Toilet paper, then gas, now...golf balls?

What preparations are you making for the Great Golf Ball Shortage of 2022?

Obviously, we have the potential problem of the news of a shortage creating the shortage. But there's no shortage for the person who stocks up first, right?

I won 12 dozen OnCore VeroX1 a couple months ago so I should be good to go for a while if my Snell's ever run out. I wonder if there would seriously be a shortage to the point of toilet paper, gas, and ammo? Crazy to think about.

The difference: used golf balls get used again. Toilet paper, gas, and ammo don't work so well second hand.

I'm lucky enough to have a friend who lives near a very nice (high priced!) private course where the course would let him walk his dogs at night.

Each year he lets me know he has more golf balls and I can come over and pick them up.

I used to get all sorts but let him know I've switched to PV1, PV1x and MTB Black, MTBx. 

Long story short I got a box of 10 dozen pro v1 and pro v1x in nearly new condition last week.

I guess rich guys don't bother looking for their lost balls!

A case can be made for ammo being reused in a way, but count me out on reused gas and toilet paper haha.

At the start of the season I purchased some Taylormade PIX TP5 Practice balls and they performed well, no notable lost in distance at a fraction of the cost of new balls.  Plus I don't have to mark my ball because it says practice on it.

If you think play is slow now, just wait until everyone is tromping through the woods and weeds looking for theirs and others errant shots.  Golf ball shortage... who'd a thunk it?

I did my part as well. I got a few boxes of the vice pro plus. You guys really got me sweating this one out especially since I was a few months late to the push cart party last year and could find one for months!

I'm a bit skeptical of this, given the volume of balls both manufactured as well as sitting on shelves right now (or in warehouses). Impact on Q2 2022 is still a year out and a lot can change between now and then. We shall see.

No joke, I find once hit Pro V1's all the time on my course and it's private. Now my son works there mowing the rough and rolling the greens. He brings home balls almost every day. Then I sort the good ones out.

One of my buddies lives on one of the nicer public courses around, his house is about 200 yards off the tee box on the right hand side so a lot of sliced tee shots end up in his yard...he has 2 - 55 gallon Rubbermaid trash cans full of  all kinds of balls in his garage plus 3 - 5 gallon buckets of Pro V’s

I ordered 2 dozen Snell MTB Blacks when they announced rationing, to add to the 2 dozen I had in the closet. Today they’re not available at all in white. Hopefully they’ll be available again when I run low. My wife gave me a dozen Pro V1’s for my birthday, so that’ll hold me a little longer too.

Retirement??? Sounds like you're about to have a family take over of that golf course...pretty soon you'll be working in the pro shop

Well, if we keep talking about it you can expect it to happen sooner than Q2 of 2022.  I play Snell, and Dean has sent out videos about how he's had to ration sales...so it's already happening on some level.

My wife is the book keeper/ payroll and such. My son mows and is one of their life guards, my daughter does some cleaning, filing and waitressing. I'm the only one that just plays golf (as it should be)!  Kidding aside it is nice to be able to have the kids get work experience until they are done with school and find their path in life.

You got that right!  I'm ready to send my kids off to work, but the state might frown upon that at 9 & 14...ok may be not the 14 yr old.  I remember you talking about your wife working there in a different thread yesterday, that's why I was giving you a hard time...just messing around.  Hit 'em straight!

I love Snell and everyone over there, but the simple reality is they're not quite on the same level as Titleist, Bridgestone, etc. when it comes to volume and manufacturing (at least not yet!). We've all seen impacts on availability of items across so many industries (my company is seeing lead times of 30-40 weeks on things that used to be 5-10 weeks) but like I said above, we shall see what happens in the long run.

Good point on Snell not being on the same level, manufacturing wise, as the big brands.  I work in the mechanical & plumbing industry and we are getting long lead times on equipment as well...and prices are going up on everything...weekly.  I believe this all has to do with so many job openings and no one going back to work, but that's just my opinion.

At least golf ball prices aren't escalating (yet) the way lumber prices are.

My son came home from work today (rough mowing at the course) Had 20 balls with him. Bunch of Pro V1's. I don't think I'll be running out to buy balls if he keeps this up.

Me too. Not golf related, but Knob Creek Bourbon pulled the same shortage stunt a few years back. Turns out there was no shortage... just a way to jack the price for a while.
