But not full credit since that good juju left me on Sunday (..or maybe possibly could've might've been I was starting to run outta gas in the old legs and back...? ..maybe...)

 

Anyway, so Saturday morning round - ShotScope has me with 91 but I haven't fully edited the round yet, and have to add at least one or two strokes in (one penalty drop and maybe one more 3 putt).

I'm pretty happy with that!! -- my home course White tees are 68.1/127 at 5,835 yds vs Mid South's Whites are 70.0/132 at 6,170 yds.

In the driver review thread I mentioned my tee shot score card notes = 10 / 14  marks .. which doesn't mean middle fairway bombs but for me "out there" *and* playable .. so an approx 71% success rate

 

Saturday afternoon my watch ran out of battery on 14 or 15 but @Hoyoymac said I had a 107 (ugh lotta 3 putts and two x THREE chips off that expletive deleted Bermuda in collection areas). Was really great riding with @JohnSmalls tho!!!

Shots of the round were my second and third on a long Par 4 dogleg left - thinned the tee shot but it rolled towards the dogleg tho I was still blocked out by a big ole southern pine .. grabbed the 5W, wound up and sent it .. high arcing draw down the dogleg towards the green! .. leaving me a PW in which I landed about 8-10 feet right of the flag! And yes I tensed up on the fairly straight putt and rolled the ball like 6 feet past the hole...

 

Sunday morning - beautiful day on a beautiful course with some of the beautiful people of MGS! Just some poor, weak golfing on my part...

Although... Can claim long drive on one hole - other three players all hit really nice, really solid tee shots way down the right side; I get up there and top/thin the ball but hey at least it rolled into the middle of the fairway...

As we drive along, tho, we're not seeing my ball .. keep looking left to see if it rolled off the sloped fairway into the mounds or further left into trouble .. nothing...

Get closer to the green and @Siamese Moose calls out, "you're over there!" pointing in front of us .. walk up and see the ball past the "Carts " sign .. and maybe, what, 4 to 6 inches ahead of where the other guys ended up - thank you firm and dry fairways, and the X's AI ball speed face, for all that extra rollout!! (..yes sometimes it's better to be lucky than good )

.. followed an ok enough wedge to the front fringe, pin was front-right on a downslope, followed by a really good putt thru the fringe stopping just a few inches from the hole .. gimme for a par!

 

Great weekend all around and sorry rest of the gang I had to run out at the end. Hope to play better and have even more fun at next year's challenge!!

OK... back in the saddle .. sorta .. at the practice range this afternoon...

Well gotta tell everyone that all that bad golf down there is making for better golf for me up here; ie. the challenge of playing those courses - and the putting! - is making it seem, umm, easier to putt closer to the hole on the practice green and my prelim warmup on the range is making it seem, uhh, easier to hit the ball closer to my targets..!

Lessons learned that I can only hope sink into this old thick skull!!

I would hear all about different types of grass and grain and all that but it really didn't sink in until I played in FL for the first time earlier this year and the ball rolled *completely* different than any of my home courses. Welcome home Chuck!

pine south and pine needles for your viewing pleasure

Okay, I'm not sure where else to put this and have not done so until now for concerns that the one who has made this post necessary had somehow found a way to stow aboard the WNY bound EasyPutter road cruiser.  Why would he do that?  I don't know, why would he take his (T)Less Driver and ship it to me UPS?  I don't know, I give him plenty of pulls and slices here in the Forum  but he did and it arrived before the Pinehurst Open weekend.

Some of the few, the chosen, the adventurous members of the MGS Forum who were on the courses in Southern Pines NC had a chance to see me give Mr (T)Less a first few trial hits that seemed to be designed especially to get @Yellow Ball where he likes to go off into the woods or for a plunge into the watery depths.  And yes I did completely empty the vehicle upon arriving at home and apart from many of his cousins huddled in their cozy cooler getting ready for a links play tournament on July 7th where no doubt they are planning a break for the freedom of the fescue (I actually found that kind of graffiti in the cooler spelled about 4 different ways though shhhh don't tip off your spare balls, who knows how they communicate, right?) there were no signs of our esteemed Forum colleague.

This note, it seems legit so I will take it as a magnanimous gesture from another Forum member who understands that a product tested that is not going to be kept should be passed along to another Forum member to test.  And test I have already started.

Today's round at Elma Meadows GC in Elma, NY (my regular course for 2023) found my First Strike Rattlesnake 460cc driver never leaving the bag but instead (T)Less took all the first hits for all drives on the par-4 and par-5 holes.  Various tee placements were tried fore and aft of center line and raised and lowered to determine what resulted in less vertical and more horizontal flight.  I know it is called (T)Less  but to make up for the "Test" that Yellow Ball did, this "baby" as he calls it needs to be put through its paces and it spanked a whole bunch of times but not a single ball went far off fairway and none were lost.    Ha ha YB!!!  

So the (T)Less is taking over the Driver duty, not yet going farther than the Rattlesnake has but being able to find the fairway most of the time or first cut rough has me feeling uneasy that maybe YB is not always sarcastic and, quite frankly, that scares me so much more than the drill sergeants did in basic training  how can I tell when it is sarcasm?

That's it for the first day of testing.  I hope.

I'm glad to see @Yellow Ball wasn't just hiding in your car in the backseat ready to hit you with a case of the shanks.

So to show once again how awesome MGS members and in particular this group is.   I just received a WAY TOO Generous Gift card to literally our favorite seafood restaurant from the guys on the trip.  This was not necessary but extremely appreciated, and trust me will be put to good use probably at least a couple times!!

Based on the response on 18:at Talamore, it seems like I became the reason for poor scores/play.   I played with @Tom the Golf Nut during the first round and he struggled, I okayed with @Jwc5149during the second round and he struggled, I recall @EasyPuttersaying he played better after our round on Saturday.   This is a cautionary tale, during an outing don’t get paired with me because someone will play poorly.  @cksurfdudedid ht the driver well when I walked up behind him on the Range Friday, during our round Saturday, and even on Sunday (Even though we were all tired on Sunday after 36 on Saturday)….I am taking full credit for the good tee shots

Still early days, but in the next week or two we will look to put something out to gather interest on a larger trip which would be happening in 2025.

I've got a few photos to share but everytime I upload from my phone and try to post them, they auto-rotate to being upside down. I guess even my phone thinks I am backwards for being a lefty.  I'll get them up when I can get this glitch solved.

Edit:  Problem persists even from my PC and two different browsers.

Try to rotate them on your PC and then save them again in the normal position.

So when this happens to me, I take a screenshot of the photo on my phone and upload that one.  I think I've figured out that this issue has to do with the multi-lens cameras on phones.  Certain combinations end up reading upside down.  Of course, I'm NOT an engineer, so don't ask me how to fix the software.
