Rust on clubface

My Wishon 929 HS 4w has developed some rust on the face. I'm a little disappointed but it's not a huge deal by any means. I can't recall ever having a metal-wood rust. Irons yes - woods no. I'm not sending it back or anything like that as I've been playing this club for perhaps 4 years now. It's a very reliable club in all ways and I play it well.

Question - is there a simple way to remove the rust without using any type of sanding or power tools? Some sort of chemical treatment? I certainly don't want to damage the painted surfaces on the crown/body. I welcome suggestions.

Bummer Plaid. I’ve never seen that on a fairway wood either. Usually the face is stainless steel, which can get little rust marks but it usually takes 30 years of neglect.

If it were me, I’d remove it the same way I get rid of light rust on steel shafts. I used #0000 steel wool, the finest they have at your local hardware store. Put a little 3-in-1 oil on the face and give it a light scrub. The rust should come right off and since the steel wool is so fine it won’t mark or scratch the face.

Like you said, don’t touch the painted areas as the steel wool will scratch that, but on the face only you’ll be fine.

Sure thing. It might leave very, very fine marks on the face so make sure you rub all the same direction that way they will be imperceptible. I’d go back and forth across the face with the direction of the scoring lines, not up and down. Should work no problem.
