do this. We're you hitting out of the rough?

Yes, but then I realized I sat on the remote that controlled the ball ;) a ball with worn dimples can cause this as others have said...

Haha. I've never seen it with fresh new ones before. If I could only produce that shot on number 11 with a driver.

Could be a defective ball where the core isn't quite centered. Hard to believe it would happen in this day and age. Or maybe a spot of mud on the ball? I'm leaning towards alien telekinesis control of the ball ;)

I have actually hit this shot several times but only with my 3 wood and only when I keep it low (line drive). Also I play with a soft feel ball so that might have something to do with it.

Whatever it was I never saw it before. It started out left and was working back right then decided to take off left again.

This makes perfect sense- something weird is going on. Gravity has stopped working properly for me as well! It works from tee to the fringe and I'll usually see the ball find pre-existing divots, sand traps and/or the water... but then once I reach the green gravity fails and that stupid ball won't go in the hole!

I have seen it quite a few times with the old balata balls and like some said with worn out range balls. LOL saw it a couple of times today when we were playing vintage golf with balata balls. Combination of the balls and wind. Had 2 old Titleist balata balls go out of round on the front side. Played the back with one Maxfli HT-100 balata and last time I looked it was still round. Now seriously I may go and get it out of the bag in the next few minutes and it will be egg shaped or have a knot on it. Part of this I blame on age of the balls. But heck it was kicks and giggles hitting zipper wedges with balata balls

Absent randomly buffeting gusts of wind, crisp strikes off short grass with fresh modern golf balls cannot produce the trending shot you are suggesting. So I suppose I'll go with the aforementioned but summarily dismissed "eyes playing tricks on you".

But I can't personally say I have ever experienced a random perspective error that led me to believe I was suddenly capable of hitting consistently "s" curving golf shots seemingly out of no where on a calm day. Has the veil governing the laws of physics parted for an entire afternoon for anyone else here; or is Alan the only human capable of defying natural law via his unnaturally adroit golfing abilities?

I think it is just an illusion - you see it a lot on TV too.  In reality, it's just the drag reducing the spin and speed of the ball, which seems to alter the path of the ball.  The thickness of the air and wind direction can also accentuate this
